unused nicknames

is there any way of getting a unused nickname?
I have always wanted to be twoshoes, but someone has it, but never uses it.
could there be a swap or a way we could give up the ones we don't uses?

I want to be just Eyeballs. Someone here was using it but they gave it up when I got a bit shirty asked nicely as I get abbreviated to Eyeballs, so I know they don't use it anymore.

Around the time we were raising money for mile for maude MN listed a load of unused and/or unwanted nicknames and you placed bids to win them.

Flame went for £5 (no-one else wanted it).

It meant people got the names they wanted, plus raised money for a good cause.

Flappy (apart from DON'T ever change yours, as Flappy is marvellous)- I think if you promise Justine, er, favours, she puts a word in with Tech. I noticed MonkeyTrousers trying it successfully last week.

I think it is only unused names that you can get back - if they have been posted with then it could cause all manner of problems.

Lissie - they wouldn't take names off active users

We did once run an auction of unused nicknames which worked pretty well - is there a call for this again? or any other ideas? Do post your thoughts here and we'll consult at MNHQ next week and come back to you.
