Random ads popping up and covering content

Any idea what's going on? I keep on getting different adverts popping up and covering the content in threads - practically every one I open gets one by about the 3rd or 4th post in. Having to click on the x in the corner of it to get rid of it every time.

It is starting to get really annoying now.

Desktop version, Chrome.

I’m getting it too on an iPad with safari. It’s on almost every page of a thread. On some ads I can find an x to close it, but it’s bloody annoying.

Same, and some don’t have a box to close it. Very annoying.

Same in Safari - they’re covering posts completely, and clicking the x to close doesn’t work because then there’s a same sized white rectangle with the little messages in - so still covering the post.

The ads on MN are becoming ever more intrusive, what with the videos, the banners at the top, these ads covering posts. Really crap.

Really puts me off coming on here. Can't we just do away with the ads once and for all?

On my mobile I keep getting adverts that are precisely screen length, making it impossible to scroll past.

And should an advert be just off screen at the bottom and I want to add post it navigate off using the buttons the advert seems to take priority and off I go, generating cash for something I am not interested in.

It's getting worse, almost unusable. I have to keep changing between the general unwieldiness of the app and this daftness of the mobile site.

Will it all go away after Christmas?

Adverts were always going to increase once the paid version was taken up.

We're so sorry that these ads are causing problems for you. Please rest assured that we're looking into this and we've been blocking the ones we can this morning.

We're really grateful for the screenshots some of you have posted. If you also grab the URL, and let us know the device and browser you're using and if it's the app, which version, we'll hopefully be able to pinpoint the issue.

Here is a video of it happening on an iPad using the Chrome browser. It's happening on multiple threads for me, frequently over the last few days. Hope this helps.

There’s no way to close the ad.
