Board for high earners

I see that the other thread was started by an OP who wasn’t engaging in good faith. I certainly am so, Mumsnet, can we please have a separate board for high earners? It would be helpful for these threads to be in one place and to avoid them being high jacked by the inevitable “small violin” and “diamond shoes” comments.

Id like a board for ugly, poor, dickheads please

I'm all those things and more - chubby with distinctly average kids and a scruffy home. Looking forward to finally being with my people.

goodluckbinbin · 08/10/2024 21:51

To what end OP?? To discuss what exactly? Having more money than most people??? It makes no sense.

What if my GP is called Phil?

Love it. This thread has really cracked me up. Clever and funny 😍

It doesn't need to make sense. We've got more money.

I don’t understand how mnet becomes a choice for an intelligent career woman on this tbf.

I’d seek proper advice if I needed to address a pensions issue, everyone’s situation is unique.

I’d reach out to something like CMI Women or another one of my professional networks on career focus.

I certainly would not come here where people are anonymous and could write a complete load of fiction if they chose to.

Yes surely the point is that is you earn over 100k you probably have other resources to ask about private school fees or tax trusts or school fees…. So why are you asking mumsnet?

hence it could be called ‘Free advice for The Loaded’ board.

the UHNW and HNW can ask their advisors

readysteadynono · 08/10/2024 22:01

Oh wow.

FilthyRich · 08/10/2024 22:01

There could be an abbreviation for 'my partner with whom I have young children is abusive and controlling, never helps, but he's a great dad'.

Oh, there already is STBXP.

SnowFrogJelly · 08/10/2024 22:04

Would we have to provide proof of high earnings before being allowed in

FilthyRich · 08/10/2024 22:04

To those of you only scraping into the UHNW bracket, I am considerably richer than you.

pizzaHeart · 08/10/2024 22:06

MN is like real life and in real life if you ask a question you may get variety of comments including sarcastic.
Sometime people are just trying to offer you a different perspective and it might be annoying but at the same time it might be helpful. Even if you go for a professional advice you might get a bit of this at least because people are not perfect, they have emotions, bad days, good days, and there is always possibility of misunderstanding.

By the way I’ve noticed that when OP’s post is calm and factual - most replies are calm and factual. Yes, not all of them but when we have this luxury in real life?

Allthegoodnamesaregonegone · 08/10/2024 22:08

What are we defining as high earning? Is it household or an individual?

SabreIsMyFave · 08/10/2024 22:09

FilthyRich · 08/10/2024 21:49

Am I eligible? I probably earn more than most, and have inherited wealth too.
I'm in every list of the most beautiful women in the world, and I've had no cosmetic work. I'm regularly asked for ID as I still only look18.

You only get into the club if you get IDd for booze and red bull and you're 60!

I have one tall child. Can I get in? Grin

My other one is a big shorter and more slight than athletic. She is a bit teeny tiny though, so that's double points right...?!

Me and DH earn less than £40K between us though. (Both part time.) Do I lose points now?

DH, of course!

FilthyRich · 08/10/2024 22:11

I'm nowhere near 60! How dare you!

Well on the rest of the boards, if anyone dares to mention a higher income they are bullied of the thread (see 50% of the replies in here as examples).

So it would be to discuss anything and everything that might cause income-related-sensitivity if discussed elsewhere.

There are a lot of posters assuming it would be to ask for financial advice. I don’t think anyone requesting it has suggested that.

Bex268 · 08/10/2024 22:15

Reading this thread has been hilarious 🤣 I’ve loved it. Some very funny comments indeed.

Oh no I wasn't saying that! I was saying you only get in the Special Mumsnet Club if you are 60 and still get IDd Grin

!

itsmylife7 · 08/10/2024 22:19

mn at its best 😂

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 08/10/2024 20:17

I’ll expand on what I said on the last thread.

I think it’s a great idea in theory, but it will get trashed, as you can see from the comments already.

It would be great to have a place for WOMEN high-earners to advise each other on the specific issues that go along with that.

Unfortunately those discussions can’t be had on MN. Financial discussion for high earners can very sensibly be had on MSE, but not women-specific.

So we miss out. This is why we can’t have nice things!

lol 🙄

'This us why we can't have nice things' My 8 year old said that, just as patronisingly, to her 5 year old brother tonight.

If MN were like real life:

Imagine a country pub called Mumsnet Arms. The pub is full of all kinds of people, all chatting and nattering together. Some laughing over something idiotic, some seriously discussing their current relationship, some crying.

Someone walks in and asks for advice about a topic whilst making sure everyone knows how much cash they earn and how much tax they avoid by paying in £££ to their pension pot.

A lot of the people in the pub ignore them and chat amongst themselves.

Some in the pub listen and give advice.

But a good majority of the pub can barely afford a pint of beer. Can barely afford to pay their gas bill. Can barely afford to light their homes.
These people have been told repeatedly they shouldn't have had kids. Or they should have made better choices.

So the wealthy person asks a question whilst highlighting their income and pension input.
The poorer people living on less than the wealthy pay to their pension a month take the piss out of the wealthier people..

The wealthier people then complain the poor have dared speak up..

And then the rest of the pub realise how idiotic it is to be complaining about money issues when you save thousands and pay thousands into a pension whilst millions of others are starving and can barely afford to exist.

And then the bar man calls time and the poorer folks go and sit outside in the cold, whilst the richer folks go home to light, warmth and good food.. on the way home, the wealthy folks complain to each other that the poor get too much.. and that they shouldn't have kids or tvs or mobile phones or winter fuel help..

Frith2013 · 08/10/2024 22:29

Can we have board for "bored of high earners" ?

Tangfastic71 · 08/10/2024 22:29

Why don’t we celebrate high earning women? What if we could learn from them?
It reminds me of being at school (comp), doing well in an exam, and everyone piling on about me being a girly swat.
Fuck sake.
Men earn more than us (fact). What we are missing out on here by goading and piss taking is that some women have cracked the code. They are probably somewhat isolated by it…can’t talk to anyone about it because it’s seen as boastful, but might actually want to help others and be helped by others.
The ones who go on about VAT on private education though, they can fuck right off. You want a good education for your kids…either fight for a good state system or suck it up

MurdoMunro · 08/10/2024 22:31

I don’t think it would work. I’ve heard there are quite a few oiks with 100k ‘salaries’ and they could just wander in with loose membership criteria like that. Could you imagine….trades?
