Will there be a thread to discuss nominations, or will it all be secret through email?

It must be a hard task doing the judging.
It must be bloody harder than the Christmas appeal, so I dont envy you this task. A whole holiday stands to gain for one lucky winner, wow....

But, what criteria do you use to judge? If I were to put myself somebody forward, so to speak....

What I really would like to ask is:

???? why? What the fuck are you thinking?

This could get me slung out but I like to sail close to the wind

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/04/2009 14:00

har har at you lot spooking poor Justine

PS JUSTINE can you sort the glitch please - I so don't like new stylee MNing

Interesting thread

(did you spot my Shit Sandwich technique there, didya, didya?)

LoneStranger · 17/04/2009 14:01

Dont suppose the most meaningful submissions are likely to be 'witty' or 'absurd'. By the qualifying criteria that you have stated as intended, I suspect that the most 'deserving' are likely to be alineated from this.

I can think of at least hald a dozen situations that I know of through MN. Sorry, cant think how to capture the wit, absurdity or heroism of any of them. So, if its not funny, its not worthy? Totally get the 'spirit of MN' thing, but pitching it through a MumOfTheYear Award in that way sits awkardly, me thinks.

twinsetandpearls · 17/04/2009 14:01

how do you do that Hellebore?

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 17/04/2009 14:11

I thought this was a bad idea BEFORE Justine came on to explain further. You do realise some people won't be able to afford to go on your prize if dinner, drinks etc are not included. Also you are going to publish what is written, and maybe extrapolate for PR purposes?
This sounds worse and worse, and I'm not cynical.

Itsthawooluff · 17/04/2009 14:13

Are you all insane at MN HQ?

Isn't the Mummy Olympics hard enough already?

memoo · 17/04/2009 14:13

Well I think its a nice idea and I have voted for someone.

Not because they are hugely well known but because they genuinely stuck their neck out to help me and this is a nice way of showing that I appreciate what they did

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 15:44

"but because they genuinely stuck their neck out to help me and this is a nice way of showing that I appreciate what they did"

errr.....

See, Justine, this is what you are getting.

Somebodys reward for sticking up for somebody is to be nominated as mumsnet mum of the year. That is the true spirit of mumsnet.

Glad you just posted that QS. My face really DID look remarkly like the one you just posted - except mine was shaking simultaneously and thinking "SURELY this CANNOT be what was intended?" I do recognise Meemo's sentiment and intentions are well intended the set up of this 'competition' in its present form will undoubtedly attract similar submissions.

memoo · 17/04/2009 16:04

this person didn't stick up for me!

She did something in real life!! not just online

DisasterEggs · 17/04/2009 16:06

obviously this is dead easy. I am the best. end of.
pick me
pick me
pick me.

memoo · 17/04/2009 16:08

and QS don't make such rude remarks without knowing the facts!!!

I'm not some shallow idiot who gets all sentimental about a kind word on mumsnet,

Just somebody who appreciates the kind actions of others. What exactly is wrong with that?????

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/04/2009 16:12

memooo I don't think QS was being rude

memoo · 17/04/2009 16:28

I'm pregnant and hormonal (can you tell?)

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 16:29

... and herein lies the problem. (at least one of them) Nobody knows any "facts".

Calm down memoo. I can only go by what you post.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/04/2009 16:30

ooooh memoo congratulations

DesperateHousewifeToo · 17/04/2009 16:47

Hmm. Very interesting prize.

Tis a verrry posh hotel (spent my wedding night there and 1st anniversary - when heavily preg) so we managed to lower the tone of the place, lol.

Much posting on Style and Beauty would be required in order to decide on outfits and maybe also on Legal/Money matters to decide where to take out the loan to pay for the 'extras' that would not be included and the said clothes.

You might also need to hire a posh car so your own would not show you up (well, I would anyway).

Also fascinated that they are now selling themselves as 'family friendly'. Children under a certain age used to be banned. I guess it must be the credit crunch.

Apart from all that it would be a fab prize to win. It is a beautiful hotel and has great facilities.

(re: disabled access. Speaking from experience, it's not that easy to get around and I would double check that the spa area is actually accessible as when I was last there using the pool (admittedly many years ago, now), there were loads of steps from the changing rooms to the indoor pool which dh had great difficulty with.

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 17:35

So, a surprising choice as a family destination for?

OP posts:
LoneStranger · 17/04/2009 18:04

And another thing; many users of this site are not yet or are no longer parents. And where exactly do they fit into this award thingy? Please MNTowers, I know the closing date is looming, but I really have heard many more reasons against this than for it. Also, do you believe you have fully considered the will of the posters.(And by that, I dont mean the gobbiest on this subject - IE Me!) I have not seen a convincing post/argument in favour of this.

Ledodgy · 17/04/2009 18:09

It's blatantly not about 'Mum of the year' is it? It's a marketing tool for the hotel and MN. Cynical moi? Oh yes.

Tortington · 17/04/2009 18:14

ive entered.

i want a real bonifide plastic mumsnet crown ( has to have mumsnet on it somewhere)

i hope i am the only entry then i will win and i can raise my sceptre ( i'll get one from Claires Accessories) and demand that AIBU boards can only be used in an ironical way.

anyone found to be asking a question that they don't really know the anser to will be banned from the kingdom and made to wander the dark cold corridors of NetMums

FrazzledFairyFay · 17/04/2009 18:15

What worries me, is that this could end up with a troll being rewarded, for a story that isn't even true.

QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 19:40

Well, I hope you DO win, Custy, because you are a bona fide mumsnet mum, a straight talker, and with more dignity than the BabybabyHHHChristopherRoses around....

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadow · 17/04/2009 19:40

there was meant to be a after that.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 17/04/2009 21:20

Could someone enter me, I suspect a dirty weekend will do much more for dp than a month of counselling.
