Too much ‘promoted by MN’

TrinnySmith · 07/02/2023 14:03

I feel like I’m being constantly lectured by a snotty, superior (ex)friend.
All this bollox promoted by MN - haven’t the MN team realised that most threads gradually drop off the bottom of the screen -usually never to be seen again whereas their witty and catchy🙄 promotions go on and on and on and on - I try my best to ignore but it’s not easy.
I need to spend less time on mn - this is annoying me and will encourage me to do something more useful so it’s not all bad.

Hi OP

Thanks for your feedback- we're always glad to receive it and we will have a chat about our promotions.

AvengingGerbil · 08/02/2023 17:19

Hear, hear! Couldn't agree more.

Skyliner1 · 08/02/2023 17:20

Yes, it's so annoying. They stay for far too long as well.

Jafffffacakes · 08/02/2023 17:21

Yes I agree. I completely swerve them once I see the promoted by tagline. So not v effective then

Fairysilver · 08/02/2023 17:23

Hear hear! Annoying and off putting.
I guess you have to make a profit but iI never knowingly look at an advert.

SpringyChicken · 08/02/2023 17:25

Yes same here

Kangarude · 08/02/2023 17:26

Yes, especially 'Do you need a new toy for the bedroom ' Hmm

ThePear · 08/02/2023 17:35

They are irritating to scroll past to get them out of the way. Especially the vomitous combo of masturbatory aids + pissing yourself sneezing.

Chewbecca · 08/02/2023 17:38

Definitely agree, they stand out as out of place from the topic they’re in, especially the ‘do you need a new sex toy’ one.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 08/02/2023 17:39

Couldn't agree more

EasilyDirected · 08/02/2023 17:45

Yes, please sort this, there are far too many and they stay up for far too long. I didn't have any questions about pensions last week and I don't have any questions about pensions this week. Even if one did interest me I refuse to click them on principle now.

Mooloopoo · 08/02/2023 17:47

Yes, far too many. Sick of seeing the ‘so you need a new bedroom toy?’!

tribpot · 08/02/2023 17:49

Agreed, too many and they are too monotonous.

MobyJeff · 08/02/2023 18:00

I am so irritated by them I deliberately wouldn’t click on one even if it exactly matched something I was passionately interested in.

SoulCaptain · 08/02/2023 18:15

Couldn't agree more! HATE THESE, especially the 'toys in the bedroom' one

butterfliedtwo · 08/02/2023 21:54

They're multiplying for sure. Very annoying. I wish I could hide them. I don't need new sex toys or advice on pension etc. Just make them possible to hide if you add so many.

butterfliedtwo · 08/02/2023 21:57

I count 9 in active right now. Just irritating.

DarkNurseries · 08/02/2023 22:24

Yes, they seem to be breeding like rabbits, and it’s getting tiresome. No, I don’t have questions about gut health, and I don’t want some special mum vibrator.

2Bornot · 08/02/2023 22:56

YANBU.

Mumsnet is a fantastic site and I don’t begrudge its owners the advertising money they make from it, or the revenue they make compiling user comments into books to sell, or even any money paid to the journalists who mysteriously write articles about popular threads almost immediately (what’s more likely, journalists spending all day on Mumsnet, or a Mumsnet employee pitching stories to journalists in return for money?). I don’t begrudge that.

But, the entire value of the site to its users is user-created content. When Mumsnet makes that harder to find by sticking promoted and sponsored stories all over the top of my screen, that gets annoying and damages the relationship between Mumsnet and its users who are after all unpaid content-creators.

And so I drift away…

Right? The flavour of promotions lately is over-familiar, too personal, and obsessed with female biology. I don’t come on Mumsnet looking for sex toys or gut advice thanks.

Maybe they’re hired some men?

This! 🙄

If you reject the consent to cookies I've noticed they disappear.

This.

Vegansausagevole · 08/02/2023 23:14

Yes I agree it’s getting too intrusive , I can’t imagine it’s even having the desired effect for MN as there are just so many, being one of only two or three for only a limited amount of time gives each a good chance of being noticed and users clicking on it. Being 1 of many that sit there “forever” just puts users off and I for one just avoid them like the plague for fear of MN being inclined to have even more if they get a large no of clicks. Sometimes you really can have too much of a good thing.

Januaryisthelongestyear · 08/02/2023 23:16

Agreed. To all of the above.
