Muting a poster

Is it possible to mute or block a poster?

I’m sick of seeing his/her posts.

No.

Scaevola · 08/10/2024 12:34

No, you just scroll on by

EauNeu · 08/10/2024 12:42

I never notice usernames on here. Why are they bothering you so much?

stepintohannakey · 08/10/2024 12:43

Following with interest to see if said poster is the person I think it is!

Because they post a heck of a lot in topics I’m interested in, my finger is getting sore from scrolling past, and my eyes are getting sore from rolling.

You just got every poster on here a little paranoid 😄

AlisonDonut · 08/10/2024 12:56

They will accuse you now of personal attacks. And get you suspended.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/10/2024 12:59

Sadly it isn't possible @FeralWoman

Lurkingandlearning · 08/10/2024 13:04

Apparently, a lot of MN name change from time to time similar to how people change passwords regularly. So that poster might well annoy you under a new name.

What’s stopping scrolling past?

I’m not attacking anyone. They can keep posting what they post. I just want an easier way to not read it. I get what you mean though.

I don't think I've ever paid that much attention to anyone's username.

FeralWoman · 08/10/2024 13:07

I do but it’s a lot. On a different forum I’m on you can block a poster so that their name appears in the thread but not the contents of their post. You can click to reveal the post. It’s much quicker to scroll on past it.

I have the same feelings about a male member who posts often....

Tittat50 · 08/10/2024 13:10

It would impact the entire flow and context of a discussion if that happened I guess. It's great to have differing views and I think if we can't tolerate it or find a way to just ignore it, it might be time to step away for a bit.

If people become hateful or harassing, it seems that MN will jump on that.

That’s why the poster is shown but the contents hidden. If you need to read their post to understand the flow then you can click on it and see the contents. It’s very handy.

No problem with differing views. Poster isn’t being hateful. I just don’t want to read their posts and blocking, like on my other forum, is the easy way to do this.

Guess I’d better rest my scrolling finger, put ice on it, and then put it back in action. Don’t want to get RSI: repetitive scrolling injury.

I get it. There is someone I would definitely mute.

Sorry, Feral.... 😁

Datun · 08/10/2024 14:13

I have a poster in mind.

I tend to skim their posts anyway, but a mute button would be a lot less irritating.

Course, there are posters who do it in order to be irritating.

SirChenjins · 08/10/2024 14:17

I agree OP - it would be handy to have a mute button so I could skip past the comedy without having to even catch a glimpse of the same old rubbish.

I always notice yours waves because it’s brilliant 🤣

Helleofabore · 08/10/2024 14:22

Sometimes it is a type of baiting or farming. I am thinking of the term 'outrage farming' to base it off.

It could be considered negative feedback farming.

Yes!

court negative feedback in order to complain about it.

I will look out for yours now!
