Respond please.

@Hardertobreathe I think that MNHQ sent the email address and possibly other private details of @Simbaya to a potential troll who reported one of her posts, in contravention of the DPA/GDPR, and @Simbaya needs to know the details of that to try to protect herself.

Who has her data? Why did that person report her? What did they allege about her? Etc.

It's very worrying.

These are my exact concerns. Thank you.

They have not.

Justine posted earlier that they were going to do just that - how can you possibly know otherwise? Confused

I understand people being angry and shocked, but baying for blood isn't going to achieve much at this point.

Kittykat93 · 07/06/2022 19:32

This is awful. So quiet on headquarters front too !

They have not.

On the main thread Justine states that they would report themselves to the ICO today.

MagnoliaTaint · 07/06/2022 19:34

OP that's appalling - when was this?

Were your details breached?

Yesterday.

Not this time, as far as I know, but it has happened to me before, and it caused some very difficult consequences - so I do know how horrible it feels.

I just don't think making unsubstantiated claims and calling the founder a liar is going to help anyone.

Simbaya · 07/06/2022 19:42

How about we let MNHQ validate this thread?

I don't know who reported me or why they reported me. I do know that THREE people HAVE my email address.

And I'm not fucking happy.

OP posts:
Simbaya · 07/06/2022 19:43

If I was reported for an accidental swear word that's one thing. If I was reported for anything else? That is a concern to me.

OP posts:

I'm not even allowed to be told what I've done wrong. But three users now know my name and they are THREE users who did not like me to start with or they wouldn't have 'reported' me.

Prepare for some spam op.

Jesus christ this is so far past unacceptable it's unbelievable.

DolphinaPD · 07/06/2022 19:45

Why won't mnhq tell you what post was reported?

Readtheroom · 07/06/2022 19:47

Why do you care that someone has your email address and name, unless its very unique? There's a million Emma Watsons and no one can really do anything with this information

This was the response:

"We can't share the contents of reports - although we believe that they were not malicious. Your email address would have been visible to three other users in total."

@thistimewontyousaveme wow. You think the OP should just suck it up?

If it happened to me, I'd be fucked. My email is my name, and my name is unusual. If you had my email you'd be able to find out exactly what my job is and where I work. You could do what you wanted with that information. It doesn't bare thinking about.

User487216 · 07/06/2022 19:57

Can you look at your posts from when this happened and see if any have been deleted, might be difficult though if you posted on loads of threads.

Lonelycrab · 07/06/2022 19:57

/ flame suit on.

I think you’re over blowing this.

A data breach is when someone has your data. Your email address is not your data, it’s just your email address. I think to suggest another poster might use that in some way is a bit far fetched.

Many thousands know my email through work, any one of them could have their computer hacked. I do get some spam like we all do, but in itself another email address added to the bazillions of email addresses available to hackers matters not.

just my 2p

My name is also unique. There are two of us in the world.

"believe they were not malicious"... Only you know what was in your post, op, but what are the chances of three different posters being genuinely outraged enough to report you?
Very slim, I'd say. What an utter fuckup.

In the OP's defence mumsnet have not said they will report themselves to the ICO.

MNHQ said

Our DPO has been informed and on his advice we'll report it the ICO if appropriate

The DPO is mumsnet data protection officer. Mumsnet said they will report to the ICO if the DPO said it needs to be reported.

tribpot · 07/06/2022 20:00

Justine does not say on the other thread that Mumsnet have reported the breach to the ICO, she says Our DPO has been informed and on his advice we'll report it the ICO if appropriate. - key words being 'if appropriate', I think. Have they had the advice back from the DPO yet?
