WHY is it 100 times harder to write on mn than it ever has been??

makingmiracles · 06/11/2018 23:39

So have had this for a few months, basically when writing in the msg box the words are delayed in showing up whilst im typing, then when they do appear, autocorrect has completely changed some words meaning I haven’t to edit each post as they tend not to make sense, it also adds in random capital letters....

I use Safari on iPad, and use the website not the app. It never used to be like this and it’s putting me off mn as each post is such a slog.

It doesn’t happen on any other website so can only conclude it so an Mn issue

Hi there OP,

Sorry to hear about this, and sorry you're having problems. Is it by any chance similar to problems being discussed in this thread?

I am having this problem typing posts. The letters appear sometimes after I've typed a whole sentence! Then it's not reflected accurately. Using capitals is a nightmare. Tyring to delete a letter will delete anything up to 15 more full words being deleted - I have been being very careful of what I type as I know correcting it is go8ng to be almost impossible, and I'll lose the will to live!

There are some things in common on that thread ^^, but the site works for me, sometimes links take so long to respond that I will have closed the tab with no perception of anything happening at all.

It's been worse today by a mile, probably due to the software update, but has been happening to some extent for a while.

They 'phantom typing' problem has been going on for a few months on and off now I come to think of it.

iPad, Safari, desktop site.

Sallystyle · 07/11/2018 23:37

Same here. It is driving me up the wall.

Macbook, Safari.

I am having all the problems Jux is having.

Folf · 08/11/2018 07:59

I've signed up previously and deregged.

Desktop formatting right now is horrendous with pressing return and extra lines being added in, new paragraphs at random...etc.

AnyaMumsnet · 08/11/2018 10:44

Hi there everyone,

We're looking into this now.

In the meantime, could you all please let us know what device you're using, and whether you're using the mobile site, desktop site or app?

At the moment it seems like you're all using Safari but it'd be helpful to know if anyone using another browser, or the app.

Folf · 08/11/2018 15:51

I Normally use desktop and Microsoft edge.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/11/2018 15:57

SAme here. iPad, safari latest version.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/11/2018 15:57

GAHhhhhhhh

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 08/11/2018 15:57

Mobile site

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/11/2018 16:00

Me too. ipad safari desktop.

As I posted on the other thread. This is something that has been happening intermittently for a couple of years now.

Jux · 09/11/2018 23:25

I posted this on thenother thread today - I was in such despair I failed to differentiate which thread was which Wink

Really really awful today.

I have been silently screaming with frustration every time I have looked at MN.

For Instance:
I wanted to discuss the banned Iceland ad, but by the time I had watched the phantom typer mangling my text, tried to correct it, watched it mangling even further, and then THEN adding insult to injury by instead of deleting the whole thing and letting me start again, having my finger on the delete key apparently meant that I wanted to go to a whole different site.

Of course every other link I have tried to follow on MN today has taken up to half a dozen taps before there's been any sort of response (mainly the link acquires an underline but actuallydoes nothing more).

Shriek · 09/11/2018 23:33

Ibpostsd on this recently in IT. Only using an android phone.

Sometimes when I delete backwards, it will actually add words in! And then delete words I'm not deleting. I get it worse on another forum I lost on though.
I feel sure I have checked through my post and then I look back and see a whole word has changed and sometimes it mortifying, because of the way it complete ly changes the sense.
Someone was called gangbanger the other day, causing offe sive and upset. I posted and nearly hit lost before spotting one of my words had been swapped to banger.

See ^ I didn't write offensive I wrote offense.

Llareggub · 09/11/2018 23:34

Yes! I thought it was just me! I'm posting on an android phone on chrome.

Actually it seems OK right now, mainly because I am relying on autofill.

Shriek · 09/11/2018 23:35

*post

My keyboard changes its speed of reaction and sensitivity. I have to start tapping harder.

Shriek · 09/11/2018 23:37

....and yes, I now have to routinely tap more than once or I don't get a response. Sometimes multiple times, but routinely twice, to post, or select I'm on etc

Shriek · 09/11/2018 23:55

Here's the link to my thread about this issue:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/geeky_stuff/3404688-Typos-just-the-norm-now-Android-user
I've also notice how first time ofnposting a link the link not active. I repeat exactly the same, and it is then active. I have also noticed this on others, where links have had to be repeat posted as the first one isn't active

Shriek · 09/11/2018 23:56

Mine would be mobile site, through chrome

NoSuchThingAsAlpha · 09/11/2018 23:58

I used to have real problems, but changed from Android's own keyboard to SwiftKey and it works perfectly now.

Graphista · 10/11/2018 00:48

I started a thread a month ago about problems using mobile site. Have been almost completely unable to use it since.

So been using app (which I hate!) instead.

Now I'm getting problems on app too! Freezing, crashing, problems deleting text.

I'm on safari on iPhone. What's really annoying is after first few days no response from mnhq.

Shriek · 10/11/2018 00:55

See my thread, nada

Sallystyle · 10/11/2018 23:59

Really bad tonight. Interestingly, when it happens my MacBook tells me that the page (MN) is using significant energy.

Shriek · 11/11/2018 00:07

!!!!yes, same!!!

makingmiracles · 11/11/2018 08:25

PLEase try and rectify it @MNHQ it’s increasingly frustrating, I’ve been on mn 14+ yrs and I’m starting to seriously lose the will with it

It seems from responses I’m clearly not the only one experiencing it

I’m using desktop site, safari on iPad

Awful today too.

Does anyone else find that it's not half so bad when posting on this thread? How on earth can that be? But it really isn't as bad on this thread (it is still not normal though).
