but I would be grateful if you could tell me that you have at least given serious consideration to banning the posters who were harrassing her.

Thank you.

Says it all

controlfreakythe11pluscoach · 20/01/2009 22:23

this?

MrJustAbout · 20/01/2009 22:23

yeah, but once i'm lurking, it's hard not to post too ... and I had said that I was going to leave :-)

Anyway, language is fungible - I didn't realise until recently that "scuttling" was chatting in mumsnet - to me, scuttling is associated with little bugs moving underfoot.

bundle · 20/01/2009 22:24

detective my favourite bit is:

Unless it's Hughjarss

GrandPoobahKayHarker · 20/01/2009 22:24

meh. Diplomatic, as ever, but meh.

bundle · 20/01/2009 22:25

mrjustabout

i've been on mn for 8 years

i still don't know what scuttling is (or care)

BennyAndJoon · 20/01/2009 22:25

can I also point out that by saying "strident" I was trying to be lenient

ahhhh but Km you are wrong I have been called one and I have me burden to prove it lol

JustineMumsnet · 20/01/2009 22:26

Re the names issue - it's when someone becomes perceived as the MN house that I think we need to look at names.

A long time ago we were host to a poster called JudgeFlounce who pretended to be a Welsh female barrister and liberally dispensed legal advice. So much so that folks would call for JudgeFlounce to coem and help them out with their legal problems. He turned out to be a psychiatrist.

I think all those who remember him will perhaps have more understanding of where we're coming from?

Incidentally it was PPH iirr who uncovered JudgeFlounce so maybe that explains something too.

Benny and Joon,
There is a line obviously - depends on your definition of persistent I suppose - in general we always give a warning to folk before banning them for breaking the rules (unless they're obvious maniacs that is).

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 20/01/2009 22:26

Mr Justabout - that is EXACTLY what I have been saying!!! That, just like the bank checking whether an unusual debit from our account was fraudulent (it wasn't), checking JA's credentials is a GOOD thing. Because as you rightly say, the next person might be a nutter intent on preaching very damaging stuff, with the authority of a Rev.

ProfRichardDawkins · 20/01/2009 22:26

Are MNHQ also going to check out that people really do drive the cars they claim to drive? Are they going to check the bins of people who claim to only use reusable nappies?

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 20/01/2009 22:27

honesty is the best policy....

fuckitgoblin · 20/01/2009 22:27

persistently on one thread though on one evening herillustrious
not all over the board and repeatedly over days, weeks or months
i think calls for banning mrennido are a bit daft and ott and petty tbh
more daft than asking rejusta to change her name, in fact
and if what pph said about what kerrymum said, well surely she should be banned too?
where does the banning stop after that?
will this place turn into an excessively moderated board like bounty and netmums is? athats not necessaryily a good thing surely?
is it because she is a mouldie?
if people revoke their mouldiness like aitch - will that protect them from calls of bannig?
what about the mumsnet daughters of medioarcity - should they be banned too?
the kind of censorship being suggested seems to far outweight the situation

RiaParkinson · 20/01/2009 22:28

come on - lets not go round in circles

'Kumbaya .....'

Think of Barack Mumsnetters - 'a new day - a new dawn'

Heathcliffscathy · 20/01/2009 22:29

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 20/01/2009 22:29

who said that sophable??

ProfRichardDawkins · 20/01/2009 22:30

Oh and I don't want to be on a thread with anyone who hasn't had CRB clearance.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 20/01/2009 22:30

Just to add to Justine's post, the Judge Flounce thing was a LONG running deception - many MNers were taken in, iirc, he actually persuaded one MNer to send legal files to him for advice. (not sure if they ever were sent or not). He also invented a child who had died, and had adopted the persona of a RL QC, so if you googled his details you came up with a real life female QC, thereby giving credence to his existence. But he must have been on the board for over a year I reckon, started off with a non-legal name, then became WigandRobe, then JudgeFlounce.

saint2shoes · 20/01/2009 22:31

RiaParkinson you are a bit of a butterfly........

fuckitgoblin · 20/01/2009 22:31
