Why did the "Lisa Johnson One to Many" thread get deleted?

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 19/03/2024 18:26

I've seen the deletion message but don't understand why the comments that broke talk guidelines couldn't have been deleted and the rest of the thread left to stand.

Lisa Johnson claims that she had it removed because she put pressure on MN to do so.

Can anyone from MNHQ clarify please?

And to address the ‘retreat’ reference, for every large firm I’ve worked for (legal and management consulting ) I’ve been on retreats.

IncompleteSenten · 27/03/2024 08:51

So her business is for the most part teaching people how to 'coach' people how to run businesses?

And those who do her courses can either 'coach' people how to run businesses or teach people how to 'coach' people how to run businesses?

And those who do the courses by someone who did her courses can either 'coach' people how to run businesses or teach people how to 'coach' people how to run businesses?

And CPD is not to be confused with CIPD?

Axx · 27/03/2024 09:00

MLM is hated on here, you'll not find many folks defending that business model on here.

It's shite. There's been numerous threads over the years exposing them and saving others from falling for them.

Also, all this coach talk is making me think of Dave's coaches. He was always one of my favourite characters.

No. It’s not. At all.

Really? Was the website the wrong one?

So she does not coach people how to run businesses then? And she does not run courses teaching people how to be business coaches?

And people who do her courses don't go on to either be business coaches or teach others how to be business coaches?

What does she do then?
Is there a different website? Maybe I was looking at the wrong one.

www.thatstrategyco.com She doesn't have a single course on there teaching people to be a 'business coach'.

Yes she does.

  • *You could have a 1:1 business, where you selling premium coaching or consulting, such as a package of 6 1:1 calls over six weeks.
  • You could offer VIP days, where you offer an intensive one-day session either in-person or virtually for 4-6 hours.
  • You could offer a mastermind, where you have a coaching group with coaching calls, community, and chat.
  • You could have high level retreats.*

To be fair, that poster didn't say it was an MLM business model. They said the content/strategy raised MLM feelings. As someone who had never heard of the company this thread is about until this thread, I actually agree with them. There does seem to be similar vibes and circularity in these coaches coaching coaches scenes and MLM.

As a complete outsider, the fact someone very defensive about this coaches coaching coaches industry is also presenting MLM as a viable and reputable business (when the vast majority of people lose money and those who make money do so knowing they're rinsing others for all they can) is very interesting.

That doesn't teach people to become coaches. It teaches how to implement a high ticket business model and selling high ticket offerings.

You what?

where you selling premium coaching

where you have a coaching group with coaching calls

Also, most of the people quoted on Lisa's many various course pages are coaches of one type or another, even if they call themselves "consultants" or "business strategists". It's easy to see, once you lean to read between the lines.

They're also nearly all affiliates for Lisa Johnson's courses.

A business coach and a business strategist are two different things.

Are they?

They sound very much the same thing to me.

And don't try to defend MLMs on here. Whether the LJ model of teaching coaching courses in coaching other people on how to coach other people who learn how to coach people is an MLM or not, it doesn't sound terribly appealing.

Or useful.

MLMs prey on the gullible. Only the very powerful people at the top get rich. The others at the bottom just scrabble about, trying to work out where they're going wrong, and losing money hand over fist. MLMs are not an admirable business model at all.

Note that I'm not saying LJ is an MLM. I'm simply saying that MLMs are indefensible.

I guess if you don't work in the industry or the online space you wouldn't know the difference. That's ok. It would be like me commenting on an industry I have no experience in x

Lisa Johnson is very proud of her article on the Forbes website. Here's what it says:

Her vision is to change the business coaching industry

Lisa rightly makes the point, "How many Netflix documentaries do we need about the coaching industry being bad before we do something about it?"

Coaching industry, see? Not "business strategist industry".

And then, weirdly, she says this:

you won’t see me hanging out with all the 7 figure and 8 figure entrepreneurs that everyone else does at the same old retreats and things. I choose to put my children over doing that.

I guess it's different now she's the one making the money from running a retreat 😁

So - semantics, basically.

Fair enough. It's quite clear what the business model is, however it's described.

I have experience in both the online and offline world. In various industries. However, very much like yourself and other users, I will keep my business and therefore my identify anonymous, as the platform permits :)
