Mumsnet kills my music

cakeandteajustforme · 23/11/2018 08:30

In the middle of a commute... listening to spotify... and I can't turn on mumsnet because every bloody time it turns my music off when ads come up with sound. (Note I don't actually hear the sound... it just turns off my music).

Can you make no noise ads please on the app?

Hi there OP,

We're really sorry to hear about this. Are you using the app, or mobile site? It seems like it's new, but can we check - is this a new issue or has this been happening for a while?

DaffoDeffo · 23/11/2018 11:15

does that to me too

makingtime · 24/11/2018 22:37

Happening to me too - on the app. So annotating!

makingtime · 24/11/2018 22:37

Or annoying even... Blush

dingdang · 25/11/2018 01:25

This happens to me too when listening to podcasts? Only started last week

KimMumsnet · 25/11/2018 20:11

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about this - most frustrating.
If you've noticed, could you let us know which ads are coming up with the sound, please?
We're on the case...
Thanks
Kim

Any update on this please?

DaffoDeffo · 27/11/2018 08:46

what phones do you all use? I've got an iphone and I noticed another app cut off my music today so I'm wondering if that's linked

Puffincino · 27/11/2018 09:02

It's an iPhone. Mumsnet app has been stopping sounds on three different sources (downcast; iPlayer; music). Haven't noticed this happening when I use any other site or app. Just mumsnet

Innocentconglomeration · 27/11/2018 09:04

Me too. iPhone. I don’t hear the ad but it stops the music.

TimMumsnet · 27/11/2018 11:04

Hi guys, thanks for raising this. I think it's an issue that iOS 12 may have triggered, but we're looking into it.

Is there a particular event in the app that causes it to pause (selecting images, posting to a thread etc) or does it always pause as soon as you open the app?

AnyaMumsnet · 27/11/2018 11:04

Hi there everyone,

We're really sorry about this - we haven't found out what's causing it yet, but we'll keep you updated.

BishopBrennansArse · 27/11/2018 11:08

Still killing my Apple Music when I try to mn as the passenger in the car

BishopBrennansArse · 27/11/2018 11:08

For me I just have to open the app, it's not ad triggered

empmalswa · 27/11/2018 11:10

I use the app on iPhone X and lost my ability to listen to music when I open Mumsnet last week.

DaffoDeffo · 28/11/2018 07:11

It also happens when I try and get a boarding pass on ba etc so something must have changed. But not all apps do it

explodingkitten · 28/11/2018 07:48

Iphone here. The app kills my music when I open it.

TuckMyWin · 29/11/2018 10:37

And me- as soon as you open the app. iPhone, using Apple Music.

cakeandteajustforme · 04/12/2018 16:43

I just opened mumsnet app and it was fine until I opened a thread that contained (way down the page) the Barts ad (some central London apartments).

Any update?

OP posts:
TimMumsnet · 12/12/2018 10:49

Hi guys, thanks for the detail you've given. I was able to reproduce the ad pausing music issue when I found the Barts ad. I've now blocked the Barts ad and I haven't been able to reproduce the issue again.

It's not that satisfying, because I'd rather fix the issue at the root, but I've never seen this happen before, and haven't found a way to fix it properly yet.

If you see the issue again

  • Let us know the ad name/url/screenshot
  • Try quitting the app and reopening

Let me know if that's fixed it for you or not. Thanks for your patience!

makingtime · 18/12/2018 22:42

Still happening for me. It happens as soon as I open the app, doesn't seem to be related to an ads in particular. Still really annoying!

makingtime · 18/12/2018 22:43

(And closing and reopening app doesn't make any difference)

outnumbered77 · 20/12/2018 09:16

This is happening to me too. Doesn't appear to be ad related, just opening the app stops my music playing.

dogdogdog · 20/12/2018 09:29

Oh this happened to me on Tuesday.

Listening to Spotify then opened the app and music stopped

DaffoDeffo · 20/12/2018 09:57

Yes must be a new ad as it is happening again :)
