'what proportion of men ...' thread deleted. Why?

LangClegsInSpace · 30/12/2022 01:07

The full thread title was 'What proportion of men who identify as women do you think have had an operation to remove their male genitals?'

Your deletion message said, 'We have deleted this thread now as we have been receiving a number of reports about this thread and generally do not feel the thread is doing anyone any good at this point in time.'

I think this was an extremely informative thread for a lot of women. It's not clear what your 'feeling' is based on that the thread was 'not doing anyone any good'. Please could you explain?

I think all posters, including thosen I disagree with, would benefit from clear rules, not based on 'feel' or 'generally' or subjective evaluations on how good (for whom?) a thread is.

I didn't see it but I'd imagine any post asking about people's genitals would be taken down?

Itisbetter · 30/12/2022 01:20

I didn’t see this thread but I would have been interested to read it, both to find out the truth and what people thought. I’d be interested in how many transmen have surgery too and if there was a difference in what age that happened. Why is information and discussion so limited?

Itisbetter · 30/12/2022 01:20

People talk about genitalia on MN ALL THE TIME. We’re not children.

AmazonPrim · 30/12/2022 01:26

Some crazy sensitive MN'ers will have reported it. It's like they get some kind of pleasure and power over reporting a thread because they don't agree with it so feel that everyone else will also share their views. It happens all the time and I can't stand it. They either get offended or report as a troll post 🙄

Itisbetter · 30/12/2022 01:27

Surely offended people can just hide the thread?

Octopusmittens · 30/12/2022 01:28

It was an eye opening thread, a great shame it was deleted.

postcardpuffin · 30/12/2022 01:34

Would a thread about the politics of circumcision or FGM be deleted? Why then a factual thread about a major political issue of the day?

It’s just pure censorship and sexism — or what else would you call stopping women discussing issues that affect us directly, because of male feelings and “identities”?

But we can discuss bum sex at center parcs and have a sex topic ?

This forum now seems to censor free speech an awful lot these days . One whiff on controversy and deletion is swift .
Been here since 2007 and anything used to discussed- like we were grown ups or something.

Weepachu · 30/12/2022 01:46

I didn’t see the thread but agree it shouldn’t have been taken down.

I reckon fewer than 10% get their genitals removed.

LangClegsInSpace · 30/12/2022 01:48

Yes, and I remember MNHQ plugging penis beaker for all they could squeeze out of it.

The idea that this thread was deleted because it mentioned genitals is laughable.

HatThatWearsYou · 30/12/2022 21:32

Sigh. Can we have the thread back now then Mumsnet?

Moopi · 30/12/2022 21:36

It's because TRAs don't want you to know the truth.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 30/12/2022 21:40

I've reported the thread in the hope you get an answer.

Bananadramallamas · 30/12/2022 21:40

I'd have been interested to read that thread, too.

ImaniMumsnet · 30/12/2022 21:54

Evening all.
This thread was removed due to the number of reports received about the https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4707735-what-proportion-of-men-who-identify-as-women-do-you-think-have-had-an-operation-to-remove-their-male-genitals thread and also the fact that there were a number of posts breaking talkguidleines. We have now reinstated the thread and please ask that posts made are within our talkguidelines.

TightFistedWozerk · 30/12/2022 22:03

Thank you Imani. I note you are working late, much appreciated Flowers

Brefugee · 30/12/2022 22:05

that link doesn't work.

SirChenjins · 30/12/2022 22:07

Glad it's been reinstated - but the silencing on here of women who are asking very valid questions about men who have chosen to present as women is really concerning.

ImaniMumsnet · 30/12/2022 22:11

Hi @SirChenjins - thank you for getting back to us. This was and is not our intention. Before making thread deletions we do consider a range of factors and options as thread deletions are not our favourite thing especially for important conversations such as these. We are doing our best and appreciate the feedback you all give - hopefully you can understand our perspective also. Let's keep the dialogue flowing.

ImaniMumsnet · 30/12/2022 22:12

Here is the link to the thread everyone - hopefully this works better https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4707735-what-proportion-of-men-who-identify-as-women-do-you-think-have-had-an-operation-to-remove-their-male-genitals

SirChenjins · 30/12/2022 22:18

This is happening all too frequently though - MN seems to be very quick to shut down discussion under the broad 'breaks talk guidelines' umbrella without giving specific reasons as to why a whole thread, as opposed to individual posts have been deleted. I think it's important to remember that MN is overwhelmingly female dominated and the majority of women want single sex spaces protected - and we want a forum where we can raise concerns and share information (and discussing the % of men who have not had surgery is very valid).

LangClegsInSpace · 30/12/2022 22:58

Thank you for your response and for reinstating the thread Flowers
