On the app on an iPad, the font size is now tiny. Is there a way to make it bigger? Even with reading glasses, it is hard to read and much smaller then my other apps

Just came looking to see if this was a thing!
Sat in bed with a coffee & my iPad & it’s really hard to read! to the point I’ve given up!

I also couldn’t post about it because my draft post was right at the bottom of the screen - the actual post ‘button’ wasn’t visible for me to hit! I was caught in a loop of discard post or continue editing!

I’ve had to get up mumsnet! 😱

Website and app - both on iPad.

Just to add, my iPad model is A2696 with default settings for everything.

Please change Mumnset it’s clearly a fault.

mollycoddle77 · 07/04/2025 07:11

It’s awful, I won’t be able to use the app in the long term if this persist. I found a way to adjust text size across all apps on my iPhone - in Display and Brightness > Text Size, but that makes the font size in other apps way too big!

RuthTopp · 07/04/2025 07:15

It's way too small on a kindle as well . Please go back to how it was .

Cyclistmumgrandma · 07/04/2025 07:19

I'm finding it way too small on the iPad since the change. Very difficult to read.

Longma · 07/04/2025 10:40

The font is definitely smaller than on any other app I use and it’s challenging to read in some lights as a result.

it’s not bad on my iPad Pro but assume that’s because it’s a much larger screen to begin with.

Hi OP,

Thanks for reaching out. We recently adjusted the font size in the app to better align with other apps. Could you describe which text feels much too small for you now?

Would you mind taking a screenshot and sharing it with us so we can ensure everything looks as it should? If you could also let us know what kind of iPad you're using, that would be amazing. Thank you!

It’s the main text of posts that feels too small now.
it is definitely not the same size don’t in my other apps; it’s significantly snaller.

TianasBayou · 07/04/2025 13:37

@AmeliaPMumsnettagging you in case you haven’t seen the recent feedback. Please sort it as it’s making the app unusable on iPhone. Thank you

For some people… it’s perfect for me and I guess that’s their problem!

FawnDrench · 10/04/2025 20:07

The new font size is far too small - it’s bloody terrible!
Not user-friendly at all imo.
Please please do something about this - you’ve had lots of complaints already!

Has Mumsnet responded on anyone’s posts regarding the font, behind the first one on here?
My eyesight isn’t bad but it’s now far too small on the app and you can’t pinch the screen to manually zoom in and out, so it’s now proving to be a bit of a useless app for me now.

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2025 22:53

No they haven’t addressed it at all. It gives me a headache if I stay on too long so it’s been great for reducing the amount of time I spend on here.

starlingsintheslipstream · 14/04/2025 09:49

Please sort the font out. I’m finding it unusable on my iPhone app.

Morning, everyone.

One thing that might be worth a try is uninstalling and reinstalling the app just to make sure you're up to date as we did adjust the font size a couple of weeks ago to bring it in line with other apps.

Many users have found that adjusting the fonts in their own devices has worked too, though we can see that some people on this thread have then found other apps too large to read once Mumsnet is big enough.

If that's your experience (ie you've increased the size in your device settings to make Mumsnet big enough to read but are now finding other apps too big for your device as a result), could you tell us which other apps then appear too large? We're looking here at some of the major apps like Facebook, gmail. WhatsApp and others, having increased the font size on devices, and they don't look huge at our end, but it would be really helpful to know which apps are affected by this. Screenshots would be really helpful too so we can see how they compare.

Many thanks. Flowers

It was that change which caused the problem for people finding the font too small now and not in line with their other apps.

im finding it ok on my iPad with dynamic sizing one increment above the midpoint, but its smaller than I’d like on my iPhone SE even with the dynamic sizing at maximum. The thread headings are ok. With the dynamic sizing at the midpoint it’s a strain to read even with my reading glasses on. Never mind other apps - surely you should be aiming for something comfortable to read at the midpoint of the size setting? Maybe just making the font for the body of the post the same size as that used for the heading would work - they’re sufficiently distinguished by bolding.
Here are screenshots at minimum, midpoint and maximum sizing - obviously they need to be scaled such that they’d fit an iPhone SE. If you can get it right on the smallest phone then hopefully bigger ones should only be better.

Just done that and there’s no difference.

JaneJeffer · 14/04/2025 17:13

Does anyone know what number the current update is?

Mobile site having problems too. The page keeps sliding all over the place.

Reinstalling makes no difference.

All the other apps look too big, I can’t change the device settings for only one app.

Like others I have the most up to date version.
Never had this issue with any other app.
I can’t see how this font is ‘inline with other popular/common apps’. when the font is noticeably much smaller. Why are the apps this is supposed to be similar too, and I’m happy to check and see if it is similar.

it’s pretty much every other app that ends up too large when I tried changing the sizes in my iPad settings, similar to the screenshots above.

TianasBayou · 14/04/2025 22:19

I’ve screenshot the website and the app side by side. The app font is appreciably smaller. This is an iPhone 13 with text set at midpoint. App version is 45.0.12 (automatically updated). HTH

My app still has this problem, on both ipad and iphone.

if I go to [person icon on top right ] - settings - feedback in the app, then it starts composing an email to Mumsnet which says that my system is -

iPad (10th generation)
OS Version: 18.3.2
App Version: 45.0.12
Build Number: 108

on my phone, it is

iPhone SE (2nd generation)
OS Version: 18.3.2
App Version: 45.0.12
Build Number: 108

it would probably be helpful to @HebeMumsnet if others posted the same details from their apps and then we can pin down the problem.

“Another app” on the left vs MN on the right. Not only is the text smaller but the background is darker which makes it harder to read.

The photos switched sides but the small one is MN!
