Can't delete an accidental @

It has happened to me on a few occasions. I @ the wrong poster accidentally but it doesn't seem possible to delete even if I haven't hit the post button.
Any idea on what I am doing wrong?

You can't. There's been threads about it before and it hasn't been sorted out!

A workaround for me is to type random text on either side of the offending tag, and then select all, or click and drag to highlight. Then you can delete it.
I'm on android, using browser.
