This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

I had issues with the site on my Windows laptop in early July. Constant crashing/freezing.
But then my laptop did an update and it's been fine since... Very weird.

DefyingGravitas · 25/08/2024 16:43

It even constantly refreshes the Active Threads page now.

OutdatedOutrage · 27/08/2024 08:38

Seems particularly bad today. Freezes and taking forever to load with half the page remaining blank whilst you are waiting.

Why is MN still not dealing with this when it makes the site unusable?

Constantly crashing and freezing.
WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 27/08/2024 08:40

It’s getting ridiculous.

Solonga · 27/08/2024 09:53

It's terrible, I'm starting to give up with long threads and only looking at short ones

Because we are the product, not the customer.

Hello, everyone. We appreciate your patience as we continue efforts to find the cause of this issue. If anyone can help with any of the following, that would be very useful to us:

1: Please share links to specific threads where the issue is happening

2: We want to identify if this is geo-specific problem and so knowing your location would be useful. That doesn't mean we want to know exactly where you live so don't worry! But if you feel comfortable sending us an email with your location (e.g Manchester) then please do so.

3: We're also interested in what privacy consent state you are using on Mumsnet? You can check this by going to: 'privacy settings' in the footer of the Mumsnet website > consent pop-up appears. What have you pressed here? Accept and close or Reject all?

4: Those on iPhone or iPad, do you have 'private relay' turned on? You can check this by going to: device settings > [your name] > iCloud. It will say here if it is turned on.

Thanks again and our apologies for the time it's taking us here. It's a bit more complicated than we first anticipated.

I did semi solve this problem by deleting my history. It worked but this is not something I wanted to do. I have now lost quite a lot of things I wanted to keep, ie my longest run on wordle. I have been a member of another online forum for years longer than MN and I have never had this problem with this site.

LoobyDoop2 · 28/08/2024 17:48

Manchester, cookies accepted, private relay off.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2024 17:57

Southport, cookies accepted, private relay off.

PinkTonic · 28/08/2024 18:46

Cheltenham, cookies accepted, private relay off.

HideTheCroissants · 29/08/2024 19:45

It has been happening for me in London, Hampshire and Yorkshire. Cookies accepted. Private relay off.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/08/2024 10:11

I’m struggling to log in in the private site now.

KimberleyClark · 31/08/2024 10:36

Cardiff. Cookiesacceptrd. Not on ICloud+ so don’t have the private relaysetting.

Just upgraded to ICloud+. I’ll see if that solves the problem.

KimberleyClark · 01/09/2024 09:47

Don’t want to speak too soon, but Apple have just issued a software update - 17.6.1 - which seems to have helped. Anyone else updated and found this?

KimberleyClark · 01/09/2024 10:32

Spoke too soon it's still happening.

PinkTonic · 01/09/2024 11:53

I tried on my iPad this morning after the update installed and it immediately froze. I can’t open a thread at all anymore. No issues with any other site.
MN works on my phone but I really can’t be bothered other than checking in on this thread.

Snackpocket · 01/09/2024 11:57

I get this all the time. Load a thread, start reading then it crashes, reloads and takes me to the top of the thread. It just freezes mid thread. It seems to be all the massive adverts taking much longer to load than the rest of the page. It’s not an issue my end as it only happens on here.

ETA I also get the issue than this site drains my battery quicker than any other site too.

Multiple people have said the same thing. It’s the adverts. The amount and size are making the site very difficult to use, but clearly Mumsnet don’t want to admit that and have to change that as it they’ll lose money. I don’t think they care about the users.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 01/09/2024 17:44

Think it’s the adverts also. Load and then goes back to the top. Almost every time.

PinkTonic · 01/09/2024 20:26

It is something to do with the adverts but the problem is with adverts on this site only. Other sites have loads of adverts which load instantly without issue.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/09/2024 21:18

Mines updating tonight. I’ll see tomorrow.

I hardly use this site anymore now. It’s unusable and just can’t be bothered logging in every time in private.

Ar least it’s weaning me off. I’m starting to use Reddit a lot more. It’s much more lighthearted.

I’ve updated and it’s made no difference.

Same here. I hardly come on anymore as I can’t use it normally and logging on via private and getting kicked out regularly is a pain. So perhaps not a bad thing the site doesn’t work.

BabyOfMineAndYours · 02/09/2024 09:42

Just another poster completely fed up with the crashing and freezing - I thought it was my phone but knowing how unreliable mn tech has been recently I figured I would check site stuff to see if anyone else was having the same issue.

Iphone ios 17.6.1 mobile version on safari. Yes to clearing cache and cookies, no it hasnt worked.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 02/09/2024 10:22

The most annoying thing for me is when I wrote a long reply to a post and it freezes and reloads and I lose my post!
