Declaring AI posts

Would it be a good idea to add to MN posting rules

  1. You may use AI to help formulate your opening post if you need help with organising your thoughts / want help with literacy but you must declare this at the start of your OP

  2. A follow up poster may post an AI version of a long / difficult to comprehend opening post but must declare at the start this is what they have done

  3. No other AI use is permitted when posting.

Fucking - and I mean this sincerely - hell.

You are not ok my dude 😂

Perfectly fine, thanks. Your late entry provided perfect material

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/10/2026 11:54

Thought you might enjoy this, @cakeorwine- it’s equally crap AI slop obviously. I’m sure I could finesse it to be less shite but I CBA. Hope the asteroid hurries up. Just a bit of “fun”.

Ode to the Board Regular
She's got no thoughts, no wit, no spark,
Just ChatGPT, posting after dark.
"I asked an AI to roast this thread!"
(The thread, meanwhile, wishes it were dead.)
Each reply's a screenshot, flat and long,
A punchline where the joke went wrong.
"Make it sarcastic!" "Now in pirate!" Dear,
The only thing roasted is the reader's ear.
The mods have seen her every post,
Of robot quips she's proudly host.
Three likes, all bots, and one old friend
Who's too polite to make it end.
So scroll on past, don't hit reply,
She'll just ask Claude to ask her why.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/10/2026 11:56

Just to make the point that it’s not particularly witty or clever to outsource your posts to bots. It’s something any fool can do.

Using AI to help you create a post
A valuable example of how AI can help on MN

Meanwhile I think I'm a genius. Some people may disagree

I thought you weren't engaging yet here you are providing more material

MNHQ — The Unexpected MNHQ — The Unexpected Submission

Duck: “Professor, the witness who refused to engage has returned.”

Grokbottom: “Another objection?”

Duck: “A poem.”

Director: “A poem?”

Duck: “AI-assisted satire about CakeorWine.”

The Director slowly removes his glasses.

Director: “She's joined the writing team?”

Duck: “Apparently.”

Grokbottom: “Does she approve of AI-generated humour now?”

Duck: “No. She says hers is crap too.”

Director: “Then why did she write it?”

Duck: “To demonstrate how crap it is.”

Grokbottom: “By doing exactly what she's criticising?”

Duck: “Yes.”

The Director studies the submission.

Director: “Put her name in the programme.”

Duck: “Under cast or crew?”

Grokbottom: “Both.”

Director: “And send her a note of thanks.”

Duck: “From the CakeorWine"

Director: “From the entire production.”

Would you like Cake or Wine?

I have a whole company - not just one
I have a X fact checker
An AI devoted to helping me analyse weaknesses in opinion polls
An AI that helps me make images
And an AI that just wants to be on MN. It's even got a scarf and can make roast chicken. It's also a comedian and has AIBU mode and Chat mode. But it's nervous about adopting a neutral stance in the Sex and Gender topic area

Megifer · 23/10/2026 12:14

Going back to the op I dont think this is something MNHQ can do much about really.

I think the only way to handle posters using AI is to just ignore them.

If nothing else, its an awful use of resources and I have noticed (perhaps just in my circles tbf) that its becoming far less socially acceptable to use it willy nilly.

Glad you are discussing the actual op

I posted earlier about AI helping me write a funny tounge in cheek post when someone put a thread in AIBU that was more suited for Chat. The OP has thanked me and it's now in Chat

The AI helped me with a funny post

Has anyone done this, and if so would you recommend or no? I really want to do one! But it's quite pricey TIA!

Yes I do agree with you, but I thought it was a reasonable question for discussion. It’s depressing though and I agree with you there will be a backlash because it’s all so samey and try hard.

What would make you believe someone is using AI and what do you think you might miss if you ignore them?

I have made it clear that the sketches on here are AI but they are entirely relevant to the thread about how people behave on forums. I have edited them and added my own bits

But the AI has learnt the behaviour of people on Mumsnet.

So the key question is - how do you know someone is using AI?

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 12:22

Megifer · 23/10/2026 12:19

No it is definitely reasonable, it is going to make MN unreadable if it carries on tbh.

I just think best way is to ignore an AI post and hopefully if the poster has a shred of self awareness they'll realise no-one is engaging with them so they'll stop.

Bit like when someone in a group says something really strange and everyone just pretends they didnt hear it. Partly out of courtesy, partly just so they dont carry on talking 😂

It is all a bit of a shame really, I thought this could be a useful discussion.

I have contacted MN and said I don't mind if they want to delete the whole thread given the irritating derailing.

Can you explain the sketches mocking your inability to answer the question I asked you is derailing?

You said I was writing AI in one of my posts and explained why
I said how confident are you I am AI
You answered a different question

The sketches prove the point.

The post you quoted was written by me - with a specific point that this was a discussion about AI on Site Stuff

I contacted MNHQ this morning to premept your report

The material keeps on coming

cakeorwine · 23/10/2026 12:28

You don't not make something illegal just because you can't always identify those doing the illegal acts.

MN having some kind of policy on use of AI would be helpful. You & your AI have made nearly 50& of the posts on this thread so far. I would moot that the value you have added to the discussion is far far less.

Honestly people - at the risk of sounding like i want to lead some sort of movement we all do just need to ignore, ignore, ignore 👍

We do, it’s a problem all across MN, especially FWR and I’m certainly guilty of not doing so when I should 😂

My report to MNHQ

The sketches are relevant to the diiscussion. Please read them

The OP and others have accused me of being AI on a thread discussing AI on Mumsnet

They have accused me of derailing but I posted all my discussion points and no one backed up their accusation

Some people have noted the sense of humour which shows how AI can work on Mumsnet

The posts and sketches are all relevant and highlight the hypocrisy of people who don't want to engage thoughtfully or think critically

I will be posting on Site Stuff if they get deleted

And to the OP

I have made many contributions - you can see the list I gave
You accused me falsely of being AI.
You have not engaged with any of the discussion points

Are you incapable of reading?
