Has anyone noticed how bitter people are here lol

You ask a simple question and you get really weird responses, but I suppose that’s just the internet in general. I wonder if other people have noticed it. Also most things here involve people getting cheated on which I personally don’t like to read about (I know nobody asked lol)
bonus points if you call me a snowflake 😉 I wish we had better camaraderie between women but I’m so disappointed by answers I’ve been getting. Irrelevant stuff just to be bitchy (feels like)

7 out of 10 times i get quoted on about my typing.
Always something about my grammar.
Im not the only one someone the other day got told to (learn to type a fucking sentence properly).
Its mumsnet and no one can see them so they can be as rude as they like.
The thing i see the most is cheating but the advice is always the same .
If he cheats she is to leave if she cheats shes to say nothing.
But after a few years you soon come to see that most threads are fake dont believe all you read.

BIWI · 23/02/2024 21:30

You've been here for 5 minutes @Annymania

Perhaps have a read around more of the topics before you come to this/these conclusion(s)?

ReadingLight · 23/02/2024 21:33

I think you might have misunderstood the purpose of the internet.

Zoobi · 23/02/2024 21:34

I've noticed that people will often deliberately point out the worst in others on MN. So if someone is relaying something in a post, and there is one small aspect of the story in which they were in the wrong, people will pounce on that and tear them to pieces.
Another thing I've noticed is that people tend to copy the opinions of the first few commenters. In real life, people have a very wide range of views. On MN, people read the first few comments and almost copy and paste them, so it ends up with like 300 comments, 85% of which are saying the same thing.
Personally I think they need to make is impossible to change your vote on AIBU. Once you've clicked, you shouldn't be allowed to change your vote just because you've been influenced by the majority.

NancyDrooo · 23/02/2024 21:35

I think more people than ever are pissed off with the world and unhappy with life; it’s generally been a rough few years. Unfortunately, kicking others makes them feel… maybe not better, but also not worse about themselves.

It’s sad to see but we’ve all been spikier when in a bad mood, just try to think behind every bitter comment is probably someone feeling sad / angry / lonely.

lightand · 23/02/2024 21:36

Everyone notices it, all of the time, op.

AIBU worst. I am sure other posters who post here more regularly, can tell of next worst topics.
Step parenting perhaps.

Zoobi · 23/02/2024 21:36

Also the disingenuousness of so many commenters annoys me... "Surely you know this, OP?" "If you have a problem with a neighbour you should knock on their door and speak to them. Surely you've already done this?"

lightand · 23/02/2024 21:38

And beware of the posters who will claim that you are wrong.

People have different standards of how they think posts should be.

Why do you think most posts are fake as opposed to some?

stayathomer · 23/02/2024 21:45

I Think it’s luck though, you can have a group of helpful people post and help out, or you can have someone who seems to be in a foul humour jump on and go for the attack, and then others jump on too. Mn has saved me- I had horrific rosacea and I got recommendations here that made me feel human when my skin was literally burning, I’ve also picked up cleaning tips. The positives have pretty much outweighed the negatives

Annymania · 23/02/2024 21:48

You’ve all been very nice (wow jk) yes of course there are lots of normal people left in the world! I agree it’s easy to ‘hide’ behind a screen and I’m sure a lot of people are having a bad day. Everything is expensive, we don’t have much time to ourselves, etc I get it. And I totally agree with @Zoobi , I asked for opinion on girls names and made the huge mistake of saying we’re trying for a girl 🤦‍♀️ I don’t think it’s that bad and I’m sure people get what I mean (we have a boy already) but obviously that’s all they saw and all I got was ‘what’s if it’s a boy you’re ridiculous it’s a baby not a game blablabla’ put me in such a bad mood. It’s just bitter people who hate their lives. I kind of do too sometimes so I get it. Nothing personal.

I mean this politely but how exactly do you try for a girl?

Lol I don’t know! 🤦‍♀️😂 I should have said ‘we’re trying for our second and have a boys name but not a girl’ but obviously I buggered it up and people love that! It would be horrible if you could actually choose the baby’s sex though. Then they’d choose its eye colour etc. how dystopian

To me it's obvious. She means that they're having another baby, and if she gets pregnant there is a chance it will be a girl, which would be nice. If it's a boy that's fine too. Once the hypothetical boy is here they will be happy nonetheless. But would be nice if it was a girl as the first is a boy.

BIWI · 23/02/2024 21:56

But someone just disagreeing with you isn't being 'bitter'!

Annymania · 23/02/2024 21:58

Honestly if we were guaranteed a boy we’d probably still do it. I feel like everyone on that post blew it out of proportion and I’m some weird eugenics person. I just didn’t expect so much backlash on one of my first posts. Harsh welcome lol I’m getting used to it. That’s the real world and @ReadingLight is so right

of course but it’s wasn’t disagreeing, it was ignoring my question to pick apart something else I wrote. It was just weird. I see it on other posts too. Someone says ‘I don’t like the name Harry’ (for example) and someone feels the need to write ‘then don’t call your child that 🤦‍♀️😴’ like just say nothing at all instead of something useless and just mean spirited for the sake of it.

I love the site generally, but the other day, I accidentally posted on one of the feminism boards. Holy shit that is a hostile area. Do not post there if you are not a regular.

I’m cringing so hard for you my toes curled. lol.

You do need a bit of a thick skin to post on internet forums. We get one of these threads at least once a week. Usually from newbies.

We also have a lot of MRAs and other trolls. You have to learn to ignore blatant goading if you post a thread.

Annymania · 23/02/2024 22:07

Just got another one! You know when someone knows exactly what you mean and they act like they don’t?
Poking holes into everything you say to make you wrong.
for example ‘I have to hide vegetables in my sons minced meat so he eats them lol’
’why do you hide them that’s so dishonest also where is the proof that your son doesn’t like vegetables that’s a stereotype’ like come onnn! You know what I mean! I know you know! Stop being difficult.
turns out I’m having as bad a day as them so I know this is all very hypocritical. At least I can admit it.

Totally agree, it’s a shock at first.
especially as someone who doesn’t know much about technology, has no social media etc, it’s nothing like real life 😂
I suppose you get used to it when you know what to expect 👍

There are various things you can do to tip the balance in terms of having a girl or a boy. It's so long since I've been pregnant I've forgotten, but timing sex according to your cycle is a thing, I do remember that much!

Posters are so rude, so dismissive and downright nasty. I would never post a thread to be picked over by the vultures.

HiveSentinelApis · 23/02/2024 22:21

its certainly odd at times, what happened to respect and good debates etc

PoliteTurtle · 23/02/2024 22:25

Yeah this website brings the worst out of some… I’ve found that and I’m a newbie too!
