Ad videos playing in threads and can't be closed down

I've brought these to your attention before and you said you'd look into it but didn't get back to the thread.

They used to be in Property but are now in AIBU and others. They can't be closed so are eating my data.

And they're not connected to anything I'm interested in either.

Hi SuperbLyrebird,

We are really sorry this is happening and we will get this looked at.
Can you let us know which device and browser you are using and whether these ads are the only ones they're seeing or if there are others?

Thank you so much for your patience

Millie

Alternista · 10/09/2021 22:24

This is happening to me in Safari on an iPhone too. Same ad as the one on the right.

Gluestick80 · 10/09/2021 23:30

Same with me on safari iPhone.

SuperbLyrebird · 10/09/2021 23:37

Samsung Galaxy
Google (i think that's the browser!)

Tech are aware of them because they started months ago with "Aimee" popping up everywhere and there were lots of complaints. At least there was a box with a cross to shut her down!

Not just Apple devices. I've had it in Chrome in an Android device as well. Really irritating, as I have no interest in baby weaning or whatever they are, (I have to leave the thread to ignore them) and they're completely irrelevant to the thread/board.

bluegreygreen · 11/09/2021 16:25

Also bothered by these

I have settings to prevent autoplay of cideos so. Not sure why they're not working for these

Ones I have seen are

  • woman making some sort of microwave chocolate cake thing
  • woman and child looking at Paw Patrol toy
  • another woman and child - think this was another toy one but scrolled away quickly

I am on an iPad using Safari

Same
For
Me

Safari. iPhone. They’re really really annoying and killing my data.

NatriumChloride · 11/09/2021 17:03

Same for me! Super irritating!

AdaColeman · 12/09/2021 08:47

These are incredibly annoying, they are not about anything I’m interested in. But they are munching up my data!

I’m on a limited data plan, so it’s especially annoying!

I’m using Safari on iPad.

NanTheWiser · 12/09/2021 09:45

Me too, iPad and safari. Really annoying!

NoddingTulip · 12/09/2021 14:34

Same here. Really annoying and is playing havoc with my eyes.... I find it really hard to focus on the text when the ads are moving and it makes me feel nauseous.
Several different ads, cooking ones, woman with twins, paw patrol toy one, Blonde lady talking about something(dong know what as I have sound switched off, woman with little boy (traces around his fingers or something) amongst others.

Samsung tab and phone both on Crome.

Blastandbollocks · 12/09/2021 14:37

Pixel using Chrome. Standard Chartered advert, National Lottery (although that's more like an animated GIF) seen in the last few minutes.

SuperbLyrebird · 12/09/2021 18:55

This rubbish is earing my data!

*eating my data!

When are we going to get an EDIT button.

OP posts:
Alternista · 12/09/2021 21:27

Sort this out MN!

IamanUltracrepidarian · 15/09/2021 00:21

@MillieMumsnet
@MNHQ
This still hasn't been sorted. Just about every thread I'm on with no option to close the video. And as I have a teenager, I have no interest in the fripperies they're trying to flog!

soniamumsnet · 15/09/2021 08:40

Hi @IamanUltracrepidarian thanks for reporting this. Are you able to send a screenshot please? Also, please let us know the version of device and browser that you are using. Flowers

ChristmasCocktail · 15/09/2021 08:41

Same for me but it's in the MN app! Angry
If you can't control ads eating our data maybe it's time to switch from those type of ads?

soniamumsnet · 15/09/2021 09:27

Hi @ChristmasCocktail thanks for letting us know. We're taking a look into this now. Flowers

IamanUltracrepidarian · 15/09/2021 09:55

Thanks @soniamumsnet but it's no good looking into it and not doing anything about it.

I reported it on 9th August here

We get MN needs revenue but these videos are in every thread with no option to close. And they bear no relation to what I'm reading or anything I've looked at on other sites.

If only you had a tech dept ...

Chemenger · 15/09/2021 09:58

How lovely to see Aimee again after all this time -said nobody ever. You got rid of this nonsense once, why is it so difficult to just do what you did before?

IamanUltracrepidarian · 15/09/2021 10:09

That's why their disingenuous "could you post a screen shot" is winding me up. They know what the problem is.

bluegreygreen · 15/09/2021 10:56

And presumably they have the capacity to log in like an ordinary user and see for themselves anyway - it's hard to miss!

soniamumsnet · 15/09/2021 11:03

Hi @bluegreygreen thanks for the report - we're taking a look into this now. Flowers

illuyankas · 15/09/2021 11:30

I don't mind the ad on the background. But the video ad on the middle of the thread suddenly blasting is very annoying.
