Hidden thread - how long does it take to be reviewed?

I started a thread in Chronic Pain yesterday and it's been hidden until HQ can take a look at it. I presume it's because it's asking about medical cannabis - it went straight to hidden as soon as I posted it. Does this kind of thing just stay hidden forever or will it get reviewed eventually?

This has come up a few times - I started a thread about this here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/5262441-this-thread-has-been-hidden-until-the-mnhq-team-can-have-a-look-at-it

I didn’t get an answer as to how we report hidden threads in the absence of a report link on the hidden thread page.

If you report your own thread here to HQ and ask someone to respond they may have an alternative method. (AIUI HQ no longer read Site Stuff so if you don’t report this will stay unanswered)

What is the policy on this and is there a reason why the message can't be updated when its deleted? This one, for example, has been on your waitlist...

Thanks - I didn't realise MN don't look at Site Stuff. I have reported this thread. It does seem a bit long winded to have to create a new thread to report in order to get another thread reviewed.

Hello @namechangeaaargh thanks for posting. We've unhidden your thread now - sorry about that. We usually get to these things pretty quickly but during busy times it can take a bit longer.

@C8H10N4O2 we do look at Site stuff.

@C8H10N4O2 we do look at Site stuff.

Good to know but I have previously been told to report threads in Site Stuff if HQ need to look at them.

is this a change in policy or was that advice just an error?

BeckyAMumsnet · 06/08/2025 13:55

@C8H10N4O2 reporting the thread may mean it gets looked at faster but we do check this board several times per day in any case.

@champignonhill just letting you know that we've taken that thread down for you, as requested.

A thread I started recently got taken down for reviewing on Conflict in the Middle East. I was never informed about why it is still down - presumably never to reappear? It's a bit disappointing when none of my posts got deleted to my knowledge, so I didn't feel I had said anything wrong. There was a lot of troll hunting and personal attacks by other users which were being reported but also interesting points raised.

Does a whole thread really have to disappear rather than being moderated and reinstated? There was never even a warning note put on the thread by MN mods - which I have seen on other threads. That would have helped users who were throwing around attacks and troll hunting to realise that they needed to stop.

It can be a technique used by people who want to silence debate to say things they know are likely to get threads closed down so in that sense it feels like they got what they wanted.
