"boomer" thread

You've hidden this evening's offensive, ageist thread, stereotyping "boomers". Will this be deleted? Can we have a robust response to ageism on MN?

posters quite often take the fact that their post wasn't deleted as validation that they didn't say anything wrong.

This! Which is why some posters are able to nip in and out of multiple threads spreading their bigotry and picking up and enabling more followers along the way. Not just ageists, but the amount of white supremacists on here that are just left to do their racist thing is outrageous.

sunglassesonthetable · 31/08/2023 09:12

The other issue when MN refuse to delete posts with isms is that the posters quite often take the fact that their post wasn't deleted as validation that they didn't say anything wrong. This then renders any challenge useless on the thread

This

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 31/08/2023 09:18

Agree.

As I've said, I called out a poster (who, under that username, ONLY posts ageism all over MN) I was deleted. The ageism is still there.

BellaBellla · 31/08/2023 09:35

@TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon If it's the same one I'm thinking of, you can set your watch to her turning up on any thread like this, and even on threads with the loosest of connections to the elderly, she somehow she manages to shoehorn in her bile. Even if you try and offer support towards her own financially constrained circumstances (because it's obviously never her fault) she just spits back. It just makes MN an unpleasant experience.

IClaudine · 31/08/2023 09:48

Be careful. We don't want to give MNHQ an excuse to delete the thread.

BIWI · 31/08/2023 10:01

What, you mean the thread that they're steadfastly ignoring, @IClaudine?!

IClaudine · 31/08/2023 10:06

Well, true BIWI!

TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon · 31/08/2023 10:10

Nah. They'll let us whinge away till the thread is full and hope we'll go away.

We could have a part two!

jeffgoldblum · 31/08/2023 10:14

Do I want to see the " lucky mortgage " thread ?
Or will it raise my blood pressure?

It was OK until midnight last night when I went to bed. 😂

It was more hitting on people with money rather than old people with money (apart from the one comment upthread) There was a cunt being vile to a poster who said she'd inherited her mother's house but would rather have her mother back. She was accused of lying.

IClaudine · 31/08/2023 10:11

Well, we've been given the heady responsibility of moderating ageism, so I think we need one!

jeffgoldblum · 31/08/2023 10:46

Ahh thanks @TheLongGloriesOfTheWinterMoon for the synopsis, saves me from reading and getting irritated! 🤣

Maireas · 31/08/2023 11:09

I think we should have a part two, and continue to monitor and challenge ageism.

Definitely.

Can we have a badge?

Maybe that awful "boomer" emoji created by that poster upthread 😂

I've just done a bit of challenging on a couple of other threads. One suggestion about older people being less tolerant of children when on holiday. So it continues......

💥Is this it?

Maireas · 31/08/2023 12:06

That's the one 😂!

Wear it with pride! 💥

I found it in the emojis in the section marked with a heart.

sunglassesonthetable · 31/08/2023 12:15

My 82 year old mother and her 75 year friend were delayed in Paris by all the flight hoo ha on Monday.

Mum slept in a chair with her head on a table and her friend on the floor. It was chaos apparently. They are trashed tbh.

My Mum said to me " it's the ones with little children I feel so sorry for ...."

So kind. Putting this on the wrong thread clearly, but cba find the other one.

sunglassesonthetable · 31/08/2023 12:17

Jus notice lots of somebody's comments have been zapped.

You know, after they were so reasonable, in the face of boomer nastiness 😁💥

Maireas · 31/08/2023 12:19

@sunglassesonthetable - your Mum sounds lovely, I hope that her and her friend are ok.

Yay! Are we a proper MN quiche?

I've ventured into fat monitoring as well. On the feral kids thread somebody has said the Brits she's seen abroad weren't the most feral or the fattest.

I didn't realise being overweight equalled having feral children. God help the poster if she has to deal with fat old people. With houses.
