It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

You are an adult man who has come to MN for the sex threads.

Nobody cares about your personal ability to separate thoughts of peppa pig and rimming in your own mind.

I'm an adult male parent that has been reading and posting all over MN for over 7 years and has no interest at all in getting any sort of sexual gratification from the sex board.
Ive only been reading it recently because of all the fuss that's been kicked up.

I am very happy MN is strongly female led.

I object to you stating my opinion isn't valid

I think we need a bit of this:

Hiding the section doesn't fix the problem @MNHQ, which is that if this is a permanent alteration, it marks a shift at Mumsnet who are now apparently openly welcoming and advertising at horny men. It changes the dynamic of what is a rare female-led community.

Exactly this.

Lots of the sex people's posts give the impression that they think they're on a site like reddit where if you want to see something you can just start a sub and opt in or out and everything is fair game.

Mumsnet is not reddit. We have always had a strong ethos here of supporting women, supporting parents, supporting mothers, safeguarding children. That's what this site has always been for.

Men have always posted here but have always been a small minority and have always got short shrift if they get in the way of the above ethos.

Recent decisions by MNHQ do mark a major shift.

Those who have recently rocked up for the sexytalk on a parenting site without even the minimum safeguard of age verification may understandably have been unaware of this. Please can we not attract any more of them?

Even Reddit marks the sex chat as NSFW so you have opt in if you want to see it.

AnneKipankitoo · 20/02/2023 20:33

So do you object to the sex chat thread or the whole sex topic?

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 20:35

Surplus2requirements · 18/02/2023 22:01

When it appeared in Site Stuff when I was looking to see if it was worth installing the app

Apologies @Surplus2requirements if I misunderstood the above post.

Either way, this is still not about you.

I'm not interested in making life easier on this site for wankymen or men white knighting for pick me girls. Im extremely disappointed and may not stay around if this is MNHQ's new ethos.

You have the whole rest of the internet for this shite. Why here?

I don't care about there being a Sex Topic, if it's hidden (and stays that way) and threads aren't appearing in my Active list then I'll never see any of it.

I agree with PPs that the Sex Chat thread goes against the ethos I thought MN promoted, so either they don't understand that it's not just people chatting about sex on a thread or something has shifted.
If it's the latter maybe they could explain what's changed.

Sorry but I'd hate to mansplain it to you 😊

Do you run mumsnet?

Do you think that that female led means any male opinion can be instantly shut down and silenced by any woman because he's a man?

I've been respectful throughout, acknowledged concerns as being valid even if I don't think they are present. Started a thread to try and find out how valid those concerns are.
Repeatedly said I don't assume I'm right, try to listen and engage with opposing opinions and assess my own.

Our opinions differ and I don't have a problem with that but I'm not sure why you do.

I wouldn't dream of trying to shut you down.

isthewashingdryyet · 20/02/2023 20:45

I have hidden the topic in my settings but it is still showing up.

Anyone else having this problem?

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2023 20:46

Then does exactly that.

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 20:48

Oh and to address the 'fucking days' I've been ill off work so I've been able to follow conversations in detail but I'm on the mend so you won't have to put up with my manly man opinion for long

RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/02/2023 20:48

Just 'repeating' this.

I re hid it on my laptop and it seems to be staying that way.

Getir · 20/02/2023 20:27

Exactly. I can't even read reddit subs about vaping without age verifying.

Mumsnet right now looks like a massive safeguarding loophole. It presents itself as a safe parenting site, so it has no safeguards, but is suddenly full of adult content that you have to actively opt out of.

Frankly, if this continues, they should be on the wrong side of the online safety bill and I don't say that lightly. FWR posters have been amongst the strongest advocates for freedom of speech on this site. We also have a strong understanding of safeguarding and the importance of boundaries.

At the very least you need a prominent disclaimer so parents know this is not a safe site to access while children are around.

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 21:04

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2023 20:54

I asked what?

Sorry your quite right, I'm rubbish at checking usernames.

I was answering @Getir 's direct question

AnneKipankitoo · 20/02/2023 21:09

i am on another forum where you can’t use swear words as it is under 13 age limit

AnneKipankitoo · 20/02/2023 21:12

I think everyone would prefer it to return to “as it was “ but it probably won’t.

Hide the sex topic from active, get rid of the hookup thread, reinstate the 90 day waiting period for new posters.
