Ok so you know we asked you about biscuits and Austin Reed...

... well here's why. Many many Mumsnet moons ago a small thread sat on a leaf was started. That thread was titled: "If oyu name si Linda you are an admin perosn at a hospital" and, once folks had deciphered it, it went on to blossom into a Mumsnet classic.

Anyway, as we are wont to do here at MNHQ, we pounced on your ingenuity, wit and brilliance and thought (whilst stroking our beards) how can we plagiarise this idea? And lo after many months locked in the shed with nothing more than a Greggs' sausage roll and a froot shoot for company, Tech has transformed your our scheme into (we hope you'll agree) a corruscating and beautiful reality.

For no longer will you have sweat over the relative merits of Thomasina vs Sequoia for your baby girl - now you can just ask the wisdom of Mumsnet (at least you will be able to once we've all added our two pennies worth to it).

And so, without further ado, let us unveil the Mumsnet Baby Name Finder. Whether it's a Precious First Born or a soon to be Neglected Subsequent Child you're looking to name, you'll find the perfect moniker right here.

Please have a play and let your prejudices run riot!

(ps please bear in mind it's meant to be light-hearted - we don't really think any of offspring will grow up to be Hedge Fund Managers )

How did you know my children's names, HelenMumsnet?

HelenMumsnet · 21/07/2009 20:28

Oh, we know EVERYTHING about you all

shonaspurtle · 21/07/2009 20:30

Yeeees. At least a warning that your talk name will be up there. Not the end of the world that I've outed myself but, y'know...

aristocat · 21/07/2009 20:33

GeraldineMumsnet · 21/07/2009 20:33

ingles2 · 21/07/2009 20:38

t'is fab though

PotterVsCullen · 21/07/2009 20:40

How do I add names to "My Shortlist"?

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2009 20:47

this is very funny

shonaspurtle · 21/07/2009 20:50

I tried to add a new name but it keeps bringing me back to the search box. The name's not on yet so there's nothing to find.

Is this to stop people adding Spudulika as a name and similar?

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 21/07/2009 21:18

Oh come on. Lupusina is a bona fide baby name and you know it. BoF even wanted to call her imaginary baby it a coupla days ago.

Nice idea, looking forward to it working!

snice · 21/07/2009 21:22

Am I the only person who is a bit about this?

So potentially, someone could log on and discover that their DC has "the most hated name" on Mumsnet? Nice

HelenMumsnet · 21/07/2009 21:27

Point taken, snice, but we hope everyone will take it for what it is: a bit of fun.

Sorry to those who can't add a name - I've just had a bit of a play and sometimes it lets you add a name and sometimes it doesn't. Goodness knows why. Will ask someone Techy in the morning.

snice · 21/07/2009 21:29

But not much fun if its your child - I think this is one feature that is un-necessarily nasty

PussinJimmyChoos · 21/07/2009 21:32

Hah!!!

My DS's name isn't even on there!

[grins]

thumbwitch · 21/07/2009 22:02

can't you make it so we can add other career choices? I don't like any of those ones.

it's a leetle bit strange...

whomovedmychocolate · 21/07/2009 22:23

Have you got nothing better to do Justine ?

It's lovely

hf128219 · 21/07/2009 22:34

No need for people to lose their sense of humour. Like anything on MN what is great to one is awful to the next.

This not only applies to names but choice of car, holiday, potted plant, brand of tea etc etc.

JustineMumsnet · 21/07/2009 22:48

Snice - think you've made a good point actually - "hated" is a bit mean isn't it? How about "unloved"? I think is more what we meant...

We'll see if we can sort the anonymity option too - though think it may be less of an issue.

(No nothing better WMMC )

whomovedmychocolate · 21/07/2009 22:53

Change it to 'most exclusive' name for hated I think.

I can see what you are up to Justine btw

WriggleJiggle · 21/07/2009 23:18

The shops bit needs to include 'organic farmer's market'
and the clothing section 'fair traded ethnic tie dyed dresses'
Biscuits - jaffa cakes
