I am really curious at the originality of some names- just HOW did you choose your name?

I'll go first- I thought it might make me appear approachable and friendly- and it is also very anonymous- rather than including my initials or anything like that.

Purple is my favourite colour and
Pillow... well I love my bed

DirtySexyMummy · 09/06/2008 13:07

I used to have a great name and then had to change..

I heard the advert for this show on television whilst I was trying to think of a new name, and thought i'd change it to Mummy at the end for MN.

Also, its quite fitting

themoon66 · 09/06/2008 13:07

I already had an email address that incorporated it. I thought I'd only sign into MN once a month or less (no, don't laugh), so needed something easy to remember.

izzybiz · 09/06/2008 13:07

Not very original I'm afraid, my Dd is Isabelle, and her aunties have always called her izzybiz from a baby!

BoyzntheShire · 09/06/2008 13:08

i am from the mean streets of hackney, but now live in the countryside and i have boys. it is tongue in cheek (coz its rubbish! its v 'parents who think theyre cool'.

i am serial name changer tho. am fickle and bore eassily. longest standing name has been nappiesgalore coz i had 3 babies in 2.5 yrs and was about eye deep in the things for a while there.

claricebeansmum · 09/06/2008 13:08

The name I really wanted was gone - although never posts! Grrr

DD is, to all intents and purposes, Clarice Bean. And I am her mum. And we are both huge Lauren Child fans.

SoupKitchen · 09/06/2008 13:09

A couple of names I wanted had gone, trying to think of won ganced at my bookshelf, and SoupKitchen was the book that stood out, plus I love t cook

AMumInScotland · 09/06/2008 13:09

Totally unoriginal - I'd been lurking for a while and saw a question about the education system in Scotland, and thought "I can answer that!" and registered so that I could.

jumpingbeans · 09/06/2008 13:09

I wanted jellybeans, my fav, but it had gone

MascaraOHara · 09/06/2008 13:10

it rhymed.

Mamazon · 09/06/2008 13:10

i was originlly FATTIEMUMMA as it was pretty descriptive and to the point.

i got nagged because people felt it rude to call me fatty..even though i loved it.

so i asked for help with a new one and someone suggested this...and i am very happy with it.

MummyDoIt · 09/06/2008 13:11

My DSs used to say 'Mummy do it' about a thousand times a day, whenever I asked them to do something, so I thought it might as well be my name.

midnightexpress · 09/06/2008 13:13

I was going through the hell of trying to express milk for a poorly feeding newborn ds1 when I joined MN - HV had told me to express after every feed, including all of the night time ones and I was wondering when in this plan I was supposed to get any sleep. And I wasn't getting much milk when expressing either.

At the time it seemed equivalent to torture in a Turkish prison.

PuppyMonkey · 09/06/2008 13:16

I just started calling my newborn dd2 this name last year the minute she popped out. Means absolutely nothing!

artichokes · 09/06/2008 13:17

I love the Quentin Blake book "Fantastic Daisy Artichoke" and that was my original name. But everyone seemed to think that I believed that I was fantastic, so I dropped the first two words. Also artichokes are my fav food.

Macdog · 09/06/2008 13:23

Macdog was my Springer spaniel (now deceased)

Iklboo · 09/06/2008 13:25
  • one of our first dates was to go and see Monsters Inc at the cinema. DH said the character Boo was very cute and I reminded him of her. SO I got 'iklboo' - he is large & hairy and looks scary but is really very gentle so I call him 'Kitty' (cos Boo calls Sully 'Kitty' in the film)

Please feel free to all over your keyboards

talilac · 09/06/2008 13:25

Its like my RL name. But also not.

ja9 · 09/06/2008 13:28

mine spells my rl name.

which kind of defeats the purpose when people call me ja in posts!

Flibbertyjibbet · 09/06/2008 13:29

Because the first billion names I tried were taken or I thought they might be too close to existing mnetters that I'd seen in all my time of lurking.
I did intend to change it after a couple of days when I thought of something better - then I had ds2 and as with everything since I've been a mum of two - I've never found the time!

I might start referring to the children as flibberteeny1 and flibberteeny2.

It doesn't lend itself to any seasonal name changes but in July could name change to LaFlibbertine for Bastille day (clutching at straws....)

And now 2 years on people know flibbertyjibbet so I can't be arsed to change it.

BoyzntheShire · 09/06/2008 15:11

i like flibberty. it has a je ne sais quoi.

ja9 - as in janine? but do you pron your name janine? or janeen?

Othersideofthechannel · 09/06/2008 15:15

Because I am the other side of the channel from most of you.

If I had known how much I post I would have put a bit more effort into thinking of my name but I don't feel like changing.

foofi · 09/06/2008 15:17

I have had quite a few different names in my time, and it has been interesting how differently people react to different names (not going to be specific!).

Claricebeansmum - re names you want being unavailable but never posting - I had a name I really liked and then flounced once and de-registered from MN. Then when I calmed down and came back it told me the name was already taken - and I was thinking 'Yes, by ME' but it's kind of stuck in limbo now.

Flamesparrow · 09/06/2008 15:18

Wish I knew who DirtySexyMummy was

Mine - I was typing various dragon names years ago for an email address, and suddenly found I had written Flamesparrow and it was accepted. (bloody odd...)

It fits me - I have a flamey side and a small birdy side. StGeorge tells me that the sparrow is a very strong little bird, despite appearances. I like that
