Seeing a hidden section

FelicityBeedle · 21/06/2021 17:29

I’m seeing a section I definitely have hidden occasionally in active, just now there are two threads from it visible. Is it just me?

FelicityBeedle · 21/06/2021 18:15

Oh never mind, I see you’ve finally split the section. I’ve went and hidden the other one too as I don’t trust posters to use the right ones.

Hi OP

Glad this has sorted itself out. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do.

CardinalLolzy · 21/06/2021 18:45

I thought "everyone" wanted that topic split so they could happily use the one they comfortable with?
Lots of ppl, me included, suggested that the fundamentally intertwined content would be so hard to gauge which was the right board, that splitting it would be confusing and pointless, (and open to abuse from bad-faith disrupters)?

Gosh.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/06/2021 19:07

Ah, glad to know Mumsnet can respond to certain people but not answer the questions we've posed on the naming of the new split boards, I reported my own post ages to go to ask for elaboration but I guess it won't be forthcoming.

Quaggars · 21/06/2021 19:08

A lot of posters have the board hidden though, and not everyone posts in the feminism section.
The OP presumably falls into the having the board hidden category and isn't a poster on there, seeing as that's what they posted about.
You say "everyone" like everyone on MN is here for the feminism boards when it's clear some aren't.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/06/2021 19:11

I'm not hear for the doghouse or baby names topics, but funnily enough I manage to scroll on by without even hiding them tbh.

I wonder why some people struggle to do this 🤔 any ideas on that?

CardinalLolzy · 21/06/2021 19:14

quaggars I'm referring specifically to a MNHQ discussion thread that the OP is referencing with the "finally splitting" comment and the stated opinion of the people posting on it. If you're not familiar with it then obviously you won't know what I mean.

WarriorN · 21/06/2021 19:23

Yeah I wonder why too strawb.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 21/06/2021 19:26

It’s great to see MNHQ can respond so rapidly when they want to. When will you respond to the numerous very lengthy threads discussing how to respond to your proposal (midway through a long thread about a different subject) to do this? And the numerous and also becoming lengthy threads in response to it being implemented without any announcement? @LilyMumsnet

LilyMumsnet · 21/06/2021 20:01

Hi all

Sorry - it can take a bit longer to answer policy based questions.

I've just hopped on for the evening, and I can get to techy issues quite quickly - however, certain topics require more discussion amongst staff, which is why we get to the techy issues faster.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 21/06/2021 20:08

Ok so why did you (organisation, not you personally) enact a big change before that discussion had been concluded? Why wasn’t it announced? @LilyMumsnet
I’m sorry for targeting you, it’s very unfair, but this is the only answer from anyone at MNHQ I’m aware of since the idea was first floated in the middle of a thread about something different. And that question hasn’t been answered either so can you please acknowledge that question too please.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/06/2021 20:16

Why have they suddenly been unhidden from Active Threads? I get that a lot of sections have been changed (though most have had to see their fav sections reduced in size, this one seems to have grown) but why would those who have it hidden suddenly want to see it again? Unilateral decision for us?

FelicityBeedle · 21/06/2021 20:38

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind
I have had FWR hidden for a long time because I disagree so fundamentally with a lot of the content posted, and the opinions expressed negatively affects my friends and family. If I see the threads I feel obliged to post on them but I often don’t have the spoons for that

OP posts:
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/06/2021 20:54

Ah ok @FelicityBeedle. Never mind if women are negatively affected and want to express their opinions on that, eh?

Zeev · 21/06/2021 21:24

Do we have free speech on our new gender/sex naughty step?

Quaggars · 21/06/2021 21:37

Free speech? Do you mean to be able to talk without talk guidelines in place as I'd have thought they'd still stand whichever board they're on.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 21/06/2021 21:47

It's probably to do with the amount in "Active Convos". They'll only be one or two from The Litter Tray or Baby Names or whatever, but when a dozen of them are Feminism (the majority of which will be a discussion about trans issues at the moment) it can push other, more light-hearted threads off the board.

Some of us are here just to talk about cats 🤷🏼‍♀️.

ArabellaScott · 21/06/2021 21:57

You're in Feminism to talk about cats?

Quaggars · 21/06/2021 21:59

You're in Feminism to talk about cats?

Where did she say that lol
I read it as sometimes threads come up in active convo bar from the feminism boards as a few sometimes trend, not so much from the litter tray or wherever though.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 21/06/2021 22:02

Well I was going to suggest the new board that others were so desperate to have could be called LibFem 🐱 with a fluffy kitten emoji, @ArabellaScott

I'd quite like ours to be Reality Based Vipers 🐍

YesItsMeIDontCare · 21/06/2021 22:02

@ArabellaScott

You're in Feminism to talk about cats?
😂 No! I saw this while I was scrolling through Active, having just posted on the Cat Chat thread. By "here" I meant Mumsnet.

(Tbf all my female cats would have been bloody good for feminism though... feisty little buggers who took no shit from anyone)

ArabellaScott · 21/06/2021 22:05

I do think that a kittens/Vipers split would be easier to understand than the current set up, Strawberry. Totally baffled by it. Makes no sense at all.

Yes, are there many cat chats in Active, generally?! I mean, fill your boots, I love cats, but surely there's a long wait between trending cat-related conversations?

Nope, not many. I head to The Litter Tray board or just go to Threads I'm on. I guess that's kinda the point. If someone isn't interested in cats there's sometimes a thread or two to scroll past, if someone's not interested in getting involved in the gender debate it's a lot more. I just thought that might be why people preferred to hide the whole topic rather than just scroll past. I realise I may be completely wrong.

(Kittens/cats are vicious little bastards so not really the complete opposite to vipers 😂)

Loubiemoo · 21/06/2021 22:15

Yes. Same here OP.
