Site problems following DDOS attack - more information here

Hi all, just to update you on the current situation. As Justine posted here, we’ve been suffering a DDOS attack since approx 11.30am today and as a result, the site has been slow and went down briefly. The app is also out of action for now while the firewall is up.

Our firewalls are keeping the site secure but this does mean you’re getting a ‘checking your browser’ message every thirty minutes (you don’t have to do anything here apart from wait to get back on) and some of you may be asked to complete a captcha test to make sure you’re a human.

We’re sorry for the extra hassle right now, we’re working hard to resolve the situation and things should be back to normal soon. Thanks very much for your patience.

Thanks, when I came on about 5 mins ago it said something about "DDos cloudflare redirect" so I closed the browser because i wasn't sure if it was dodgy or not. Cheers.

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/02/2021 17:06

It just asked on the other thread.

Are we safe ? Do we need to change passwords or anything

Thanks for the update

Crockof · 20/02/2021 17:07

Agree, I was concerned with the cloud flare message especially as the Internet jury seemed divided as to if it was good or bad so appreciate you letting us know its OK

QueenOfLabradors · 20/02/2021 17:10

Thanks for the update!

UseOfWeapons · 20/02/2021 17:10

Thanks

midgedude · 20/02/2021 17:12

a normal DDOS attack just stops people using the service , not stealing user details or breaking in as such

Thanks Midge no idea what most stuff like this means so good to know!
middleager · 20/02/2021 17:18

Thanks.

There were issues yesterday too though, so just wondering what those were?

You're v welcome. Yes, your account is safe and you don't need to change your password. A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a server with a flood of Internet traffic. User accounts are not affected. The purpose of the firewalls is to stop this flood. Hope that makes sense!

SlopesOff · 20/02/2021 17:25

I reported a problem on Wednesday, and have had a problem ever since.

SlopesOff · 20/02/2021 17:26

Also had the browser checking since yesterday, I am thinking it was going on then, if not before.

catsrus · 20/02/2021 17:27

basically @MichelleScarn a DOS is when a cyber attacker keeps all the "lines" into the site busy, so that the users can't get in - denying them the service. A bit like keeping a phone line engaged so no one else can get through.

The MRAs don't like us uppity women talking to each other.....

mumwon · 20/02/2021 17:28

Right? This website gets attacked more often than all the other websites I use, put together.
skodadoda · 20/02/2021 17:36
