Can you please pull the thread ? It's turning into Nicola bully all over again. Alot of people are being sincere but there are some absolutely awful comments and I am shocked it is still standing.
Some people are really getting kicks out of this horrible situation, this lad has a family.
Armchair detectives, trolls etc it really needs to go Mumsnet.

@Paul2023 Yet you took some time to do some internet searching on him? Alright then

About 5 seconds on a google search. Because he’s been in the media recently, it’s an ongoing case. Hardly lots of time. It comp on my Twitter , I wasn’t even researching him.
It didn’t take much effort to see his past, it’s widely publicised.

Port1aCastis · 25/06/2024 07:05

Don't think the internet sleuthing helps apart from trying to stir the pot and be edgy. The fact remains a young man is still missing and his family are in distress. No matter what Google says or speculates on the family going through hell at the moment and I certainly wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
When Nicola Bulley was missing the ghouls and vultures were out in full force, so much so that her family pleaded for the vile people too stop as all their actions were hampering the investigation.
Anyway I'm going to work, haven't got time to be on here all day

Appears the kid was previously convicted for dealings with violent crime and class A hard drugs. The disappearing off with two random men sounds less out of character in the context of this information. The mother is involved with a gofundme page not... sure what is being funded though.

The family are allegedly trying to withdraw some of the money, to fund accommodation, flights, and get more family and friends out there to search, and support each other.

WhatAFaffyFiasco · 27/06/2024 12:45

I don't think any speculation helps, nobody knows what happened. I don't wish anything bad, he is just a kid, and a product of his environment it seems.
The punishment for Jay Slater, and his friends assaulting that other boy should have been more than a slap on th3 wrist imo. They should all be in prison right now.
Hopefully they will find out the full story soon. I know alot of comparisons have been made to nicola bully, but she wasn't a convicted criminal involved with gangs, and drugs. Hopefully it is some sort of ransom situation, for the sake of his Mother, and family.

Does make you wonder if people would still have donated if in full knowledge that the innocent teenage lad on his first trip abroad turns out to have been a convicted drug/GBH offender with previous. Maybe why they are trying to withdraw it quick. Drugs are a murky world and I pray my DS never gets involved in anything like this. I think this kid was in over his head and unfortunately I'll be very surprised if they find him alive now after a week. It's very sad for the family, everyone was someone's baby once afterall, no matter what choices they make in later life.

Exactly, it doesn't sound good. Whatever the money is for, it is a terrible predicament for the family. I think so. A lot of the donations were made early on, and I don't think many knew the background at that point. Some still don't. Regardless, I hope for the best outcome possible, even though it looks unlikely after a week. Being so young, he could take the opportunity to reform himself and be a better person going forward. It looks really unlikely given the situation though, very sad for any young life.

IamaRevenant · 27/06/2024 13:58

Even the lad who was hurt by him has spoken out and asked for respect for Jay's family. Bit shit when a 17 year old has more respect than a load of (presumably) grown adults

IamaRevenant · 27/06/2024 14:12

My friend (from childhood) went missing overseas. He was no angel to put it lightly (drug dealing mainly). The pain we all went through and particularly his poor mum was unreal. His mum was destroyed. The search went on for weeks until the inevitable was found. I hope Jay has a better outcome and I hope if not that his family has some comfort in the fact people cared.

Anyway this thread is going the way of the other and is a bit close to the bone for me so I'm stepping away.

Just heard that the search for Jay Slater has been called off.
Very sad for his family.

It does seem very strange that there’s been absolutely no sign of him despite the searches. I do wonder if he’s even on the island?

Poolstream · 30/06/2024 18:14

Hoe would he leave Tenerife without tgd authorities knowing?

Although i managed, 3 years ago, to fly from Leeds to Limoges without my passport checked by anyone before i boarded the plane.

That’s highly unusual and I’m sure you know it.

CosFuckThatGuy · 01/07/2024 10:09

Why would he have left? It's vastly vastly more likely he went off the road and is hidden by trees and bushes somewhere.

They have searched with drones, dogs, and many experts over many days, and extensive terrain, if he was there th4 odds are he would have been found. Whilst it is feasible he is there, I’m fairly sure they know more than they are saying and suspect he isn’t.

also if he is there, he will be dead and they can’t continue to focus all their resources on one man, they have many other priorities.

vacay · 01/07/2024 21:44

I do think it's very strange not one trace of Jay has been found, considering the search started almost immediately.
Feeling very sad for his family and friends
