Probably been said before, but an area just for Trans issues?

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 26/04/2025 00:05

Could there be an area just for trans issues please?

Whatever one thinks of it, there are so so many threads on it and with the recent court ruling, at least some of this issue is now going to be decided.

This issue is unfortunately a major societal one now, but the Supreme Court ruling has been made, and the immediate reactions have taken place.

There are so many threads on it. It's taking over and it's hard to escape the conclusion that some of the threads are started, or kept high up on the front pages of various sections, by trans rights activists who are not taking the Supreme Court ruling with grace. It's playing into the hands of people who frankly seem to be posting with their own agenda and it's not always one of goodwill or genuine discourse.

Please could we at least have a section where the multiple, often repeated, threads this issue can go? It's time for that now.

I would say that this typical kind of pushback (this time from Djaki’) is a great example of this: “You think it’s funny that women’s a girls have to do all this because some men have decided to appropriate our words and our spaces? You think that’s a joke?

Obviously, I said no such thing and implying so is irritating.

You fail to recognise that @Ddakji is asking a question thats what the "?" Indicates?

So Ddakji is giving you an opportunity to explain what you trying to say.

You were happy to both imply and claim @Ereshkigalangcleg agreed with your position.

Here is me seconded Ddakji

Please expand on what urged you to post this "random" thought.
What were you saying/implying when you used the word "this"?

This is so amusing - all the verbal acrobatics

Because the thread is about a court case which became a requirement once State actors decided that the word woman = Male and Female when deciding on who could or could not be placed in a role

As for the other question, I knew exactly what Ddjaki’s intention was. I didn’t intend to answer the question as it didn’t have anything to do with the OP and would likely derail.

Ddakji · 29/04/2025 07:47

So what did you mean by your comment?

I meant that certain posters were going extreme lengths to avoid stating that FWR is an echo chamber. It had nothing to do with “women’s a girls have to do all this because some men have decided to appropriate our words and our spaces” (as you wrote).

I’m guessing that they might do that because you seek to weaponise that against them. You wouldn’t be the first.

Would you be in favour of the sex and gender section being dismantled and all discussions being incorporated into the main boards rather than siloed off into a corner?

Weaponise it? Good lord. No. It’s an observation.

No, I don’t think the discussions should be incorporated into the main board (unless that’s what the majority wish).

And why is that? These are issues that impact women (the main users of MN) and girls, 51% of the population, whether they consider themselves feminists or not.

Because, like it or not, discussions of this type tend to be quite polarising. I think it’s better to keep them in their own section.

Surely robust debate is the best way to reach a consensus? If the SC ruling shows us anything, it’s that siloing females and their pesky opinions away isn’t a good idea, and has in part led organisations to wrongly enforce the law, exposing them to litigation.

BundleBoogie · 28/04/2025 20:10

Plenty of trans activists frequent the feminist boards to mansplain, insult and berate us for wanting to talk about our rights. Clearly not an echo chamber.

This

i do not think MN is transphobic…i think that on mumsnet there are transphobic people

if i thought that MN was a transphobic board I would not be on it

so can anyone who believes that MN is a transphobic forum please explain why they on it….

i think maybe there should be an LGBT section just for info and news, not for children per se or parents which I believe are in the parenting section

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 29/04/2025 19:46

They are on it

honestly i can type!!!!

We are all women (mostly). There is a reason Politics has its own section, as does Covid, etc. Not everyone wants threads on these topics popping up in the general forum. Is that what you meant? Or did you mean merging the two Feminism boards?

Let me rephrase /reorganise the question:

Couleur · 28/04/2025 12:37

This is so amusing - all the verbal acrobatics

What did you mean when you used the word "this"?

Or

You are not allowed to use the word "this" can you rephrase the text so that you are substituting other words?

Or

Who or what is "this"?

TeenToTwenties · 30/04/2025 06:59

FWR think that sex is more important than identity and have various arguments to support that.
T think that gender identity is more important than sex, but because gender identity is an inner feeling not physical fact they have trouble persuading FWR on this. Sometimes they try to ague on facts but they tend to get trounced by the very knowledgeable FWR posters, then flounce off.
You can't argue fact with belief or vice versa.
And in the middle are a bunch of 'be kind' who have limited argument at all apart from please just ignore it all.
I don't think it is any more of an echo chamber than any other single issue board.

The posters attempting to avoid saying FWR is an echo chamber. I found that amusing.

popeydokey · 30/04/2025 08:59

So there are discussions that provoke polarising points of view. I wonder which discussions these are and where these sets of opposing views are being expressed?

Similar to 'child-free weddings' in AIBU, or private schools in Chat.

Ok thanks for the clear reply.

You are OK with a thread derail once it allows you to call the FWR section an echo chamber.
