MNHQ: Our new mobile apps are out now!

AmeliaPMumsnet · 12/03/2025 10:13

Hi all,

The new version of our mobile app is now available on Android and will be available on iOS over the next couple of days. All users will be logged out when the update happens and will need to log in again to access the new app. You can continue to use the current app if your device doesn’t automatically update (some do), but we’ll be stopping support for this version at the end of the month, so we’d recommend downloading the new version from the App store.

We know this has been a long time coming for some, and we really appreciate your patience. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the beta testing group, your input has been invaluable. This is very much a first release that won’t include everything we want to include just yet. But we’re going to be making ongoing improvements, and we’ll continue listening to your feedback to shape future updates.

What’s new?
Here’s what you can look forward to in the new app:

  • Nested quoting – You can now quote a post that already contains a quote—just like on the website—making it easier to keep up with discussions.
  • AIBU? polls – You can now vote on AIBU? polls and even create your own.
  • Thanks – Show your appreciation for helpful posts by thanking other users. You’ll also be able to see when someone thanks you!
  • Edit your posts – You can now edit your posts from the app without heading to the website.
  • See all posts by the OP – Android users can now filter posts to only see replies from the original poster, making it easier to follow their updates in a thread.
  • Follow topics – Curate your own personalised feed by following your favourite topics, so you can easily find the discussions that matter most to you.
  • More images – You can now upload more images in a single post than before, making it easier to share moments and information.
  • GIFs – Sometimes words aren’t enough—now you can post GIFs to react, express yourself, or just add some fun to conversations!

What’s coming next?
We know there’s still work to do. Some features you’ve asked for aren’t in this first version, but that doesn’t mean we’re ignoring them. Here’s what we’re already working on for future updates:

  • Links via emails – Email links will currently open in your browser to start with but we are investigating forcing them to open in the app.
  • Dark mode – A long-requested feature! We’re working on bringing dark mode to the app for a more comfortable viewing experience, especially at night.
  • More reactions – Right now, you can thank posts, but we’re planning to introduce more reaction options so they match what’s available on the website.
  • Better push notifications – We’re making push notifications more useful and adding different types of alerts, so it’s easier to stay updated on the things you care about most.
  • Notifications centre – We’ll be introducing a dedicated notifications hub in the app, making it easier to catch up on all your notifications in one place.
  • PMs – We know many of you have asked for PMs to be included in the app. This is on our radar, but it will take some time to get right. We’ll keep you updated on our plans!

Let us know what you think - your input really helps to fix any initial glitches and help us keep improving. And thanks again for sticking with us - we can’t wait for you to try the new app! 💜

Still no capital letter at the start of a new line. Sad
is that not pretty basic ?

I ran into this early on. It happens if you use the little keyboard key in the bottom right corner to stow the comment box. Try to avoid doing that, instead pull down on the little bar at the top of the screen.

Thank you so much.I’ve been having the same problem.surely there’s a fix though to the actual problem?

harijes · 21/04/2025 21:05

Trending looked like this all day. See photo. Spinning no updates

@AmeliaPMumsnet any update on the downgrading of accessibility now the swipe feature has gone? I know I’ve said it before but it’s become significantly harder for anyone with a physical disability affecting their hands and I genuinely can’t understand why this isn’t being acknowledged.

AmeliaPMumsnet · 22/04/2025 14:26

Apologies for the delay in responding to some of these issues.

We’re currently reviewing the recent changes we made to text size based on your feedback. If you’re having trouble with text size in the app, it would be really helpful to know which specific parts you’re finding difficult to read. For example, thread titles, posts, usernames, or the date/time. This will help us review the overall balance and spacing.

Thank you also for flagging the issue with emojis. This is a bug we're actively looking into, and we’ll push an update as soon as we have a fix.

Hi @deeahgwitch

On the capitalisation issue, as I mentioned in a previous post, this is something we’re seeing across both the website and the app. We know it seems like a simple fix, but the tool causing the issue isn’t something we can control on our side. We are actively exploring different solutions, but it won’t be a quick fix as it requires quite a bit of investigation. We know it’s frustrating, and we want to reassure you that we’re doing everything we can to get it sorted.

I press on the screen and there’s a tiny haptic thing and it copies the whole text.

being able to highlight would be preferable

I also wish there was a way to collapse the keyboard when typing on a phone; I can only see a sentence. The previous app you saw and could read your whole post - it just helps for clarity in discussions (esp on the fwr board!)

Hi @WarriorN

You mentioned a little while ago that you'd like to be able to collapse the keyboard when typing on your phone. Would you mind letting me know what device you're using so I can look into this for you?

And I still can't see any formatting... That last bit doesn't show as bold for me in the app.

Thanks for flagging the issue where you can’t see bolded text @giveupmengetacat. We haven’t been able to recreate this on our side, so it would be really helpful if you could let us know the name and model of the device you’re using.

Post # 2 showing when I can, and cannot, post

Hi @PoppySeedBagelRedux

Thanks so much for sharing the screenshots - they’re really helpful. If the issue with the reply box staying thin after pasting something is happening consistently, would you be able to take a screen recording and send it to us at [email protected]? It would be a big help in trying to recreate and fix the issue.

Sorry about the issue you’re having with closing the reply box and not being able to reopen it on iPad. We’re aware of this and will be working on a fix soon. Thanks to Errol for sharing the temporary workaround. If you use the tab to open and close the reply box for now, that should let you post as usual until we can get it properly sorted. Thanks for your patience!

@AmeliaPMumsnetmy bookmarks have stopped working again

Thanks for flagging the issue with bookmarks @lakecomomo. We pushed out an update at the end of last week that should have resolved the problem where bookmarks weren’t being honoured at all. Please do let us know if you’re still seeing issues.

On the swipe feature, we know a lot of users prefer this and find it easier to use. We’re planning to bring it back in the near future, but it’s not a quick change, so it won’t be returning immediately.

It’s just smaller

first pic the app
second pic the test app - which I know runs out soon

test app is bigger so I prefer

The text size on the app is tiny and I really struggle to read it. The colour is also not very dense so it seems more grey than black. An option to change text size would be useful.

Well, now know how to do a screen recording - didn’t know about that feature.

But when I was recording, the issue didn’t happen... Next time it does, I will record and send to you.

Don’t know how it happened but I managed to sort it by going into my account and picking preferences. Interesting highlighted colours.

Can someone please tell me how I find the new app. I’ve looked on App Store and it doesn’t appear to be there. Thanks

You really need to post your question as a new thread in the relevant section. Chat is good for traffic as lots of people read that.
