Seeing a hidden section

I’m seeing a section I definitely have hidden occasionally in active, just now there are two threads from it visible. Is it just me?
@PearPickingPorky
Plenty of women, Cis or otherwise get upset at what’s said on the feminism board because it’s often backwards and offensive
You're right, the sooner women and girls embrace patriachy, the sooner we all, as a society, can progress.

So if I understand this correctly, Mumsnet's attempt to pacify the non-feminists who have already hidden the Feminist board has resulted in two new feminism topics appearing in their feed again?! Brilliant stuff MN! Grin

@MaudTheInvincible

IMO FWR makes some feel uncomfortable with the choices and allowances they've made or are making, and challenges their comfortable blind spots. They're happier doing ostrich impressions.
Yeah this. It’s just so depressing so many people do not give a shiny poo. But more so that those people have been given the power to make this place a little more difficult for women who do care about the constant attacks on women.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

Why have they suddenly been unhidden from Active Threads? I get that a lot of sections have been changed (though most have had to see their fav sections reduced in size, this one seems to have grown) but why would those who have it hidden suddenly want to see it again? Unilateral decision for us?
@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat in what way has it grown?

Back in the day I used to skip over the Feminism section because I foolishly thought we were all sorted and had our rights, so it was just a few hardcore types discussing academic theory. Then one day I clicked on a thread about Maria McLachlan and discovered what was going on with sex vs gender. I was an ostrich right up to that day.

So from one perspective having a section with that title might actually have some benefit, because it’s pretty clear that’s what will be under discussion and more MNers might think ‘I’ve seen something about this in the news, will find out more.’ We know the issue is a feminist one and while I agree the lack of user input is frustrating, it may have some use the lobbyists didn’t envisage?

noraclavicle · 22/06/2021 08:04

…and just in case anyone is wondering who Maria Mclachan is, she was one of a group of women meeting to discuss things that affect women (self-ID more specifically), who were hunted down and violently attacked in London. One of the men who attacked her wasn’t traced, the other was charged. Maria was forced to refer to her attacker as female in court, despite said attacker being legally male. That was the wtf point at which I no longer worried about ‘seeing hidden sections.’

The Feminisms board have now been split into two boards.

One called Feminist Chat where you're not allowed to talk about anything that requires any feminist analysis of sex/gender, because men get upset.

And one called Sex And Gender where you are allowed to talk about sex and gender, but you're compelled to call things the opposite of what they are, or contort yourself into a linguistic arabesque to avoid being forced to lie, in case a man gets upset. Otherwise you get banned.

You see, lots of people who don't visit or use the Feminism boards asked for the Feminism boards to change so that the feminists wouldn't go there. The users of the board said they didn't want this change, but sadly the voices of the non-users was more important (as is so often the case with women, must be the frequency of our voices, no wonder the best women are male).

Perfectly put PPP! Flowers

Y'all know there are other sites apart from mumsnet right?. I don't understand why you would continue to use a site when you hate the set up so much? (Not to op)
