With the state of the world and climate chaos this seems a good topic to have.

kinkytoes · 18/05/2025 09:49

Thanks @OldJohn I looked in all the more obvious places (which were tenuous in all honesty) and couldn't see anything.

There's Climate Change, but it doesn't get much traffic.
There's also Weather, which often touches on climate and environmental concerns, and there's gardening, which also goes there. And there's Rural Living.

You could come over to the Archers thread. (You won’t get much ‘nature’ on the show, but we’re always talking about it on the thread.)

I would also be interested in a Wildlife / Nature / Conservation thread.

Thank you.

None of those quite hit the spot for me although I did find them on my searches.

Climate change feels too political and wide reaching I think - I'm talking about conservation where we can make a small difference in our own homes and communities. Gardening covers many non conservation areas, ditto weather. Rural living I would think is more about the practicalities of such.

I want to discuss the BTO blackbird study. This would gain no traction in any of the above. Amazed really that this topic isn't anywhere already.

Ooh, yes, please can we have one!

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 18/05/2025 12:57

Exactly. It needs its own topic.

BackToFront78 · 18/05/2025 12:58

Yes, I'd find that interesting too.

Seeline · 18/05/2025 13:10

Excellent idea!
Would be somewhere for all the random what tree/flower/spider is this type questions too.

EndlesslyDecluttering · 18/05/2025 13:14

Me too, I volunteer at a local nature reserve and have done this sort of work on and off all my adult life, also am a member of a local natural history group.

I would follow this!

HebeMumsnet · 19/05/2025 10:31

Morning, everyone. We're always happy to consider new topics but just need to know that they will be well populated and used. We'll keep reading here, so let us know your thoughts on whether you would welcome a topic like this, what you think it might cover and how it could work. Thanks!

TottersBlithely · 19/05/2025 10:47

I would definitely welcome a Wildlife / Nature / Conservation board.

Frenchfemme · 19/05/2025 10:53

I’d be interested

Me too

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2025 11:04

I’ve use The Great Outdoors for nature-related threads in the past. I would think most people who like doing outdoorsy activities also are interested in nature and conservation so I think would be a good overlap rather than making a separate board?

Itsrainingloadshere · 19/05/2025 11:21

I’d also be keen for a thread on this

TottersBlithely · 19/05/2025 11:26

I didn’t even know that board existed, @ErrolTheDragon!

EndlesslyDecluttering · 19/05/2025 11:55

I didn't know that board existed either but I don't do hiking or adventurous outdoor exploration which seems to be more the focus. I spend a lot of time in my garden, at the allotment, short walks or on nature reserves and similar, observing, photographing, reading and talking to other like-minded people.

That’s mostly what I do too, and have used the board for threads on that sort of thing over the years.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/05/2025 12:26

There was a request for a wildlife topic in 2015 - I think the outcome was to use the Science and Nature Club board that existed then. But it is no more - presumably didn’t get used much. That’s why (imo) it’s better to have fewer boards with a wider remit as they’re more likely to make it into Active.

please can we have a wildlife topic? | Mumsnet

I can't see where to put my not-that-exciting ramblings about red kites. a dedicated wildlife topic would be handy [smile] . It doesn't really go in...

Orangemintcream · 19/05/2025 12:41

Do you want to talk about the blackbird study here ? I’ve participated.

Catmads · 19/05/2025 13:03

I'm definitely interested.
I've struggled massively with my mental health during the menopause and all things nature have brought me a lot of comfort.
