This site is now as absolute shitshow

MNHQ, you know why.

I find I’m spending only about 10% of the time actually reading a thread. The rest is clicking fucking x’s to close down ads, trying to stop the glaring, moving ads at the top, scrolling past mid-thread ads that go on for ages, or scrolling past ‘promoted by’ bollocks that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic that you’re in.

This site is now like Reach media.

Such a shame.

Just adding my voice to say that something seriously needs to be done, if you don’t want to see a mass exodus. There is a lot of goodwill here (I’ve been around for decades, I’m sure you can check). But fuck me, if you don’t tone down the ad invasion, me & many many others will be off.

Still, I’m sure the shareholders are happy, eh.

I seem to have fixed all my issues withMN. It was freezing, randomly changing colour scheme and going back to the top of the page all the time. I was having to restart it over and over again to get though a thread. I deleted all the Mumsnet website data from my browser (after a bit of googling to find out how) and touch wood it seems to be working. I’m on an iPhone on Safari and it’s fiddly to do but it seems worth it.

I’ll try that, do you now go back to the right place on the thread?

I don’t know about this I use bookmarks in all the threads I’m reading. They were still there after I cleared the data.

abracadabra1980 · 29/10/2025 20:49

@scaltthe moving ads actually give me migraines - awful.

dynamiccactus · 01/11/2025 17:12

I don’t like the ads/promotions that appear in the list of active conversations as though they are threads

No and thinking about it, I wonder if they even comply with the law and regulation that say that ads have to be obviously identifiable?

My Bitdefender is constantly telling me that it has shut down suspicious links so what on earth is on the website?

I don't want to use the app because it's way easier to type on my laptop.

Rinoachicken · 02/11/2025 07:56

Latest new thing for me is audio randomly now playing!

im assuming it’s an ad that is playing the audio, that I have accidentally clicked on when trying to scroll down as I read (it’s increasingly difficult to avoid this!) but there’s no way to turn it off!!

Only way to stop it blaring out is to leave the page!

This might just be the thing that pushes me off the site completely - it’s disruptive to people around me and I don’t know when it will happen!

Kucinghitam · 03/11/2025 10:09

Back in the day, the intrusive ads cover up the screen and would make my laptop get really hot and the the internal fan going loudly, so I was forced to install an ad blocker to stop them.

Then MNHQ said it wasn't fair because of the revenue, I thought "fine" and removed the ad blocker. For a while it was fine, the ads didn't seem as bad as before, not too intrusive and video-heavy. Then lately they're back to being intrusive and overwhelming my laptop again.

So now I have to sit here with a roasting hot laptop and howling fan.

Notmymarmosets · 03/11/2025 10:31

I now pay. I was sorry to give in, but my stress levels are now much reduced.

dontcallmelen · 03/11/2025 12:23

Newest feature the page reloading whilst out typing out a painfully slow response to a post is the bloody page reloads & you lose the post I’m seriously losing the will to live.

merkinmanipulator · 04/11/2025 07:21

The pop-up ads cover up the regular ads! If I was Next and I'd paid to have an ad on MN I'd be pissed off that half of it was covered by a video ad for Magic Mike (😒)

From the MN explanation, I gathered that advertisers bid/compete to win each opportunity to show their ad - not that it's a free-for-all and that the ads all come on at once to actively fight for dominance.

zazazaaar · 04/11/2025 07:51

Its becoming unusable and not relaxing at all. Like our local newspaper.

God you are so right! I was just on the Hampshire Chronicle site this morning, I know exactly what you mean! Loads of ads, page jumping around, lots of visual clutter.

That's a Google thing, not an MN thing per se. So any time you see the little triangle in the top right corner, that ad is showing because somebody bid more to have their Google ad showing.

MN ads are shown differently. No little triangle.

coxesorangepippin · 04/11/2025 15:52

Yeah it's crap

BeckyAMumsnet · 06/11/2025 11:02

Hi all - we've just released a change to the site which we're hoping is going to help with the freezing and crashing issue. It would be great to know if this is now happening less for you.

dontcallmelen · 06/11/2025 15:15

@BeckyAMumsnet not freezing or reloading quite a much but this is taking me an age to type as the words being typed out take ages to appear in the message box, also large areas still of white blank nothing when waiting for thread to load, so no not really improved unfortunately.

dontcallmelen · 06/11/2025 15:27

Just been on two shorts threads both reloaded within seconds, I’m on iPad safari.

Misla · 06/11/2025 16:10

Seems to be freezing less today.

JaneJeffer · 09/11/2025 23:42

What’s with all the Christmas threads that are obviously made up nonsense?

dontcallmelen · 10/11/2025 18:06

@BeckyAMumsnet whatever MN has done it’s not working today for practically every reply I’ve tried today the page has reloaded mid posting & the blinking post lost into the ether oh the ghost typing is well & truly active as well.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 12/11/2025 08:08

The page reloading and going back to the top when I open my phone to continue reading a thread is so annoying. Is there a reason why this has been happening, it didn't used to be the case?

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2025 15:43

Latest thing is if you highlight any word on a thread it kicks you off and closes the thread
