Will there be a thread to discuss nominations, or will it all be secret through email?

It must be a hard task doing the judging.
It must be bloody harder than the Christmas appeal, so I dont envy you this task. A whole holiday stands to gain for one lucky winner, wow....

But, what criteria do you use to judge? If I were to put myself somebody forward, so to speak....

What I really would like to ask is:

???? why? What the fuck are you thinking?

Is it just mums or is it parent of the year?

Will it be number of nominations or best story?

Or will you pick a name out of a hat

hereidrawtheline · 17/04/2009 11:48

I'm with QS here unless I win its a bloody terrible idea

Please allow the above statement to count as my nomination!

littlelamb · 17/04/2009 11:48

Indeed.
Can I start my sob story now and nominate myself??
My dc have never been on holiday. Ever. I'm single, poor yadda yadda yadda.....

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 11:50

I wonder if the sob stories will be published....

Tortington · 17/04/2009 11:50

i was thinking the same thing last night.

Though, i am sure that MN towers know what they are doing

i wanted to ask, can i nominate somone who isn't a mumsnetter?

and if i gave you all the heart wrenching stuff she has been through - how confidential would it be?

then again, its not my place to go telling a bunch of journos a story fit for hallmark tv.

which is another issue in itself.

twinsetandpearls · 17/04/2009 11:51

"Will there be a thread to discuss nominations, or will it all be secret through email? "

And so moldiegate starts again.

beanieb · 17/04/2009 11:51

just what I thought Twinset

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 11:51

It can be a whole book out of it:

"The every day parenting heroes of Mumsnet"

Will mumsnet own the copyright to all the nominations, too??

OP posts:
littlelamb · 17/04/2009 11:53

Actually, I was thinking the same. Can we nominate non mumsnetters?

Tortington · 17/04/2009 11:53

i think i would be very annoyed if a good meaning friend nominated me and splurted out all my personal details.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 17/04/2009 11:54

oh - if winner is mner - will MNHQ add Mum(or Dad) of The Year to the end of their username?

HecateMumOfTheYear has a nice ring to it, I think...

Flamesparrow · 17/04/2009 11:55

Don't like it.

It all hinges on how well known posters are and how much of their lives they share.

Take Serenity - I love her to bits, she could be the best mum in the world or have gone through many many hardships, but I don't know because she never speaks about her family on threads I see at least. Many people use MN as an escape from the home rather than talking about it.

BecauseImWorthIt · 17/04/2009 11:56

Surely we should all be winners?

onlyjoking9329 · 17/04/2009 11:56

This will end in tears surely?

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 11:56

What are the legal issues involved when hundreds of people are writing in either about themselves, or other people they want to surprise who may know nothing about it?

I am sure all of us have a sobstory, and some of us may even dream about being on Jeremy Kyle, or some other tv show, or heck, even get a mention in "Bella" or "Best"! To some, selling out with their life story, is probably a good idea.

But, then you are not really judging on who is the best mum/mumsnetter/family of the year, but who is most keen to sell their story to the press...

Who owns the stories? Mumsnet? Can mumsnett "sell" them on?

OP posts:
Ledodgy · 17/04/2009 11:57

God it will be like those bonny baby competitions where people all get their mates to vote for them. They'll be an influx of one time poster names hunbunlovemachine123 and the like.

Pan · 17/04/2009 11:57

OH I see tears, tantrums, mutual recriminations, name-calling and ends to otherwise beautiful friendships. And that's just at MN Towers.

ComeOVeneer · 17/04/2009 11:57

What is the point of it? It is nothing more than a thinly disguised poularity contest. No good can come of it I'm sure!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 17/04/2009 11:57

It's a nice thought but a bad idea, imo.

Ledodgy · 17/04/2009 11:58

LedodgyMumoftheyear sounds the best imo because it's nice and ambiguous.

southeastastra · 17/04/2009 11:58

i think it sounds quite nice, not just for mnetters is it

Pan · 17/04/2009 11:59

I mis-read that as 'muffoftheyear'. Must be just me.

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 12:00

It is a nice thought for the one person who wins.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 17/04/2009 12:00

I think the intention is good and I hope someone who is a good mum and needs a boost gets it.

Mamazon · 17/04/2009 12:01

well you see i think i have discussed quite a lot of my shite on Mn. but somehow i think it would be different if it was published in some dodgy hairdressers coffee table type mag.

I mean im not sure i want the entire geriatric population to know that i got beat up but have tried bum sex.
