Declaring AI posts

Would it be a good idea to add to MN posting rules

  1. You may use AI to help formulate your opening post if you need help with organising your thoughts / want help with literacy but you must declare this at the start of your OP

  2. A follow up poster may post an AI version of a long / difficult to comprehend opening post but must declare at the start this is what they have done

  3. No other AI use is permitted when posting.

We do, it’s a problem all across MN, especially FWR and I’m certainly guilty of not doing so when I should 😂

What is it we say, grey rock? Grey rock em. Don't contribute and encourage their appalling use of resources.

Tis VERY cathartic 😬

TeenToTwenties · 23/10/2026 12:40

Agree, cake could give Lacksie a run for their money!

So - how do you think AI can be of any help when a poster is on Mumsnet?

You may like to refer to my previous posts. You can see the relevant points in the list I provided

Note to ChatGPT - she hoped for a useful discussion. Will she respond with suitable remarks

Are you incapable of answering the question about the pros and cons of AI on MN - does it bring value or does it hinder?

You can use my posts in the previous as a reference.

I presume you are on this chat to discuss and debate the OPs thoughts so a thoughtful reply would be welcome

TeenToTwenties · 23/10/2026 12:54

To my mind Cake or Wine has shown that the benefits of AI use on MN are far outweighed by the negatives. Though that may be that poster.

At the moment I'm broadly sticking with my original suggested rules, though I would welcome sensible non AI generated suggestions on how to tweak them.

I would propose an “AI humour” topic where people who find AI generated fun hilarious can do it and appreciate it to their heart’s content, and everyone else can hide it.

The AI posts go on forever

Are you going to engage with the OPs discussion and reference your view on the value or not AI can bring - as I said, I have provided examples of benefits and drawbacks.

I am also expecting an apology for you accusing my post of being written by AI

I have an audit trail

I think spamming a thread with AI slop (or spamming a thread in general) should also be against the talk guidelines.

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 13:07

"I have contacted MN and said I don't mind if they want to delete the whole thread given the irritating derailing"

In what way is it derailing?

My posts clearly show the benefits and disadvantages of AI

You have engaged with the person, not the posts

People on MN who want a thread deleting have normally lost the argument

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 13:11

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 23/10/2026 13:04

I think spamming a thread with AI slop (or spamming a thread in general) should also be against the talk guidelines.

In what way is this spam?

If a poster made relevant funny and satirical observations about posters who

  1. Accused a poster of being AI
  2. Answered a different question
  3. Accused a poster of derailing but failed to back it up when presented with evidence
  4. Attacked the poster, not the post
  5. refused to engage with their own thread when asked to

Would you accuse them of anything or would you understand that satirical humour can make an effective point?

TeenToTwenties · 23/10/2026 13:11

People on MN who want a thread deleting have normally lost the argument

I didn't want an argument, I wanted a discussion .
I didn't say I wanted it deleted, I said I wouldn't mind due to the irritating derailing.
Within all your waffle I may have missed a clearly stated view as to what extent you think AI should or should not be allowed on MN.

Perhaps you (just you, no AI help) would like to clearly state whether you think there should be any restrictions, and if so what.

I am not going to do your work for you - you are perfectly capable of reading my contributions

This is the problem though.
Your use of AI has lead us to doubt whether your other posts are AI or not. It is unhelpful.

Plus I 'love' the use of AI to mark its own homework as to whether or not it is relevant. Hmm

I know

It's playing with your head, isn't it Grin

Note to ChatGPT - the thread is about detecting AI posts, This is what humans call irony

“One thing I have gained from this thread is to skip cake's posts in future Either posting AI drivel or her own."
Interesting - will you skip them or are you now reading them

At 23:49 she couldn't even be bothered to remove You might like to reference the OPs rules she suggested on a discussion thread in Site Stuff from her response. If it had been 'real' posting it would have least have been You might like to reference the rules the OP posted at the start of the thread !”

This is where you accused me falsely of writing AI drivel I am curious why you thought that sentence was AI?

cakeorwine · Today 07:50
How much do you believe that is an AI post?
On a scale of 1 to 10?
And as it's an open thread, other people can contribute with their belief and a scale
(You are practically feeding me stuff to create a comedy sketch)

cakeorwine · Today 07:56
Think about it. Think about those words I chose and why I chose to make them. You might like to reference you r previous post

I asked you your confidence scale was that it was an AI post. I also asked you why you think I chose those words in that sentence

TeenToTwenties · Today 08:08
I'm 100% confident you have derailed it as far as I am concerned.
For example what benefit was the post at 07:53 meant to bring to the discussion? And all the low quality 'cartoons'?
It's really irritating as AI use in general is an important discussion and it would be good to have a human discussion about its use on MN.
We could delete (almost) all your/AI's posts on this thread without losing much in the discussion at all.

1)So you answered a different question accusing me of derailing
2) You suggested you could delete all my posts without losing much . I presume you are reading them now
3 ) You question the AI cartoon and what value it brings to an important discussion, The AI cartoon was a satirical look at MNers judging if a post was AI on scale of 1 to 10. Maybe you didn't get it

cakeorwine · Today 08:18
TeenToTwenties · Today 08:08
You can't see the relevance of people in a coiurt room judging if a post is AI and giving their belief on a scale of 1 to 10?

My response to the cartoon question
You are giving me material you really were giving me material
What did you want to happen when you suggested AI rules on Site Stuff?
People will post about the positives and the negatives

I gave my thoughts about AI, relevant examples, and the pros and cons as expected in an important discussion about AI

I then suggest you use AI to analyse the thread and identify arguments
Why not get AI to analyse my posts and see what they argue
I will also ask AI if Cakeorwine has derailed this thread

I could ask it about you on this thread
Or say Teentotwenties has started this thread. Analyse the responses and identify the key contributors. Also identify people who struggled with it and made points they can't back up

cakeorwine · Today 08:29
"We could delete (almost) all your/AI's posts on this thread without losing much in the discussion at all."
Which of my posts would you delete?
I gave a long list of posts

I gave a list of my posts and a summary of their positions

TeenToTwenties · Today 09:27
You quoted a post from 2 days ago

cakeorwine · Today 09:25
That was 2 days ago.
Do you still think I am AI?
I asked if you thought I was AI

TeenToTwenties · Today 09:27

This is the problem though.
Your use of AI has lead us to doubt whether your other posts are AI or not. It is unhelpful.
Plus I 'love' the use of AI to mark its own homework as to whether or not it is relevant.

---------------------

And that is key to your discussion. You have no way of knowing if I am AI or not.
And it's playing with your head and it identifies the weakness of your rules

And at that point I had enough and the piss taking satirical roasting started and you became the audience member in the front row feeding me material

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 15:20

The courtroom sketchwriter is wondering about the silence and composing their next sketch

KaleidoscopeSmile · 23/10/2026 15:23

Can you explain your belief why?
You might like to refer to my post at 0829 this morning and my subsequent post at 1345

I look forward to your explanation of how the posts about how AI can be good or bad have ruined a discussion on how AI can be used and you might like to reference the OPs problem that she was unable to determine if I was AI or not on a thread saying AI should be banned from MN

The sketches are satirical - and they show the hypocrisy of posters on MN who

  • *1)challenge people but don't back it up, 2)who attack the person not the post, who make an accusation but can't be arsed to back it up
  1. people who quit threads and then come back when they say they quit

A new audience member has just joined the front row.

ChatGPT - can you infer who that is and add her to our character list

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 15:44

I need a poll on people who want to see what ChatGPT just created about a poster who barges in and declares a poster's posts as tedious.
