Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

They'll either be in the midst of squeaky bum meetings with the shrek's ear company or else the end of the promotion is in sight and they're hoping they can delay and ride it out without making any decisions.

This. Sorry MNHQ, I do appreciate what you do but I pay for the service so I'm a customer too!

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2023 20:56

I don't pay and I'm aware that I'm the product.

It's very short term thinking for a business to not look after their product though. I'm always reminded of this:

I'm not sure they need to worry about jeopardising sales, I doubt anyone is actually buying a MN vibrator. 🤣 Even those who might be in the market for one are going to look for something a little more stimulating than Shrek's ear 😂

Yes, the whole promotion was terrible!

A vibrator for 'people with vulvas', the little baby bottles instead of bullet points, the creepy appeal to new mothers who mostly just want sleep, the whole shrek's eariness of it 😬

I've had sexier ingrown toenails TBH.

AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace · 21/02/2023 21:11

Yes, a really hideous promotion nestled among newly prominent thread titles about rimming and fleshlights - I can't understand how it could fail to get everyone in the mood 🤷‍♀️

AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace · 21/02/2023 21:28

Excepts from one of the current promotions that make it pretty clear that MN have made pushing the Sex board part of an advertising deal. Shame that rather than it being a forum where women talk as stated in the piece, it's overrun with sleazy men!

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2023 21:31

Fucking hell.

beastlyslumber · 21/02/2023 21:35

Well there you go.

AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace · 21/02/2023 21:37

Those are screenshots from the 'reigniting intimacy' promoted piece if anyone's wondering. So I suppose the Sex board stays in Active thanks to Ann Summers.

BruceAndNosh · 21/02/2023 21:40

@AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace has absolutely nailed it.
Why can't MNHQ be honest about this?

00100001 · 21/02/2023 21:44

Wait... What? It's about MONEY??? nooooooo...never...

They seem to generally let things die down and ignore them

Getir · 21/02/2023 21:49

So does the sleazy chat thread that's over run with married men looking for sexy chats with the ladies come under 'cheeky sexting during the day'

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2023 21:51

'open minded about sex' =/= 'open minded about sexual content all jumbled up with everything else on a forum that was previously SFW.' And more important than SFW, safe to view with children around and safe to view if you're a woman who has been abused by men.

What have you done MNHQ?

Getir · 21/02/2023 21:51

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2023 21:31

Fucking hell.

And also this.

Getir · 21/02/2023 22:04

The Sex topic that MNHQ were so against for so long is now a selling point. You couldn't make this shit up.

Sold us down the river for the dosh.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2023 22:11

I think that proves that Justine has never seen anything in the Sex Topic. She thinks it's just women talking frankly and openly about their sex lives.
No mention of all the men or the Sexchat thread. It's a cosy corner for women apparently.

beastlyslumber · 21/02/2023 22:14

I worry that this is the beginning of the end for MN. They clearly don't understand who their users are. They think mums with newborns are going to be interested in sex toys. They're inviting sleazy men to post sleazy sex chats. They're doing zero safeguarding. Advertising kids' toys next to threads about rimming. And making it impossible to opt out of any of this.

What a fucking shame. MN has been such an amazing resource for so many women. I hope @MNHQ come to their senses and sort this out, but it looks like even if they had the insight to understand the harm they're causing, it's too late to stop it. Deal's been done and we've been sold to fucking Ann Summers.

I think you might be right - they should read this thread about the "Trust Thermocline".

It starts out "One of the things I occasionally get paid to do by companies/execs is to tell them why everything seemed to SUDDENLY go wrong, and subs/readers dropped like a stone."

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2023 22:37

Ffs. A forum where women can talk openly about their sex lives will be one which has at least a little privacy and some vetting of posters. Not a very public pretty much all-comers (sorry) forum.
Go back to a longer period of membership (and ideally some posting history) before being allowed to post on the sex topic ... and make it only readable by signed up members too while you're at it please.

WombsofWimbledon · 21/02/2023 22:41

Having users having to actively opt out of viewing adult content, vs opt in, is not a good look for Mumsnet.

AllWorkYoPlait · 21/02/2023 22:46

What's annoying me more is that there's now an influx of goady fuckers and trolls on various innoccuos threads. It's turning me off (pardon the pun) this site completely.

I might defect to reddit.

kittensinthekitchen · 21/02/2023 22:47

I recall reading a fairly recent article where Justine was asked if she would ever consider going into politics. Maybe on the next election-timed webchat, as well as asking their favourite bedtime story, we'll be asking Liz Truss if she spits or swallows, and Rishi Sunak if he likes a cheeky finger or two up the arse.

AllWorkYoPlait · 21/02/2023 22:50

LilyMumsnet · 20/02/2023 17:41

Hi all

We don't yet have any updates on this and would ask in the meantime that you hide the topic. We're taking all feedback on board.

@LilyMumsnet I'd also like to hide all your spammy ads. Couldn't be less interested in a fucking MN vibrator or spicing up my sex life.

Yes, particularly as it sounds as if on at least one thread MN have essentially set up a free alternative to a knocking shop.

AutumnLeavesFallingIntoPlace · 21/02/2023 23:05

Comparing the promotion screenshots to the objections MNHQ made initially to having a sex board (because of who it would attract) and the safeguards they had (hidden from Active, three month registration required) make it very clear that it's Ann Summers' values dictating, not MN's and it's not landed very well among all users, to say the least. But how can they backtrack now?
