Would it be feasible to have a <board name> : All view?

This suggestion arises out of the feminism boards rearrangement - some people like two boards but many want to see all feminist threads at once. I think this would better accommodate all users and reduce some of the discontent.

I believe it might be useful elsewhere, eg Education. Most parents are interested in the stages their DC are at, others may be interested in all of them.

Another possibility (though i'd guess would take quite a bit more to implement) would be if we could have a 'favourites' view so that we could see all threads in our favourite topics at once - mine would include both feminism boards, gardening and HE at the moment,

Starting a thread while in a non-specific view should be fine, just fill in the topic title as happens already if you start a new thread while in active or threads I'm on etc.

If this is technically feasible, I can't see any downside.

I should have said 'topic name' rather than board name perhaps...

Education: All
Feminism and Women's Rights : All

I think that's a really good idea that could go a long way towards alleviating some of the concerns for FWR regulars while still keeping the topics spilt for those who prefer it that way.

LizzieSiddal · 24/06/2021 10:39

Yes a fabulous idea, is this possible @MNHQ?

I spend most of my time on FWR and find it cumbersome to go between the two new sections.

ArabellaScott · 24/06/2021 10:48

Great idea, Errol, adding my voice to the ask! Finding it enormously clunky right now. Having the option of one board amalgamating would be really helpful.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/06/2021 10:54

Really good idea, don't know how feasible technically but it's a great suggestion.

MaloInAnAppleTree · 24/06/2021 10:56

I know what you mean. Would be v useful for education and the Special needs topics.

DialSquare · 24/06/2021 10:56

I would like this option too.

AssassinatedBeauty · 24/06/2021 11:00

I'd like this too, if it were technically possible.

purpleboy · 24/06/2021 11:19

Adding my support to this.

Caramellatteplease · 24/06/2021 11:27

I like the separation. But a button that flips between the two would be nice

Borka · 24/06/2021 11:42

This is a brilliant idea, I'd love it for FWR and SN.

CardinalLolzy · 24/06/2021 11:45

Agreed - there are sub-boards categorised on the 'Talk topics' page under one overarching heading, but that heading doesn't have its own page. Would be useful for all the sub-boards except the few obvious outliers.

MichaelMumsnet · 24/06/2021 11:45

Thanks for the suggestions. We're taking a look now - hopefully we can put a quick workaround in place to switch between topic areas in FWR.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/06/2021 11:46

I'd support this idea, or at least an easier way to get between the two feminism boards.

CardinalLolzy · 24/06/2021 11:46

And maybe a meta-board for each category, to contain the ubiquitous chat about 'what posters on this board are like and what I think of them'. Hmm

ifIwerenotanandroid · 24/06/2021 11:47

Sorry, cross-post

Mulsteadly · 24/06/2021 11:50

Just adding another vote of support- this is a great idea.

lespionniers · 24/06/2021 12:02

As long as this merged list doesn't lead straight back to the "what is a woman" dominance of feminism chat 🛹 topics.

I can see this happening.

Floisme · 24/06/2021 12:10

The way I envisage it working is that you only see both boards if you opt into a 'view all' function.
lespionniers · 24/06/2021 12:17

I know.

lespionniers · 24/06/2021 12:21

My point is that the people asking for the merged list are the posters who largely want all topics to be discussed on the explicit basis of a rejection of identity politics and will take all threads in a merged view there as a matter of course.

AssassinatedBeauty · 24/06/2021 12:21

It won't lead to that, as all you have to do, @lespionniers, is report any thread you see in Feminist Chat that is forbidden to be there and MNHQ will move it into Feminism: Sex & Gender debate for you. If you continue to access the Feminist Chat only, then you won't see that thread as soon as it has been moved. If any do actually get started in the wrong section, which I can't see this making any difference to.

Floisme · 24/06/2021 12:28

Sorry if I'm missing the point but, provided it's a viewing function only and not a posting function then I don't see what the issue is?

lespionniers · 24/06/2021 12:33

I am not talking about subject matter, which is the nature of the split, I'm talking about the identity issue being brought into topics in chat simply because the "see all" view is effectively turning it back into one board again. This is more or less a reversal of the intention of the split which was to encourage a wider participation from people put off by the dominance of anti identity posters on threads where it is peripheral.

Are you saying that being able to view both boards means people are less likely to post on the correct board? But we haven't had any clear guidance about what the correct board is, we're sort of just feeling it out and going on instinct? People who don't want to see what each OP has decided belongs on the S&G board can choose not to click on it and only click on the Feminism Chat board.
