You know those nasty little uphill bits when you didn't go fast enough to reach the lift queue? Two kind sons come in very handy as human huskies to tow you along. Back from Arc 200 today, huge amounts of snow, too much for me some days but the menfolk had a great time.

Great pic, my 2 daughters aren't old enough to pull me along yet, might have to start getting them trained up while they r still young tho :0)
Off next Sunday, can't wait, snow forecast really good for this week, then blue skies. & sunshine for when we arrive,
Sorted all the ski gear out today, just need to pack few other "normal " clothes & charge up kindles, iPods etc etc
Sooo excited now, can't stop watching the webcams :0)

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/01/2016 15:05

I can happily report that conditions in Portes du Soleil are great! The snow keeps coming and the avalanche risk is 3 but there's plenty of fun to be had, even when the clouds come in.

lovetoskimum · 19/01/2016 15:33

Great pic Tricky, 5 weeks to go for me. God on count down, looking at 2017 already :)

hubby just had last week in Alpe d'huez, snowed so so muc, great lads hol !! Not sure about him year though !!

Keep them coming all, happy skiing :)

I've already booked 2017 Grin my DH has suggested I'm slightly fixated with skiing.

lovetoskimum · 19/01/2016 16:28

Don't, lol, me too slightly obsessed !! :)

constantly on here when should be working !! :)

On Les Arcs web cams as we type !!

OP posts:
dontcallmethatyoucunt · 19/01/2016 16:45

same here Blush, but I work for myself...... now I've said that I realise if I spent more time working I could afford to go skiing more often Grin.

I have avoided this seasons webcams as last year once I'd started, I couldn't stop!

I love Les Arc though, some great ski runs and, almost as good, fast lifts. Myself and a friend try and work out the optimum ski v lift ratios. Fastest lifts v drop. Les Arc comes out well.

I'm going with girlfriends at the beginning of March and can't wait. Off to Coumayeur, if you have any insider knowledge, let me know.

drspouse · 22/01/2016 14:01

I may have just rung up to find out what's available in Les Gets for the best week for us in Jan 2017.
As there are some other weeks now sold out I don't feel quite so bananas!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/01/2016 21:26

Just got home.

We may be planning to book next year pretty soon too! Of you know what you want why not just get it sorted?!

drspouse · 24/01/2016 11:42

I think part of me is a bit doubtful because who knows what 2017 will bring, as we've only just started 2016. However, we are pretty sure it's going to bring Reception for DS and that it isn't going to bring a house move or a job move for me, at least, and the dates we want (and airport) will fit with all of those, it doesn't in fact matter if for example DH moves jobs as long as we don't move house.

no73 · 24/01/2016 15:51

Just come back form Club Med in Alp d'huez and had a lovely time although marred by a stinking cold and nearly lost my voice. I was also nowhere near fit enough to ski so must rectify that by next year.

My 6 DS had an amazing time and loved the Mini Med club so much he never ate an evening meal with us it was so nice as a single parent to have a break Grin

Provencalroseparadox · 24/01/2016 20:23

I booked this year's trip while I was still there last year!

Tigresswoods · 24/01/2016 22:15

I'm just booking our ski passes from Val Thorens in Feb half term. Am I reading it right? 5 year olds get a free pass?

lovetoskimum · 25/01/2016 15:52

Proven, lol that's what I am like, I said to hubby last night I bet we book 2017 when we are in Les Arcs in March 16 !!

Much - glad you had a good time, great conditions just hope it stays like it :)

Tigress - we were in Les Arcs last year and our daughter got free pass as was free for under 6 - unfortunately we have to buy for her this year !! Make the most of it :)

On the hunt for a new pair of ski trousers, have lost quite a bit of weight, my regular trousers are so big :) happy but could have done with out the cost !! Need plain black, any one got any suggestions ?? Mountain warehouse - none left, sports direct, sold out, looks like it's expense at Snow and Rock !! :)

Booked!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 25/01/2016 19:25

Tog24 do decent black salopettes

Tigresswoods · 25/01/2016 22:43

Lovetoskimum do you have Trespass near you? I was looking online & had no joy. Went in the actual shop & got lovely new black trousers for £60!

lovetoskimum · 26/01/2016 11:15

Much, tried tog24 this morning on way to work, no size 10 left, :(

Tigress, did not think about trespass, going to have to spend thursday this week hunting a pair down, we have a local ski shop that is closing after 34 years, just called them and they have protest ones in, need to sneak out of work that's all :)

Thanks for posting all, will update progress !!

4 weeks friday and counting :)

OP posts:
Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/01/2016 15:53

Tog will post them to you for free if they don't have your size in store. I got mine that way, tried them on in a different colour to check the fit then paid for them and they posted them straight to me.

Worth keeping in mind if you can't sneak out from work!

lovetoskimum · 26/01/2016 16:52

Much, thanks for that info, I did like the style of them, spending Thursday in Brighton armed with money and will not go home until I have them !!

Will try Tog first, thanks for that, i will get a new pair :)

Re courmayeur- went there for weekend last year. Skiing was great Thursday and Friday then on Friday night all the Milan weekenders turned up. Suddenly felt very underdressed! On Saturday we got a bus to la Thuile which was fabulously empty as harder to get to from motorway. Courmayeur was really busy on Sunday so I was glad we'd gone elsewhere on the Saturday. Enjoy.
Anyone got any Chamonix tips?

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 26/01/2016 20:46

Thanks for the tip citykat. I'll have a look at Thuile.

I went to Chamonix last year! We managed to find a great restaurant at La Tour at the bottom of the Vallorcine bubble. You need to walk toward the railway line (take a left out of the bubble following the line of shops, then turn back on yourself (like doing a u turn behind the buildings on the left). Totally fab food, great price, great location. Looks like a ghost town but worth a look.

There is also a great pizza place at Argentiere at the bottom of the Plan Roujon lift. Good value for the slopes and fab pizza and beer.

I think the buses are a hassle and some of the gradings of slopes are very harsh (just a red? is that really a blue?!?!). Not a great place for beginners I don't think.

One tip that I wish I'd known was DO NOT get caught in the lift queue at Flegere. If you can't ski the black, head back to brevent. It took over an hour to load and was so slow. It really killed my legs at the end of the day and was awful.

We had a great long weekend there though, great off piste if you like that.

citykat · 26/01/2016 23:14

Thank you. Especially for the lift tip. Am a bit worried that my legs won't be up to Chamonix - was v happy in Courmayeur!!!

Tigresswoods · 27/01/2016 13:02

Bloody snow chains. I hired a car at Lyon so we can drive to the Alps. I'd completely forgotten about the need for SCs. Anyway much investigation & calling of 0843 numbers & ive cancelled my Europcar/easy jet booking & gone with Avis who DO allow you to book chains. We leave in a couple of weeks!

beachhead · 28/01/2016 19:06

Hi ski bloggers

I'm packing half term ski trip France - it's a family do with my 2 boys.

What do they need? what to pack? Apart from obvious ski jackets Tec, I was thinking t_shirts, and few fleece tops I've never bothered with thermals, but thinking perhaps boys may need them. But I don't plan skiing in sub zero, blizzard conditions.

So please so many of you sound experienced , I would welcome tips any advice
