This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

For users who are still experiencing this, would you be able to join a call with our tech team? We're struggling to replicate it and we think it'd be really valuable for solving it.

I'm in Australia, so probably not much help with a call :)

Still happening, only my ipad, and only on chrome. Just locks and freezes on the first page

RufustheFactualReindeer · 30/09/2024 22:14

I am having the same problem

ipad on safari so i will give google a go

i should have checked on site stuff though….i thought it was my ipad so i bought a new one 😳

MNHQ owe me ££££ 😀

TipsyTiger · 02/10/2024 21:19

Well nobody got back to me re call with tech, so I’m guessing as this has been going on so long it’s not a priority. No other sites I use have as many tech issues as mn.

bookworm14 · 02/10/2024 21:21

I still can't access the site at all via the web browser - can only get in via the app. It's infuriating.

I did the same! New iPad.

However, it’s better in many ways so not a bad thing.

Couple of weeks ago,I cleared my history on my iPad and updated software to IPad OS18.0. Everything crossed, this seems to have sorted it.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 04/10/2024 19:50

I am so utterly sick of this wretched site constantly crashing, reloading and freezing, honestly so many people are complaining yet nothing is done it’s infuriating.

Papergirl1968 · 04/10/2024 20:54

Mine has been much better recently - until
this afternoon when it repeatedly crashed.

TheDogdidGood · 04/10/2024 22:12

I’ve just downloaded updated google chrome on iPad and it seems to be working now. Fingers crossed….

DontStopMe · 05/10/2024 09:54

I've just set up my new Mac and wow, this is bad in Safari. I can currently access it OK in a different browser.
@LilyMumsnet, if you're still looking for someone to share info, I too am happy to help. If have software development experience, so happy to dig about in logs, sample processes, etc. From what I can see, the site is getting bogged down updating the local database.

HebeMumsnet · 07/10/2024 10:35

Hi there @TipsyTiger ! We're so sorry - we didn't spot your email! Or did you DM one of us? Either way, we would love to talk to you. Can we ask you first what device and browser you are on, how long the issue has been going on, and if it's any particular thread that's a problem. And also if you have cleared your cache and cookies?

If you can let us know those details here, we'll get someone from Tech to drop you a line and arrange a call.

@DontStopMe - if you're also willing to have a chat with someone here we'd be most grateful. If you could post the anwers to the questions above too, we'll be in touch to arrange a convenient time for a call.

Thank you, both Flowers

DontStopMe · 07/10/2024 12:17

Hi @HebeMumsnet , I've tried what you suggested, and currently seem to be running OK 😀

I'm on a 2023 Mac Mini running Sonoma 14.6, Safari Version 17.6 (19618.3.11.11.5)
I tried clear cache and that didn't help at all. Once the hanging had cleared, I removed the cookies, went back to Mumsnet on Safari without enabling cookies, and all was well. I have re-enabled cookies now, and it still seems OK so far.

I've only been on this Mac a few days: I imported my user data from an older Mac Mini (late 2012), Safari 15.6.1 which had a variety of different problems but didn't hang in the same way.

I'm happy to have a chat if there's anything I can help with.

PinkDreamer · 12/10/2024 21:08

Thankfully the site seems to be running as normal on safari now for me

Jigsawpuzzled · 13/10/2024 14:16

I've had issues with an ad for the last couple of days (android, chrome) where it freezes and I can't scroll. I can't even see the ad it's just a broken link that I can't scroll past! Anyone else had similar?

HebeMumsnet · 14/10/2024 09:41

Good news @DontStopMe and @PinkDreamer . Long may it continue! Do get in touch again if any further problems.

@Jigsawpuzzled - Thanks for getting in touch. If this happens again do you think you could get a screenshot for us? If you are able to click on the ad and get us a url too that would be even better. Thank you!

borntobequiet · 14/10/2024 09:44

There’s a horrible great big ad for Nespresso or something (bright red) that’s now popping up and taking over the screen (on Safari).

I'm on regular Chrome on my laptop and the Nespresso advert is taking over my entire screen too and you have to wait a second or two before you can close it. Very irritating!

g1c2d3 · 16/10/2024 08:56

I also continue to have problems with the site on my iPad - it doesn’t load properly, just freezes. It is a very frustrating situation as it has been going on for weeks. Initially I thought it was my iPad but realised it was actually Mumsnet that was the problem. If I have it opened by some miracle, it affects the performance of Safari so unless I close it and reboot the device nothing happens on other sites I have already opened as well. I will not use Mumsnet for much longer if the problem is not resolved as I simply have not got the time to waste.

DontStopMe · 16/10/2024 09:30

@g1c2d3
I don't have an iPad to check this on, but clearing all the cookies and related website data for Mumsnet on Safari on my Mac worked for me.

My previous workaround was to use a different browser.

To clear the local Safari data, go to
Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, then select Remove All Website data

Or to clear Mumsnet only, load Mumsnet in Safari (if you can....), scroll to the bottom, select Privacy Settings and Reject All.

Hope this helps.

HebeMumsnet · 16/10/2024 09:38

Thanks @DontStopMe . That's a useful summary and will hopefully help out @g1c2d3 .

Those of you seeing a large Nespresso ad - we'll look for this now. If anyone sees it again and can click on it and send us the url that will speed things up a bit, or a screenshot would help a bit too so we can see what the problem is. If it's able to be closed it might be that it's behaving as it should but we'll happily take a look.

g1c2d3 · 16/10/2024 09:42

@DontStopMe , thank you for taking the time to help. I will try both your suggestions and hopefully, they will solve the problems I am having with the site.

g1c2d3 · 16/10/2024 10:50

@DontStopMe , I followed your suggestions and the site seems to be performing better, so thank you very much for your help.

DontStopMe · 16/10/2024 11:21

Glad I could help - hope it keeps working well for you.

DontStopMe · 16/10/2024 11:39

I've been having a look at the release notes for macOS updates. Sequoia 15.0.1 includes this for Safari, which might help with the Nespresso ads.
