Declaring AI posts

Would it be a good idea to add to MN posting rules

  1. You may use AI to help formulate your opening post if you need help with organising your thoughts / want help with literacy but you must declare this at the start of your OP

  2. A follow up poster may post an AI version of a long / difficult to comprehend opening post but must declare at the start this is what they have done

  3. No other AI use is permitted when posting.

Maybe it’s some kind of groundbreaking social experiment. Maybe Channel 4 are making a programme.

Death by tedious AI, wonder how they got that past the ethics committee. They do say it’s going to end us all, maybe we’re privileged to have a glimpse into the future!

So within a deluge of AI I apparently picked out one sentence in supposed not AI that seemed AI like and Cake takes offence?! It's like a burglar who doesn't like being accused of the 10th house when he did the previous 9.

I would still like to see other people's points of view as to whether MN should have rules on AI and if so what they should be.

Its about time "delusions of grandeur" was added too

Honestly very disappointed in MNHQ for allowing this trolling.

I know i keep going on about it, but maybe MNHQ could add some sort of comment/note reminding people to be mindful that if they use AI, that they are directly contributing to the environmental crisis?

I just wince whenever I see people using it on forums and FB etc in place of their own words. I feel quite sorry for the person too if im honest.

Bizarre isn’t it. Sometimes you’ll see someone ask a question on a Facebook group like a local one or one for a topic . Or asking for advice. Similar to here. And then someone will reply what is clearly AI. They’ll get a ton of comments saying if I wanted to ask AI I’d do it myself!! Why does anyone think it would be useful. It’s so cringe worthy. I’m embarrassed for them too.

Waitingfordoggo · 23/10/2026 16:31

I agree @Megifer. Whenever I mention the environmental impact of AI, people get very defensive and start on about all the other things that are bad for the environment. As humans, almost everything we do impacts the environment, we know this. Most humans though should be able to assess whether what they’re doing justifies the environmental impact (this applies to a whole range of behaviours such as driving cars, taking flights, buying excessive amounts of non-essential items, using the internet and using AI…)

Now that climate change is a climate emergency, I’d love it if everyone thought a bit more deeply about what they do and how it impacts the planet. So for example using AI for work if it’s required, or to assist writing an email or filling in a form for someone with literacy problems or learning difficulties- of course that’s reasonable. But endlessly changing one’s FB picture through a series of AI-generated images (or indeed clogging up several pages of a thread with absolute nonsense) feels really disrespectful with regards to the environmental impact. I don’t understand why people don’t care.

@fashionqueen0123 I’m on a large WhatsApp group of women who met years ago online and one member often answers others’ dilemmas with a ChatGPT response. I don’t know why it hasn’t occurred to them that the person asking the question could have simply asked ChatGPT themselves if that was the sort of answer they wanted 😂

peckishcats · 23/10/2026 16:48

OsfameronTanamoril · 23/10/2026 07:53

This entire thread has been derailed by @cakeorwine 's desperate need for attention.

Yep. And it all goes to prove that AI-generated 'comedy' is desperately unfunny.

Ugh how weird?! How do these people operate in life and manage to get out the front door in the morning 😳

JaneJeffer · 23/10/2026 21:11

I thought the whole point of site stuff was that MN would respond.

peckishcats · 23/10/2026 23:42

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 11:08

Looking forward to people's explanation of their beliefs I have derailed this thread. I have a clear audit that I posted showing my posts but the people who accused me can't be arsed to even pick one to back up their statement.

That's not how accusations work. The material is writing itself and is exposing certain posters for the poor critical thinkers they are.

The OP is 100% confident I am AI. I am curious what she will say when MNHQ confirm I am a long standing poster.

Will MNHQ being an authoritative source make her alter that confidence (AI helped me with the authoritative source bit)

Meanwhile, back at the court house .

MNHQ — The Open Audition
Duck: “Professor, the Chair is asking for more material.”

Grokbottom: “From whom?”

Duck: “The people complaining about CakeorWine's posts.”

Director: “Do they know they're supplying the material?”

Duck: “She's told them.”

Director: “And if they complain again?”

Grokbottom: “That may become another sketch.”

Director: “And if they refuse to explain their complaints?”

Duck: “We've already got a sketch for that.”

Director: “What if they stop responding altogether?”

Grokbottom: “Then the production closes.”

Director: “And the audience?”

Duck: “We don't know whether they're enjoying it.”

Grokbottom: “Quite. Perhaps CakeorWine should ask them?.”

Director: “Please don't ask them to rate it from one to ten.”

The Chair looks thoughtfully at her notebook.

And who says AI doesn't have a sense of humour?

You appear to be utterly incapable of distinguishing between the meaning of the two separate words 'beliefs' and 'opinions'.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 25/10/2026 18:51

Well this thread has just demonstrated to me that AI generated bilge is just tedious shite so well done CakeorWine.

peckishcats · 25/10/2026 20:29

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees Agree, although it appears that cakeholewhine has gone awol.

TeenToTwenties · 26/10/2026 06:21

@Sweetpeasaremadeforbees and @peckishcats What do you think MN rules for AI use should be?

OP posts:
peckishcats · 26/10/2026 11:30

@TeenToTwenties Maybe when you report a thread or post there could be another option to choose called 'AI bilge'.😂

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 26/10/2026 13:58

I don't know if you can control it tbh because eventually it will learn to become slightly less shit.

However MNHQ should be keeping an eye on this because if I see the usual long bullet pointed bold answers I just scroll by, I just can't be arsed with it and if it starts becoming dominant I'll cancel my Premium subscription and not bother with MN at all. The amount of thread deletions or made up threads seems to be rising so commenting does sometimes feel pointless. I can't be the only one thinking this.

cakeorwine · 26/10/2026 16:08

peckishcats · 23/10/2026 23:42

You appear to be utterly incapable of distinguishing between the meaning of the two separate words 'beliefs' and 'opinions'.

So your opinion is that I do not know the difference between belief and opinion?
How strong do you believe that I do not know the difference between belief and opinion?
You can express the strength of your belief that I do not know the difference between belief and opinion on a scale of 1 to 10.

peckishcats · 26/10/2026 17:08

It goes all the way up to number 11.
