Screen freezing whenever scrolling reaches an advert.

Anyone else having this problem?
On mobile.
I scroll down and once an advert is reached my phone stops responding. I can't scroll past the advert for several seconds. I thought it might be my phone playing silly buggers so I tried my other phone and the same thing is happening.

MNHQ probably knows that's the large advertising rectangle that is causing it.

Roystonv · 02/12/2021 03:30

Methinks it's done on purpose.

AnotherMansCause · 02/12/2021 20:13

Several ads are causing problems for me, a couple of which I've previously reported - Jet2 (absolutely ages ago!), a wine ad (3 times last week on a different thread), Space NK, & Vaillant. I've not managed to get screenshots of the last 2 yet.

This is doing my head in. I can scroll past the ad but then my screen jumps back up to it, and keeps doing that. The ads have become more and more annoying lately in general and are really putting me off using the site now

Seeline · 03/12/2021 09:18

Mine's just started doing this too - mobile site on Chrome, using Android phone. I don't know what the and is for as I can't scroll down enough to find out. Picture of a blokes head in profile if that helps....

Ifailed · 03/12/2021 09:18

I'm having the same problem, using Firefox version 94.0.2. It seems to happen the first time I view a thread, after that it's not a problem.

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 03/12/2021 09:28

@Roystonv

Methinks it's done on purpose.
I've seen this suggested a few times, which is interesting. Tbh, I'm now only using the site when I'm on my laptop with an ad block switched on.

I can't see myself upgrading to Premium while it's necessary to hand over my banking details, as MN is subject to so much attention from potential hackers, and the IT used by MN seems to be a bit string-and-cups. I already change my passwords and user names frequently. I've been here a long time and seen the lay of the land.

The upshot of this is that I'm writing a lot less 'content' which MN used to get from me for free, but that's probably given me much needed time in RL to do other things!

I know the site needs to make money, but this doesn't seem to be much of a way forward. I'd prefer a (secure) donation button ...

... and to stop being repeatedly asked for screenshots, device details and browser. I strongly suspect that these are irrelevant to the cause of the actual problem, which is at MN's end.

BitBroken · 03/12/2021 09:29

Same here. Its doing my head in!

I have to close the window everytime.

AnotherMansCause · 03/12/2021 10:08

Site is basically unusable for me now. Every thread freezes, every time I come to an advert or a new ad appears at the top. It must have happened about a hundred times already this morning. CBA with it any more.

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 10:11

I've been having this problem - I first noticed about a week ago I think.
I'm accessing one a laptop, using Firefox version 94.0.2 (64-bit).

I think I've noticed it most with ads for Nivea, but there could have been others.

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/12/2021 12:09

This ad today. Have been others, seems to be the ones with video inside them?
Android, chrome, mobile site.

Yes that ad froze my whole iPad.
BitBroken · 03/12/2021 13:23

I definitely think it so people pay to upgrade to adless content Hmm

Babymamamama · 03/12/2021 13:35

I think solutions have been posted on other threads about how to resolve this by deleting all cookies in the browser settings and then blocking the ads in the Mumsnet profile settings. That worked for me. But I don’t think Mumsnet would really want to advise everyone to do that as it might mess up their revenue model? Is this a stealth way of forcing upgrades to the paid access version? Or am I too cynical?

PineappleWilson · 03/12/2021 13:40

I'm getting it on a PC, Firefox, with the Nivea advent bundle advert. Close the advert and you can scroll on past.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 03/12/2021 15:44

I'm getting it on Firefox on my laptop, it's doing my head in!

grapewine · 03/12/2021 20:12

This keeps happening on my Android phone with Chrome. I now don't use the site from my phone. I'm not paying for Premium with all the bugs on here.

Roominmyhouse · 03/12/2021 20:36

Keeps happening to me using safari on an iPhone.

Femwitch · 03/12/2021 22:56

Another freeze screenshot for you @MNHQ

ThinWomansBrain · 04/12/2021 00:37

happening again
the nivea ad again, alternating with something that features pots of soup - no idea what that is trying to advertise

YourVagesty · 04/12/2021 00:44

Yup. Chrome on a Sony Xperia

Cailleach · 05/12/2021 13:17

Opera, android phone. Laithwates ad...had to close the window totally several times. It stops it loading the entire page now past the middle advert section on the page as well.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/12/2021 13:19

YES, it's driving me bonkers!!!

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/12/2021 16:17

WoodenReindeer · 09/12/2021 10:31

Yup its so irritating. I often navvigate away from that thread or mumsnet as otherwise uou have yo wait a while for the ad to load before scrolling down.
