How many MN 'personas' have you ever had?

Norty · 03/05/2005 22:28

There's a another thread talking about how easily people can be deceptive on chat rooms, however most people seem to be saying "oh, but I think I'd spot someone fake", or "but I haven't the time/energy for multiple posts"

It got me wondering, "How many MN personas have people ever had".In other words, how many different MN nicknames have you EVER used?

My personal score is probably well towards 20 - over 5 years... some most regularly, some occasionally, and a few only once....

yes no names - but allow us to change at Christmas!

it'd stop a lot of argy bargey

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 13:22

Yes yes yes (to Justine)

popsycal · 04/05/2005 13:22

good idea....

JustineMumsnet · 04/05/2005 13:23

Think people ought to be allowed another private persona for very personal/embarrassing stuff - don't you?

popsycal · 04/05/2005 13:24

sounds like a good idea to me

Enid · 04/05/2005 13:25

oh I need to change my name for embarrassing stuff and if I only have one then people might work out that its me! And as a good few mumsnetters know me in RL that would be, er, embarrassing.

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 13:26

Don't see why anyone should need more than two...

NomDePlume · 04/05/2005 13:27

Probably around 10 if you include one off silly names relevant to a particular thread (not for trolling purposes, mind). I've had 4 long-term name changes over the 2 years I've been an active MNer.

Enid · 04/05/2005 13:29

spose so (no more than 2) but makes it easier to work out who someone is even though they only use that particular name for thrush/affairs/sex toys/gerbils etc

JoolsToo · 04/05/2005 13:30

well 2 then - but if someones going to use a non de plume just to be offensive whoever is on the receiving end should have a right to know who it is

JoolsToo · 04/05/2005 13:31

half the people on here reckon 'I know who it is' anyway!

Cam · 04/05/2005 13:31

So it was you Enid, with the sex toys and gerbils

Marina · 04/05/2005 13:34

Three is good for Moderators who also like to ring the changes at Christmas - top idea Justine!
My view is that Norty isn't Croppy...much missed though Croppy is. It would be nice if Norty was any of the Mners mentioned already. Or Sml...or Ginette...

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 13:37
Janh · 04/05/2005 13:38

She said who she is, Marina - used to be Motherofone!

Enid · 04/05/2005 13:40

lol

shhh...go away and play on your posh swing

Janh · 04/05/2005 13:40

How would everybody feel if mumsnet reserved the right to "out" anybody who changed their name purely in order to post something personal/spiteful/otherwise nasty?

Enid · 04/05/2005 13:41

well it would stop me!

WigWamBam · 04/05/2005 13:42

I'd support that, JanH.

Tinker · 04/05/2005 13:43

Oooo Jan, now that would be norty Woudl liek it for really nasty stuff. Coudl we have an "Out or Not" poll each time it happens?

FLUM · 04/05/2005 13:44

I thought norty was Soupdragon. No?

Janh · 04/05/2005 13:44

Oh yes, Tink, there would have to be a popular vote!

Janh · 04/05/2005 13:45

Or an unpopular vote?

JoolsToo · 04/05/2005 13:47

I'll vote for your policy Jan

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 13:48

I would definitely vote for max 3 namechanges and a MN big stick
