MNHQ: Our new mobile apps are out now!

Hi all,

The new version of our mobile app is now available on Android and will be available on iOS over the next couple of days. All users will be logged out when the update happens and will need to log in again to access the new app. You can continue to use the current app if your device doesn’t automatically update (some do), but we’ll be stopping support for this version at the end of the month, so we’d recommend downloading the new version from the App store.

We know this has been a long time coming for some, and we really appreciate your patience. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the beta testing group, your input has been invaluable. This is very much a first release that won’t include everything we want to include just yet. But we’re going to be making ongoing improvements, and we’ll continue listening to your feedback to shape future updates.

What’s new?
Here’s what you can look forward to in the new app:

  • Nested quoting – You can now quote a post that already contains a quote—just like on the website—making it easier to keep up with discussions.
  • AIBU? polls – You can now vote on AIBU? polls and even create your own.
  • Thanks – Show your appreciation for helpful posts by thanking other users. You’ll also be able to see when someone thanks you!
  • Edit your posts – You can now edit your posts from the app without heading to the website.
  • See all posts by the OP – Android users can now filter posts to only see replies from the original poster, making it easier to follow their updates in a thread.
  • Follow topics – Curate your own personalised feed by following your favourite topics, so you can easily find the discussions that matter most to you.
  • More images – You can now upload more images in a single post than before, making it easier to share moments and information.
  • GIFs – Sometimes words aren’t enough—now you can post GIFs to react, express yourself, or just add some fun to conversations!

What’s coming next?
We know there’s still work to do. Some features you’ve asked for aren’t in this first version, but that doesn’t mean we’re ignoring them. Here’s what we’re already working on for future updates:

  • Links via emails – Email links will currently open in your browser to start with but we are investigating forcing them to open in the app.
  • Dark mode – A long-requested feature! We’re working on bringing dark mode to the app for a more comfortable viewing experience, especially at night.
  • More reactions – Right now, you can thank posts, but we’re planning to introduce more reaction options so they match what’s available on the website.
  • Better push notifications – We’re making push notifications more useful and adding different types of alerts, so it’s easier to stay updated on the things you care about most.
  • Notifications centre – We’ll be introducing a dedicated notifications hub in the app, making it easier to catch up on all your notifications in one place.
  • PMs – We know many of you have asked for PMs to be included in the app. This is on our radar, but it will take some time to get right. We’ll keep you updated on our plans!

Let us know what you think - your input really helps to fix any initial glitches and help us keep improving. And thanks again for sticking with us - we can’t wait for you to try the new app! 💜

It works for me.

It worked for me too, I’m not sure what I did in the previous case that caused the reply to be disabled.

Morning @ErrolTheDragon,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot of the issue where you weren’t able to reply after pasting a post and editing it down. It’s good to hear that it’s now working for you. I’ve tried to recreate it on our side so we can look into it, but I haven’t been able to. If it happens again, please let us know!

Unfortunately, we aren’t able to bring back the option to select specific text from threads and look it up due to the framework we’re using in the new app. However, we know this is something many users would like, so we’re exploring whether there’s another solution.

Hi everyone,

We’ve just released a new update this morning, which is currently available on iOS. We’re hoping to release it on Android soon and will let you know when it’s ready.

Thanks again for all your feedback. It’s been really helpful in shaping these updates. Here’s what’s included:

  • Copy text from posts - We’ve added a ‘Copy text’ option to the menu on posts. Many of you told us that you often copy parts of a post to quote in a reply. While we couldn’t replicate the old app’s functionality due to technical limitations, this new option lets you copy the entire post, which you can then edit down in your reply.
  • Threads open in the app - Links to other threads will now open directly in the app instead of the in-app browser. This was a popular request, and we’re looking to expand it in the future so other Mumsnet links work the same way.
  • Thread flipping fix - We’ve fixed an issue where flipping a thread would take you to a bookmarked post instead of the start of the thread.

Morning all!

Just a heads up that we've now released this update to Android as well.

And another thing …
On the old app you could unwatch threads on your ‘watching’ list by swiping the thread title from the list. Now you have to open the thread and unwatch it from the three dots at the top of the thread. Another extra step added! Would it be possible to revert to the old method of unwatching please?

Seems to have updated because I had to accept t&c yet again. What happened? The text is tiny and I still can’t c&p

Queenanne20 · 04/04/2025 09:05

{mention:AmeliaPMumsnet}{mention:AmeliaPMumsnet}I@AmeliaPMumsnetI've@AmeliaPMumsnetI@AmeliaPMumsnetI've still got weird stuff going on when I tag someone, repeats their name and inserts text when I start typing between their name(s).

The MN emojis are not appearing in posts (don’t know if they show up on the browser or mobile version) - whether you use the emojis list or try typing them with [ and ] brackets (confused) (deliberately not using the square brackets so that you can get a sense of which emoji I’d like to use)

Just trying a few in iPad app Smile Smile hm, choosing the smile from the ones available when you comment works as I type in but doing it old-style with brackets seems not to which means I can’t do Dragon . And then in the preview they’re gone.
Screenshots attached.

Links and bookmarks still don't work.

WarriorN · 04/04/2025 14:12

Much better, thank you! Easier to fine names and read more text

WarriorN · 04/04/2025 14:13

thats my copy and paste though it copies the whole thing

I think that’s the problem that I had, with not being able to post, but trying it again it seems to be working OK.

Yes I have this problem too.

Doesn’t do anything for me. I can see the option but it doesn’t work.

WarriorN · 05/04/2025 06:14

I press on the screen and there’s a tiny haptic thing and it copies the whole text.

being able to highlight would be preferable

I also wish there was a way to collapse the keyboard when typing on a phone; I can only see a sentence. The previous app you saw and could read your whole post - it just helps for clarity in discussions (esp on the fwr board!)

WarriorN · 05/04/2025 06:15

ConfusedCakeBrew

im getting my beloved emojis

not sure about the order tho!

WarriorN · 05/04/2025 06:16

Ah no, I’m not!

QueenAnnesHat · 05/04/2025 07:25

The latest update seems to have shrunk the font size of posts on the app (iPad). It’s really uncomfortable to read. I’ve compared it with the website on the same device - the font is larger and easier on the eyesight.

Maviaz · 05/04/2025 11:35

The copy and paste is now working. However it copies the entire post not just the part I want to comment on, so I may as well just quote the whole postHmm

Yes it's tiny! I'm struggling to read and it's very off putting.

deeahgwitch · 06/04/2025 10:31

The capitalisation at the start of a new line following a full stop on the previous line still hasn’t happened @AmeliaPMumsnet
This is a basic. Standardised.
why is it not sorted please ?
it’s annoying. otherwise I’m delighted with the changes in the Mumsnet IPhone app.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2025 10:49

Seems some links still don’t work on my tv thread @AmeliaPMumsnet which is weird

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 09/04/2025 05:50

I can’t use copy and paste - I simply can’t highlight the text whether I click on ‘copy text’ first or second. I’m on an iPad and the software is up to date.

It’s not a proper c&p. It just copies the whole of a post so you can then paste it into the reply box where you can edit it down or add bolding etc like I’ve just done below. It’s a rather clunky workaround to something that seems like a basic mis-step in the design of the new app. The posts seem to be rendered as ‘dead’ text you can’t interact with at all. I’m really missing not being able to highlight the name of a plant and look it up on the gardening thread!

giveupmengetacat · 09/04/2025 11:31

And I still can't see any formatting... That last bit doesn't show as bold for me in the app.
