How many MN 'personas' have you ever had?

Norty · 03/05/2005 22:28

There's a another thread talking about how easily people can be deceptive on chat rooms, however most people seem to be saying "oh, but I think I'd spot someone fake", or "but I haven't the time/energy for multiple posts"

It got me wondering, "How many MN personas have people ever had".In other words, how many different MN nicknames have you EVER used?

My personal score is probably well towards 20 - over 5 years... some most regularly, some occasionally, and a few only once....

i voted for myself on 'who woul you like to meet thread' as NOT FLUM

DillyDally · 04/05/2005 12:54

cunning flum

FLUM · 04/05/2005 12:54

yeah I was so pleased when I saw it. it really made my day!

WideWebWitch · 04/05/2005 12:56

Soupy, I'm ed at 100 too! And can't believe people reply to their own questions, hilarious. I've only been here 3 odd years so count me out I'm not norty, plus the style just isn't mine.

zebraX · 04/05/2005 12:57

At least 7 besides variations of zebra... but you wouldn't recognise any of them but the zebra ones.

ScummyMummy · 04/05/2005 12:59

God this is turning into the "I'm not norty" thread.
(and I'm not, btw)

Come on norty- who are you? Clues needed. Can we play 20 questions to guess?
Q1 Have I met you?

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:00

You did cross my mind Scummy - for a nanosecond only.

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:00

Connie?

ScummyMummy · 04/05/2005 13:01

hahaha @connie. Please let norty be connie.

Cam · 04/05/2005 13:03

I don't want to guess in case I offend, but....WE WILL FIND OUT who you are (ooh, I've never raised my voice on m/net before, it's quite exciting isn't it)

Tissy · 04/05/2005 13:04

I'm not norty, though I wish I was clever enough. Anyway have only been "around" 3 years

Who's connie?

Marina · 04/05/2005 13:05

OMG, Connie. Maybe? Or maybe Kia has been stringing us all along all this time...

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:06

Justine?

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:06

Croppy?

Norty · 04/05/2005 13:06

Cam - it's nothing to do with not being confident about what I'm saying, nor do I think it's particularly controversial anyway?

But anyway, isn't the concept of 'someone we'd all recognise' interesting in it's own right? What would people recognise? A style of posting? A particular set of values? Shared experiences from other threads? Friendships formed both online, and perhaps in real life (as is increasingly the case on MN these days).

On occasion I have changed my name for posts because a handful of people on here know me and DH in real life and I wouldn't want them to know about our relationship problems, or other very personal issues. On one occasion I changed my name because I actually had some strong feelings about something someone I knew in RL was doing, and I wanted to express my perspective, but for the sake of day to day relationships it really wasn't worth rocking the boat. After all, in real life, we don't always say exactly what we think do we?

Anyway, who I am isn't particualrly exciting - I started on Mumsnet as MotherofOne, but later changed my name when I had DS2.I regularly use 2-3 different names now.
I can find some of my earliest posts in 2001, so this is definitely my 5th year.
I remember the early days with Batters/ Tinker/Marina/ SOupdragon etc...

Can you old timers give us a bit of background to your guesses please? Makes lurking so difficult when you don't

could norty be one of the mumsnet team???

JoolsToo · 04/05/2005 13:12

Norty said she wasn't Joane23 of cat thread fame though - so who is she?

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:12

Well, I mentioned Justine and have just noticed that she's online now......

Cam · 04/05/2005 13:12

Norty, I was just teasing to see if you'd rise to the bait
No, I meant it was exciting me RAISING MY VOICE, well ok it wasn't that exciting

Enid · 04/05/2005 13:18

JustineMumsnet · 04/05/2005 13:20

What? eh? You think we have time for nicknames? Seriously though we've been thinking about limiting the number of nickname changes allowed to say 3? With the aim of limiting the shenanigans. What do you think of that idea?

JoolsToo · 04/05/2005 13:21

BLOODY BRILLIANT - how about NO* names?

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!
