How to change inappropriate adverts?

I’m so fed up with constantly seeing IVF and pregnancy adverts on mumsnet. I have to scroll past them every time I use the site.

I can’t be the only one who’s had failed IVF and miscarriage.

What do I need to do to make them go away permanently without subscribing to mumsnet? I’m happy to be spammed with other less triggering adverts 😩

I’d love to be able to stop specific adverts.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 22/03/2023 12:16

Yeah, same! Infertility/IVF and multiple miscarriages means a pregnancy bump or baby pic is really upsetting, a physical jolt of pain. I’m here for the infertility boards so don't see why these ads should torment me.

Iusedtobedontcall · 22/03/2023 12:17

The Down’s syndrome one is really really upsetting and triggering for me as I had a TFMR for Trisomy 21 last month and the ad seems to taunt me.

Hello @St3amtrain we're so sorry that you've been upset by some ads. Can we check if you're seeing Google choices ads? You'll know it's one of those if there's an x in the top right corner. If you click on this x then you shouldn't see ads from that campaign again. If you think an ad is unsuitable for a particular board, please let us know. Thank you.

@Iusedtobedontcall that ad should no longer be showing. Have you seen it recently? We're sorry that you've been upset.

Iusedtobedontcall · 22/03/2023 13:38

I have seen it yesterday but not today so great news if it’s gone.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 22/03/2023 13:43

@Iusedtobedontcall I'm presuming we're talking about the same ad! If you see it again, please send us a screenshot either on here or to contactus@mumsnet.com along with the URL of the page you saw it on. Thank you.

St3amtrain · 22/03/2023 15:22

I’m on my iPhone. I can’t see an X in the top right corner to click on.

Hi OP

These are actually our own videos that run on a carousel - is the one in the screenshot about IVF?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 22/03/2023 16:26

Still showing for me! I don’t want to see this!

I am getting IVF, pregnancy, back pain in pregnancy. Almost all are pregnancy/IVF related 😩
I would really like to opt out of these subjects somehow as it’s fairly distressing. Almost every time I’m on mumsnet, a large pregnant stomach greets me and fills most of my iPhone screen.
I can cope with random trying to sell me products.

Please make it stop! 😱😡

I've been reading mumsnet for years but just signed up today in order to comment on this post. I am constantly seeing these adverts despite selecting to remove them. They are inappropriate, insensitive, triggering and on every post.

St3amtrain · 25/03/2023 14:20

@mumsnet Why is this happening now? What’s your solution? This is supposed to be a supportive safe space, not triggering?

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 25/03/2023 15:53

@St3amtrain we are genuinely sorry when MNers are upset by adverts and have taken steps so that certain boards have additional sensitivity filters (you shouldn't see ads like this on Pregnancy choices, for example). As for the rest of the site, it's difficult for us to have a blanket policy of no ads about pregnancy and IVF/baby equipment as this will be relevant to a significant number of our users.

If you're seeing ads on a part of the site where you think they shouldn't be, then please let us know. We'll also have a further discussion about the videos in our carousel and the frequency they appear.

Fruity88 · 25/03/2023 16:15

@mumsnet if I select to delete the advert I don't expect it to come back on the very next page I browse telling me I should consider IVF yet again, it is on every new page load. If you are saying that you are not going to restrict these triggering adverts then this site is not the place for those having gone through miscarriage, infertility struggles and is not the supportive forum I thought it was.

What she said!

Fruity88 · 23/04/2023 07:56

@mumsnet If I delete the adverts it shouldn't keep coming back with the same triggering content. You've ignored all comments on this thread and taken no action as a consequence.

St3amtrain · 23/04/2023 10:44

Yes agree. And you expect us to accept it as “they’re not adverts” when they have the heading “advert” above them. @mumsnet Oh so that’s ok then? I’m no longer triggered.

It’s very much an option to ask to see less of a triggering subject on other websites.

OP posts:
St3amtrain · 23/04/2023 10:47

No. Not an advert. Ignore the word “advertisement” above it. And no it doesn’t fill up my entire screen on my iPhone every time I scroll.

Ffs, They're even appearing on this thread!

SoupDragon · 23/04/2023 10:57

Realistically, it's fundamentally a parenting site so there will be ads that upset those who are struggling with fertility in some way.

on the other hand, there is the "Ad Block Plus" app which zaps the lot.
