Moderation Sex Board

onirgellep · 13/04/2023 23:06

Back in February Justine* committed to an urgent review of moderation of the Sex Board subsequent to the considerable concerns mainly arising from the longstanding Sex Chat thread

Unsurprisingly, issues continue

Would it be possible to have an update on the progress of the review?

And hear when do you anticipate it being completed and the new moderation put into action?

Thank you

I'm afraid I'm unable to link Justine's post on the thread References to Underage Sex on the Sex Board* page 13

we'd be grateful if this thread could remain about policy, rather than personal comments about individual posters.

What further clarification do you need?

Out of interest, was that comment sent to you when a comment you made was deleted?

Surplus2requirements · 15/04/2023 18:04

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 17:59

I have reported my comment and asked MNHQ to confirm one way or another what is allowed.

I find it staggering that a request to direct to other sleazy sex chat sites on the internet would not be allowed to be challenged on any thread on mumsnet and have asked MNHQ to confirm.

I challenge racist opinions. I challenge ableist opinions. I challenge sexist opinions. For example. I also report. And have, on numerous occasions, been told that MNHQ are not going to delete the comment but please challenge it on the thread. Which I then have done.

It is worrying to me that this cannot be done on this thread, especially given the subject matter and the request for sleazy sex sites.

With respect I think you're taking it far to seriously.
It read to me as a light hearted response to the many many other posts saying there are so many other places to go

Yesterday? Erm.... no, because mumsnet only said it today 🤷🏼‍♀️ What are you talking about?

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 18:06

@Surplus2requirements with respect that's not how I read it.

Perhaps you'd like to suggest a suitable alternative site for people like that to go to then?

I wouldn't know, having never used any for such purposes.

horridjobescapee · 15/04/2023 18:12

@everywhichway can't you use google?

So why did you ask for suggestions then? And why do you specifically need suggestions from women of mumsnet?

So your earlier post asking me to recommend sex sites to you was not a genuine post then?

Mermaidparades · 15/04/2023 18:24

@Bamboux rhetorical question, remember?

StraightOuttaContext · 15/04/2023 18:37

I don't understand the purpose of the rhetorical question @everywhichway I'm not being goady, I genuinely don't get it. You're under zero obligation to explain but it would help my tired brain if someone did lol!

Bamboux · 15/04/2023 18:37

I see someone managed to get my post deleted for expressing the apparently verboten opinion that men don't get to tell women that we should lighten up and not mind sexual harassment. Interesting moderation choice.

Well done. You must be very proud.

Bamboux · 15/04/2023 18:47

Right, I'll leave you to it. I've got a real life to get back to.

Congratulations, guys. I hope this thread is left to stand. Even with the deletions, it's enlightening.

You’re a man, so was the person who asked for suggestions of sex sites.

You are minimising a comment that would make many women feel uncomfortable coming from a man especially. And if you don’t understand why that question would feel different for a woman, you should try to think why.

LangClegsInSpace · 15/04/2023 19:53

It's incomprehensible to me that Mumsnet are championing an amendment to the Online Safety Bill which, if it was passed, would likely put them on the wrong side of the law - because of their lax attitude to managing the sex topic.

Unlike other sensitive areas of the site, the sex topic is optimised for google (because of course it is Hmm) so a search for 'mumsnet sex topic' will take you straight there. You can read everything that is written there without even logging in.

To create an account, all you need is a throwaway email address. No age verification of any kind.

You have to wait a paltry 7 days before you can post on the topic but meanwhile there is nothing to stop you from reading threads and PMing other posters.

What makes you think you won't be subject to the user-to-user rules in the amendment you are championing? What makes you think you shouldn't be?

I had not thought of that, but of course it is obvious. Once you're signed up you can PM anybody.
I hope MNHQ is really paying attention.
It's appalling.

It was brought up as a concern on the now deleted threads.

Mumsnets response was to report unwanted PMs. 🤔

The sex people told posters to turn off their PMs. 🧐
