Is trending now broken?

Using the mobile version of the website and trending now is just Christmas stuff.

Hi @Fallagain, the regular trending page should be as normal. Mobile does have a new "trending in christmas" box at the bottom of the page though - is that what you are referring to? The main trending looks like this (for me.)

I’ve attached a current photo my trending, they are all Christmas threads but when I looked at active they were no where near the top.

Mine's the same. I really couldn't work out why MN had suddenly become so obsessed with Christmas. I'm using an Apple laptop with Safari.

Platax and anyone else who is just seeing Christmas threads in the usual trending box, could you send us a screenshot of what's showing in trending for you so we can get this checked out?

All the threads in the box for me now are in the Christmas topic and when I click on refresh it only changes a couple of the threads

I posted about this problem on a thread a couple of days ago @StevenTechMumsnet and @CarolineMumsnet it's not new today. I can't easily send a screenshot as I'm on a laptop/firefox

Actually, what seems to happen is that the Trending box alternates between the Christmas threads and the normal trending ones. When I looked two minutes ago it was all Christmas topics, now they've suddenly all become non-christmassy.

Urghh. This is doing my head in now. Please make it go away.

Also, is it just me or has Trending started showing the same threads on every page when you click “refresh”? It used to be that each page of “refreshed” threads was different - now several threads are showing up the same on page 1, 2, 3, etc… (not sure I explained that very well!)

This is what I mean: page one and two of Trending are now showing the Nigel Slater thread, and the “Ungrown Up gifts” thread… it used to be completely different threads every time I pressed refresh.

(And yes, they’re ALL Christmas- related)

MN is definitely determined to piss off anyone who doesn't adore Christmas being rammed down your throat in mid November

Here a screenshot of the actual trending page and the trending box just now showing only the Christmas threads. I'm guessing that's not how it's supposed to work?

Hi folks, Sorry about all this. The Christmas overload in the right trending box was the result of an error (mine.). It should be back to normal now. We have a couple of ways "trending" gets built and I messed up one of them when making the other box (the red one.) Apologies for this. It should work as it did before now. If you spot that that's not the case let me know. We store page view counts from Google analytics locally in our DB and caches, and use them to build the trending lists. The Christmas / all threads lists weren't properly separated when I set up the red box, so there was a sort of race happening depending on in what order the scripts ran and whether you happened to load the page when one had run and not the other. The result could be that you'd see "all Christmas" threads in the regular box instead of "all threads." That would last for a few minutes at a time until the next run then the cycle would get repeated later. It should all be straightened out now. Apologies for all the confusion. I might fire myself.

Aw, tell Steven not to fire himself. That's a very honest admission of what seems an understandable mistake. Thanks for sorting it out.

Well, the Christmas threads disappeared. But now so has the entire Trending box! Or is it just me?

Also wondering why the trending box has disappeared! I was looking forward to my usual Friday night sit and refresh MN trending session

The trending box has gone and so has the trending tab on the active conversations page.

Trending has been replaced with FatFace Baby ads.

I've got no Trending or Christmas Trending.

Same for me on iPad.

Same here, iPad. No trending, just ads. Fat face, Bacteria protection, Tesco mobile.
