I know I've been away for a bit, but where did this come from in my absence??

tbh, I do find it a bit distasteful to have it there.

not wishing to be controversial at all. But v. curious.

OP posts:

sorry not sure what the original 'problem' was, as far as I can see Pan refused to defend or elaborate his pov

And tonight's crusade is against Lazy Mindedness in all forms

think the new topic is a good idea btw

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 22:34

ll, yes, it does sound brutal - there is such a long history of soldiers being killed due to stupidity of commanders, stupid unnecessary wars etc - it doesnt make it better, to wrap it up nicely. Which makes it all the more baffling, that you support this system.

jinxed · 22/06/2007 22:34

I think the new topic is great, I just dont like the title of it but thats just me lol

jinxed · 22/06/2007 22:35

When a terrorist comes into this country and blows up you or a member of your family, you will be ok with that? You wont sit there and ask why nothing was done to protect you?

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 22:37

why effie, when the old arguments are as true as ever?

desiderata, is that a name aimed at me? if you are starting insulting and name calling, then I feel free to give my opinion that you appear to have little capacity for logical thought.

jinxed · 22/06/2007 22:37

Next time the Fire Brigade go on strike, don't bother calling for help if your house catches fire, because you wouldn't want any child killing soldiers to help you out, now would you.

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 22:38

well if you lot werent in their country blowing their families up, they might not be in our country trying to blow us up....

two wrongs really do not make a right, you know.

jinxed · 22/06/2007 22:38

Think back to who started it.

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 22:40

they would be insulted if you implied that they were not supporting their lo's in the armed forces though

In your dark, sad and cynical world NN perhaps doctors are paid to make the wrong diagnosis, train drivers are paid to crash their trains, chefs are paid to make people ill with bad food, policemen are paid to victimise black people? The list is endless and is of course nonsense. Terrible things happen NN, especially in war. But people set out with the best of intentions, in our case to protect people like you. Perhaps you should think carefully about that, about the society you live in, the democracy that you are part of and the people who are trying to keep you safe.

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 23:26

those comparisons are completely invalid - a train driver reasonably expects never to crash a train. A soldier does not join up in the expectation of never killing anyone else.

McDreamy · 22/06/2007 23:28

They don't go out wanting to kill the families that unfortunately get involved in war, that is never the intention.

Ulysees · 22/06/2007 23:28

I know I'm not a forces sweetheart but my bf is in Iraq working for the US army.
Do you think this thread should go on, it seems in poor taste IMO?

Skribble · 22/06/2007 23:33

Perhaps consider what would have happened in Europe if it hadn't been for "Forces" over the years. Very narrow little veiws being aired here.

Can I take the chance to thank the forces personnel that do all kinds of jobs and put their own lives at risk for others carrying out all manner of duties that most people could never manage in very difficult circumstances. And I also appreciate how difficult it must be for their partners and families back home.

While I may not agree with all the polices and directions taken I can at least see that it is not the men and woman on the ground that get to pick and choose the battles or duties they enter into or become involved in. They have many humanitarian missions too where they are not sent out too kill but quite the opposite.

Nuf said, over and out to you.

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 23:37

yes, it was pretty "unfortunate" when Baghdad was bombed, wasnt it.

Skribble · 22/06/2007 23:38

Out to you!

Nightynight · 22/06/2007 23:43

well, I have seen a lot of name calling and insults, but little logic so far. maybe because there is little to show. am off to bed now.
