Ads cutting out phone audio

Is anyone else having this issue: the new ads that contain audio keep cutting out whatever audio is playing on your device?

I wish I was listening to music or a podcast but in reality the ads are cutting out the white noise I'm playing on spotify to help the baby go to sleep.

This is soooo annoying @mumsnetHQ can you get rid of these please? Extra points if you remove the ones of Gemma bloody Collins.

This is so annoying, also cuts out here whilst playing plinky plonky lullabies trying to get toddler to sleep!

Hi OP

Can you let us know what device and browser you're using, and can we have screenshots of the ad(s) causing issues? Flowers

EspressoPatronum · 11/11/2020 20:05

Same happening on chrome on my Google pixel 3

Harmarsuperstar · 11/11/2020 20:06

Yes this happens to me too with certain ads. Samsung galaxy s20 om chrome

MaizeBlouse · 11/11/2020 20:07

I'm using a Samsung and the inbuilt Internet app. Don't have screenshots but its basically any ad that runs with audio, like the Gemma Collins one.
The audio doesn't play (as my phone is on silent) but it cuts out the audionooayibg through my Spotify, which 99.8% of the time is "baby white noise sleepy sounds".
Is there a way to stop the ad audio overriding my phones audio?
Thanks for responding to my post. I'll try and get a screenshot if I can

Definitely still happening repeatedly

psychomath · 12/11/2020 14:26

Having the same issue on a Samsung J3 using Samsung Internet - can't screenshot the ad as it's not loading but it's a giffgaff one.

soniamumsnet · 12/11/2020 15:56

Thanks for the further reports. The fix does take time to filter through, so please give us a shout if it's still causing problems later on. Thanks for your patience. Flowers

MaizeBlouse · 12/11/2020 21:02

Thanks for sorting it, @soniamumsnet, pretty sure this is fixed now.

Hi MaizeBlouse, thanks for keeping us updated - any more issues?

WotNoLoobrush · 15/11/2020 19:54

Glad I found this thread and it's not just me. Yes, still happening and yes, it's bloody annoying. Please resolve MNHQ! Chrome on pixel 3 here (same as a PP)

WotNoLoobrush · 15/11/2020 19:56

Personally, I accept ads to a point, but when it blocks/overrides what you're reading or listening to, I draw the line.

CommunistLegoBloc · 16/11/2020 15:10

This is driving me mad. It's happening on every single thread I go on (even this one!) and means if I'm bluetoothing music to a speaker, it cuts out constantly. I basically can't use MN (on Chrome, android phone) when I'm also listening to something.

AmarillobyMorning · 16/11/2020 17:47

This happens on pretty much every thread.

Harmarsuperstar · 17/11/2020 19:41

Still happening...

MaizeBlouse · 17/11/2020 19:47

Yes it is still happening for me too @mumsnetHQ

The autoplaying of ads is getting ridiculous. It uses data when not on wifi and is really intrusive. I do not currently use an as blocker as I accept ads as the price of using a free website but having autoplaying videos you can't choose to opt out of and that use up data and impact other things that you are doing (even with them muted) means that I will be using one from now on.
