Constantly crashing and freezing.

I keep giving up and when I go back into Safari, I just get a blank screen

Mumsnet is completely inoperable on my iPad today. Nothing will load, can’t scroll, stops, starts then gives up. Oddly, if I go to private browsing it’s slightly better.

I'm sure it's connected to the adverts. Mine keeps freezing again on the PC. There's a blank space underneath the word "advertisement" on the right of my screen and the top banner ad doesn't load.

My PC fan starts whirring like crazy and when I go into task manager, the CPU and memory use are both extremely high making the PC barely useable.

I have to use "end task" from task manager to close Google which makes the CPU and memory use drop back down to normal.

I have had the same problems as described for about 2-3weeks now.Crashing and freezing on my ipad but OK on my Samsung phone
What is the solution? I was starting to think nits was an ipad problem but actually think its musmsnet website .

Come on MNHQ this needs sorting.

I do most of my browsing on my laptop using Edge. When it freezes it kills everything - the mouse and the touch pad don't work, I can't access anything else. The only thing I can do is turn the laptop off at the big red switch and turn it on again. It then takes far longer to reboot than it does when I start it ordinarily.

When I restart it, the first couple of threads I look at are fine, but by the third or fourth it's had it. I try to remember to only look for a short time and then close MN down and go away.

This is not a trivial inconvenience. It's a serious software issue that needs identifying and fixing.

PS I don't use the show all setting but I do have it on 100 posts per page. And I don't see how seeing what's happening by sharing a screen will help. All you see is a screen that isn't going anywhere.

Started happening to me in the last week or so. Android/Chrome. Chrome stops responding (freezes, or cuts off the text of the post I am reading part-way through, followed by a lot of scrolling nothing) and needs restarting. I've changed no settings. Set to 25 messages per page. Oddly, having no trouble with this thread.

As pp have said when it freezes it takes out safari here for any page not just mn

the way i found around it on ios is to restart safari then it will work until it happens again but agree with everyone this is a huge problem

Samsung phone freezing. Mumsnet is again unusable. I have gone over to Reddit.

How do you restart safari? Do you mean just close all websites?

sorry, I should have explained better: you swipe up from the bottom in portrait mode until all the apps you have open are available to switch between and then once that happens you swipe safari off the screen to the top, that actually closes the app. then you reopen it using the safari symbol on your home screen. it will reopen whatever tabs you had open and then the page on mumsnet should be unfrozen.

This is making Mumsnet unusable for me for the last week or so now. Constantly freezing my browser (chrome). Very annoying! After about 5 minutes or so. Grrr etc. 😡

Same here .I can only look at MN on phone but not from Ipad .Using safari is now generally impossible to look at anything.

I really wish MN would sort this out, it's been going on for weeks now and it's so annoying!

Using chrome on a Samsung phone and the screen just freezes. I can't go back get off the page or anything until I get the Chrome is not responding message comes on.
Then I have to shut it down and start again.
Only ever happens when I'm using MN.

This has become a problem for me too - safari on iPhone. Freezes and have to close safari and reopen to be able to do anything.

Me too - am on IoS 17.7. it seems v slightly better on Edge than Safari but it’s marginal. You scroll for maybe 15 secs, or 2 or 3 posts and it freezes. And freezes the other websites you have open as well. It’s been going on for about a fortnight and is incredibly frustrating 🙄

On an iPhone SE 2020

It’s not just weeks, it’s been going on for months. It prompted me to buy a new iPad back in the summer - the old one was fine in many ways but couldn’t cope with MN and the MN issue affected other websites on Safari, for example the BBC, severely limiting Internet access.
It turned out that that wasn’t the case, though it’s less of a problem on the new one, possibly because I regularly shut down all applications, clear the history and restart the device, which seems to help.
It’s definitely a MN problem, and definitely ad related, the animated ads that appear mostly on the right (as an aside, why are the Max Mara ads so awful? I can’t imagine they prompt anyone to buy their drab, poorly fitting and weirdly styled clothing.)
If it weren’t for the Feminism boards, I’d not bother with MN at all.

Freezing constantly, I only use my phone for Mumsnet, Samsung, Chrome browser. Has been happening for about 5 weeks.

Unusable on safari, freezing about every three pages and freezing the whole browser. Better via chrome, still freezes but at least only the mumsnet tab. Far worse for me this week. Using a iPad.
