There is a concerning growth of posts with racist undertones cropping up on these boards, all under the guise of being proudly 'anti-woke'.

Apparently diversity is 'woke' and worthy of derision.

This is the thread I'm referring to here.

Disney went woke now they're going broke www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4836570-disney-went-woke-now-theyre-going-broke

Mumsnet needs to looks at why that board draws such types of posts, and why posters feel so comfortable openly airing their racism.

Why has this thread been derailed off topic (which was race) by LGBTQ+ Issues?

Proves OP's point.

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 07:55

@AlisonDonut no it was not. It was a lesbian couple who had a baby with sperm donated through a clinic.
I have never heard anything so daft as an accusation that a lesbian is trying to steal spermicide from a man.
For your information most lesbians either have a friend donate or go to a clinic.

Lndnmummy · 02/07/2023 07:56

@MNHQ could you ensure you are as active to clamp down on 'anti wokeness' as you are on Karen?

Thanks

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 07:57

@MargotBamborough i think those who are feminist and gender abolitionists are vanishingly small in number. The whole topic has become a right wing cause taken up by the kind of people who would have supported section 28. It is very depressing.

Lndnmummy · 02/07/2023 07:57

KarensManager · 01/07/2023 12:37

I may start reporting every post with woke as a pejorative. If we all did that, those posts can be removed and let's see what word they come up with instead of co-opting a word.

Agree. I will too. And I am really sorry you are managing a Karen.

Try discussing racism anywhere on MN. It always gets shut down.
There is a lot of racism on FWR and yet many posters there claim they have never seen any racist comments.

pues · 02/07/2023 08:01

In my experience the women on FWR are the most intelligent and articulate on MN.

I would disagree with this. There is nothing right wing about me, except apparently of recent years my belief that you can’t change sex, and that sex is very relevant in many areas. And many many women on the fwr think the same. Calling us right wing is just trying to shut us up instead of addressing the topics. Just like all the people on the internet howling ‘you think men shouldn’t be in women’s prisons- THAT MAKES YOU A NAZI!’ It’s a very unpleasant complete failure of rational thought.

I’d say you’re wrong on this.

If someone posts you can’t change sex it’s a fact not a political alliance

In actual fact the vast majority of posters on FWR robustly support lesbian women (or are lesbian women themselves) and gay men.

Must be tricky enough. Not sure if the user name violates MN policy. But fear not - we don't like informers where I live !

It must have been a different discussion, but nobody has the right to another human's eggs, sperm or body. No matter their sexual orientation which is why it is not homophobic to point it out. Should these clinics even be legal?

Women who want sperm but are opposed to surrogacy are hypocrites. And surrogacy is a vile practice. Again, doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is, it is vile.

Saying this is often taken as homophobic, hence the shrieks of homophobia. Which is the point I am making about the shrieks of homophobia that people make, and the accusations that follow from that.

'vanishingly small'

Yet big enough to be a huge problem on a tiny chat section of a predominantly female chat forum.

Make your mind up!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/07/2023 08:14

Why has this thread been derailed off topic (which was race) by LGBTQ+ Issues?

Proves OP's point.

It was derailed in the very first comment - by a poster agreeing with the OP.

The OP has called out racism in a few places (good for her/him) and notably in chat.

Odd that the OP does not think that chat needs the heavier hand of the mods.

In fact, if I was going to mod heavier on racism I'd be searching for any RF thread and especially those involving Meghan Markle.

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 08:18

Spermicide was an unfortunate auto correct.

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 08:20

@YetAnotherSpartacus strange so many support the banning of sperm donation to lesbians and say things like I don't care who people have sex with as long as they keep it in the bedroom.

Why is this strange?

Is it the banning of sperm dontation to lesbians, or stating that people do not have a right to the sperm of another human? Do you even understand the two contexts of the positions and why it matters?

Why has this thread been derailed off topic (which was race) by LGBTQ+ Issues?

Proves OP's point.

Well a few of us have asked for examples of Islamophobia on FWR and we are still waiting.

I have seen quite a lot of discussion about how trans activism is not inclusive of women from minority religions including Muslim women. There is a current thread by a poster who is trying to engage with her employer (a university) about single sex toilets and it is clear that the DEI officer is only interested in one type of diversity and inclusion. Can you guess which one?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/07/2023 08:34

strange so many support the banning of sperm donation to lesbians and say things like I don't care who people have sex with as long as they keep it in the bedroom.

I haven't actually seen any evidence for the connection between these two positions.

FWIW I think that sperm donation and surrogacy are two vastly different issues with vastly different impacts.

I'm personally much more opposed to surrogacy but I also have deep reservations about anonymously donated sperm that is part of the infertility industry.

I suspect that my own position differs from that of many FWR posters and that there is a lot of nuance around the issue.

The thing is though that it is an issue in its own right and deserves a proper debate and not a 'gotcha' to throw casually as part of a different debate.

What are you basing that on?

Every time I click to view the comments underneath an article about JK Rowling in my Facebook news feed it is full of people expressing their support and admiration for her and their disgust at the behaviour of trans activists.

If that's not compelling evidence for you, the YouGov surveys about trans rights are very telling. It's clear that the belief that trans women are actually women is only shared by a minority of people.

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 08:36

The Islamophobia is posters who go on about Muslim grooming gangs and totally ignore other grooming gangs like the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church was majorly implicated in the recent six year child abuse enquiry as facilitating and covering up sexual abuse of children. You would t know it if you read FWR.

The only discussion I have seen about grooming on FWR isn't in relation to religions at all, but about the behaviour of adults who encourage children to believe they can change sex and to keep secrets from their parents.

Many thanks, I am in rural France so might have missed it as my internet is intermittent at the moment.

I'm in France too, maybe what we're seeing is completely different to what everyone else is seeing!
