a dedicated wildlife topic would be handy . It doesn't really go in pets / rural living / gardens.

I'd like that, too. The Great Outdoors is a bit broad, looking at it. Somewhere to post about stuff we've seen in our gardens and out and about. Our cats were fiddling about with a mole this week, I'd never seen one before and it was a lovely little thing - not exciting to most people but others might be interested.

There is also a science and nature topic.

Those are good topics - so Thanks. I've sometimes wanted to talk about eg wild birds in the garden so they would be useful. (They might not be much used at the moment but that's all down to us isn't it?)

I've been considering starting a thread about raptor persecution, but wasn't too sure where. But anyway-now 5 hen harriers left in Britain. The males mysteriously vanish during nesting season, female has to abandon eggs or starve. Honestly, 5! What impact could they have now on bloody pheasant and grouse?

is science and nature the best place then?

The great outdoors seems to be aimed at camping & hiking types.

I think it would be fine - and like many topics it would really be what people made of it within the broader subject ? (You might find that it's - at least initially - more than a bit slower than some other boards unless traffic picked up through interest.)

It's what you make it I guess. I often join threads about wildlife but would be good to find a more specialist area.

Ohwhatfuckery the fate of the Hen Harrier is pretty dire isn't it. I think you're referring to this 5th Hen Harrier lost

It says that a 5th breeding pair has failed in recent times, and that there are now only a 'handful' of breeding pairs in England. There are more in Wales and Scotland, but sadly it looks like they're on the brink of being lost from England. All down to persecution.

Not according to grouse farmers lying twats. No persecution here. My arse. If anyone is interested may I suggest BAWC and the wonderful "Have you seen Henry?" Campaign.and it's not just harriers, most raptors are seen as a threat to the monoculture of grouse moors.

I'd like a dedicated wildlife topic too. I thought Science and Nature club was more to do with how to get children learning about science (and nature).

Gerund, not at all - those are a few if the threads but there are things about the ISS, stats, male pill etc.

I don't think there is enough traffic to justify a split. I would rather have fewer topics used more widely tbh.

Does it matter if it doesn't get a lot of traffic? Some areas of the site just don't.
